I had another migraine aura

I am still in full panic mode. My last (and first) migraine aura happened in October 2018. I have had wonky vision and menstrual migraines since then, but no auras. Tonight, I was watching Taskmasters on my iPad and the faces seemed a bit off. I instantly went into panic mode and within a few minutes an aura started. It was zigzag and colorful and formed a large C shape in my left eye. I tried to calm myself, but admittedly it didn't work. I cried as my bp skyrocketed and stood outside in 40 degree weather trying to take deep breaths in the dark. I am so upset. I thought what happened to me a little over a year ago was a one-off thing. Or, at least I had hoped it was. It took me months to try to overcome my constant fear of an aura. I went back to work amd was being independent again. Now, I feel like I am at square one again. I just want to sob. I feel defeated, afraid, and alone.

Hello staci
I'm sorry that you had another one. It does knock your confidence a bit when you've had a gap and I know that they can be really frightening. I've had quite a few, but caused by a surge of progesterone when on hrt..... I've recently come off it. Have you been back to see your doctor? Keep your chin up, you're so strong Staci just try not yo let it set you back. Maybe make a list of how far you've come and what you've achieved...... Sometimes I don't recognise how far I've come until I take the time to write it down. Stay strong love xx

Thanks Sassy. I really was feeling confident about possibly never having one again. I wish I didn't find the terrifying. It is instant and utter panic. I haven't been to the doctor because I had a gap in work. The new job make you wait 90 days before you can use your health insurance. I am not on any medications. Originally, I thought mine was due to excess estrogen. I haven't read the literature about excess progesterone. I appreciate the pep talk. I am just really devastated it happened again because it caused such a disturbance the first time. I lost my job and started having daily panic attacks. I can't afford to go through that again.

Thats a huge amount of pressure Staci, I can't imagine. I took time off from work when this all started, I just couldn't function but because I'm in the UK I didn't have the difficulties with doctors and insurance etc. I was the same with the aura, I was terrified during it and then so anxious that it would come again. I don't know what it is about it, whether the vision, lights etc but its a bit traumatic. I started wondering whether it was to do with smell too, I was on a cruise docked at bergen in Norway and was sniffing perfumes when in 2 seconds I couldn't see. Thought my husband was going to throw me off the Dock, but he did take me back to the ship! For me it passes in about an hour with dark glasses and deep breathing but for the rest of the trip I was so anxious. Hang in there xx

I've been without health insurance since August. The US does not care about the health of its (poor) citizens. I am sensitive to smells as well. I have only had migraines related to my period. Yesterday, was the first time I had a migraine without being on my period. Although, technically I only had the aura and no pain. I am glad you have an understanding husband. xo

staci the aura with me is usually the calm before the storm hits I pretty much get the migraine with pain about 72 hours after the aura so keep an eye out for that.. Also think you said you were ovulating hormone fluctuate big time during ovulation so maybe you are becoming more sensitive to ovulation now and not just your actual period.. Buy the blue blocker computer glasses at the pharmacy they ate clear but protect you from a migraine being triggered while watching movies or browsing the internet.. They are around 10 bucks

Oh, Gypsy. I am so tired of being afraid all the time. I didn't get a migraine last time I had the aura either. I do notice my eyes are very sensitive after an aura though. I seem to be light sensitive and have more after images. I will look into the blue blocker glasses. I know the neuro-ophthalmologist recommended FL-14 glasses, but I never got them. The Clue app I use tracks your ovulation and yesterday was the day. I have been very lightly spotting between periods lately. So, maybe something is off with the hormones.

Hello Staci
Remember me? We have spoken before about auras! Sorry to hear that you had another one! Im surr the light from the ipad triggered it as my phone used to trigger mine, especially if in a dark room. Just watching the telly has set mine off before. I still get them, i mark them on the calendar and i last had one in October. Try not to stress over it, easier said than done when peri/meno makes us anxious anyway xx

Hi pinkcatfairy!
I just replied to you in another poster's comments! My eyes have been so dry. No doubt it has a bit to do with the cold weather. I also got a bit too confident as I had not had an incident in some time. I was stressing me eyes and being a tad more liberally in my eating and lack of sun hat wearing. I should have known it was too good to be true. I am still having a regular cycle. Hopefully, it will calm down soon. I know you are post menopausal, but are still getting them. Maybe this is just my life now. It's sad. xo
