I had a tube to remove the blood. It was put in after I was put to sleep the same for the catheter. They removed both the next morning but the removal of the tube was painful for a couple of mins. You soon forget that you had it.I was straight out of bed afterwards having a walk. Be warned that once you have the catheter removed and they want you to keep drinking be prepared to be able to walk to the toilet.I found myself sitting in the chair rather than laying in bed as it was easier to get up from the chair than out of bed. You need to practise rolling out of bed as you can't sit up very easily. Because I found that I used to get up during the night several times in hospital because I couldn't sleep I found that I kept getting up as well when I got home aswell. I found it helped to give me a stretch every 2 or 3 hrs.I normally sleep on my side but I couldn't do this for a few weeks.I normally twist and turn a lot aswell but I couldn't even do that. You don't realise how much you use your stomach muscles.I kept thinking that I would cause my wound to open up with the pressure. After the op it is a good chance to relax  and be spoilt so enjoy it.

Hi, hope all goes well today!!! I'm 43 and had my hysterectomy in 29th April so taking it easy at home now. I can only echo All the advice given on this thread, like Teresa I found it easier getting in and out of of the chair but still needed to in and out of bed without twisting and using tummy muscles - didn't quite realise how much I needed those arm muscles before !!! But it does help to give you a stretch. There's a couple of videos online which show you how to do this. I found once I got home I had to re-adapt as my bed was lower. As I am one for not sitting down for 5 minutes I'm being conscious when moving etc.

    Take care xXx
