I have a swollen and very painful lump on my clit hood, what should I do?

Hi, I've been having a problem for about five days to a week now. I didn't notice in the beginning as I didn't feel or see anything unusual but now I'm in a alot of pain. On the top of clit hood I have a swollen, reddish lump that's gotten bigger during the day yesterday and has been swelling probably everyday. I don't know what it is as I've never had it before, I'm 19 and a virgin so I know it's not an STD/STI. Also, along the left labia I noticed it's really swollen also but it doesn't hurt until it reaches the clit hood. The hood is swollen so badly that I can't see my clit without really stretching, which hurts. My left is primarily the issue side and as of this moment it burns. I can't walk, sit , sleep or move at all without going through a moment of pain first and I can only sleep on my back. PLEASE HELP!!!!

im a teenager ive never been to a OBGYN but i plan on going soon, ive had this bump before, it went away or i just stopped noticing it but i found it again, it only hurts when i touch it, it gets sore after i do for a few mins its two one bug one and one small one, same as before un the same place, i know you shouldnt trust the internet but i think it could be a cyst. i do masterbate, sometimes rougher. im not sexually active and i work hard to make sure im clean and sanatary i wash my hands before and after and shower everyday. im scared i caused this. the bumps are hard, well their hard enough to not sqeeze easily and i dont want to hurt myself it doesnt look like a pimple it has no opening to "drain" as ive seen. i could really use some advice

i came across this thread on thursday this week after first noticing an issue on tuesday and i cant say how grateful i am because i ended up making an emergency appointment with my gyno and was able to verbalize some of my symptoms clearly thanks to everyone who has been so kind about sharing details in this thread. im on heavy antibiotics after somehow getting a periclotiral abscess after an entire life of no issues whatsoever down there (havent had sex in a long time and i dont masturbate or wear tight clothes) so this can happen to anyone
my dr sent me home with a 7 day twice daily oral antibiotic (she gave me two kinds since i am already hi risk due to other health problems), 2x daily sitz baths, 2x daily warm washcloth on it, and 600mg motrin every 6 hours.
she told me it would either end up popping or would resorb and when i went home the discomfort was so constant i had a panic attack (i also was upset that this could become an ongoing issue) - then after my panic attack i got ready for bed and after sleeping on my back all night and not feeling much pain after falling asleep i woke up to a sort of scab and some pus and then soaked in a sitz bath & warm washcloth more came out and its really relieving, so when people say "when the pain becomes too much that means its gonna pop" its true. today saturday i feel discomfort but not the same pain i felt yesterday. i am only on day 2 of the antibiotics and despite catching this really quickly it has already popped - i noticed it on tuesday and by wed evening/thurs morning it was swollen, friday i saw the gyno and picked up antibiotics, then today saturday morning im doing sitz baths and warm washcloth to keep the healing coming. fingers crossed it does not come back but i am not hopeful it wont after reading everyone elses info!
just wanted to update this thread because it helped me when google didnt really tell me anything besides showing me this article!

hi everyone, this thread is pretty old but i just had to add on. i'm 24 years old. it's currently 5 AM & I've been googling everything under the sun related to this issue..to the point where i had to google photos of vulva anatomy to make sure i was googling the right words and i felt crazy. yes, i also came across vulva cancer which started this intense panic attack. ANYWAYS, i finally came across this thread and i feel so much better but still nervous of course. i noticed maybe a few weeks ago that i had a pea sized lump on the right side of my clitoris/hood, it's a small round hard ball and then it extends, it feels like its attached to a thick vein and follows to my clit or somewhere behind there, i dont know, maybe just thick skin hopefully i make sense. the only difference between my current experience and everyone else's on this thread (besides a few which makes me feel okay), is that it is not painful at all. not itchy at all..nothing. .it's just there, a little ball that i can put between my two fingers and move it around a little?? nothing on top of the skin, i have forcyde spots so i honestly cannot see a specific "white" dot where it would pop from which is what was also said frequently in this thread.
the only other encounter i've had related to a lump/cyst/anything scary down there was in 2018, i had a barthilon cyst on the left side of my vulva which was SOOO PAINFUL, it took about two weeks to pop & i couldn't walk for the last two days when it was at it's end, it had a little white spot where it popped so i can definitely see how that can occur with this lump on the clit.
i guess my only concern is if it's painless, should i not worry about it? i am so scared of the obgyn it is embarrassing....i wish i could be brave enough to just go & face my fears but it's hard. i just want to thank you guys for this thread and i'm going to try and make an appointment finally. i'll update on the pea sized lump in case someone after me comes across this with the same kind of description i have. our flowers can get whacky but don't let google convince you right that you're going to die like i do!! and if you're afraid of the obgyn, make an appointment along with me and let's update each other and face our fears. i wish everyone luck and your kitty relief! ❤️

When i got my first one, it was small and it didn't hurt. It did eventually "itch" and then it went away on its own. As it reoccurred it got bigger and more irritating each time.

Like many of you, this is the only place on the internet i have found information on this issue. i have had this happen to me at least 7 times it NEVER popped until the last time. It was the size of a grape, so painful i could hardly walk, and i was ON AN AIRPLANE .
I went to the bathroom and when i wiped there was blood and puss. I had to drain it in the tiny airplane bathroom. 10/10 do not recommend . But the relief was immediate and i luckily have not had one sense.
Prior to the flight i had been taking warm baths with epsom salt, and doing hot compresses, i think that and the pressure finally did the trick.
Anyway, youre not alone .

i have this exact same problem. mine looks just like the picture, same place and all. Burns and is painful. Happens after friction also. Could be estrogen related i read somewhere or just clogged ducts, especially if i don't rinse with water very well after any interaction. Also seems to happen more with using soap so i just use water inside and limit soap to outside. its so embarrasing and painful. i used to freak out thinking it was herpes or something but i have no STDs and have been tested 1000 times and only one partner. As much as you want to NEVER sqeeze it. ice helps or super cold bottled water. maybe tea tree oil helps or tiny peroxide if just a bit.. Keep clean and soap free. use ice

omg! I've had this happen a couple times and it sucks! I don't know.. I've been told by my primary care Dr that it was a clogged pore/pimple basically. it can come from touching yourself and having dirt/ bacteria on your hands (under nails too). and also can happen when you wipe, if a microscopic piece of toilet paper gets caught and stays there in that fold of your area.. sex.. that can all cause it. basically just like a pimple on your face.... dirt& bacteria creates a clogged pore. but damn does it hurt!! like hell!! and those who have said "it drains/pops on its own... is right. that's been my experience every time, at least. except the first time i got it , when I took things into my own hand and popped it myself.. ... felt better but still not a good idea!
To speed the process up.... & i cant emphasize this enough..... WARM COMPRESS!! i cant emphasize this enough..... WARM COMPRESS!! as often as you can! (and then cold ones during off times.. to help pain). Also .... antibiotic ointment has seemed to help as well. like after i shower/ bath.. I put it on then.
but I'm experiencing it right now... so I came looking online to see if there were any other remedies other women have used..... that's how I found this discussion. best of luck to anyone with this issue... it's not an easy problem

This thread has been so helpful for me and I just want to share my experience in case it can help anyone else as well.
I experienced this periclitoral abcess for the first time 3 months ago. It was just as others have described it, it started with pain and general swelling and grew to the size of a grape before it popped.
I went to a walk-in clinic about a day after it started when it was just general swelling and was told it was an infection and prescribed antibiotics. It kept getting much worse and I noticed that on one side of the grape shaped swelling there was a patch of white by day 5. I have never been in so much pain in my life, I was basically bedridden for a few days and was in pain even when laying down. On day 6, the pain was so excruciating that I went to the ER. As I was walking in to the hospital, the pain was suddenly gone and it turns out the abcess had burst and drained blood and pus. It burst in the same area I had seen the white patch. Since then it looks kind of like a pimple with a whitehead but hasn't flared up massively.
I was reffered to a specialist who has never seen this before and thinks it will eventually go away. She recommended being careful about friction, doing sitz baths a few times a day and to try Polysporin but I haven't given that a go yet. I've also stopped using soap in that area which seems to help.
One thing I've noticed is that things will go back to normal when I am not stressed but it flares up again if I have a stressful/anxious day or two. I was also going through an extremely stressful time when it first cropped up so I believe its related to that in my case.
I am fully expecting this to be something I have to deal with lifelong based on responses before mine but am also hoping to find an experienced Gynaecologist in my area who can help me avoid going through the extreme pain again. Hoping someone can figure out a permanent cure!

Im so glad i found this thread because i was worrying myself silly and i couldnt find ANYTHING that fit what was going on down there.
2 days ago, I was wearing tight shorts and and tight undies and i felt uncomfortable near my clit but sometimes this happens when my pants are too tight so i shrugged it off, but when i got home i showered and looked down and found this pea sized lump and panicked and ran to my mum (i’m 27) lol
it hasn’t been super painful, it defintiely hurts if i mess around with it, but it’s been really irritated especially when walking, and SO ITCHY, but tonight it was a bit bigger and inflamed after a long day ar work and i noticed there was a little white head on it so i gave it a tiny squeeze and some yellowish coloured puss came out. I wasn’t able to keep squeezing to get the remainder of it out because it hurt too much so now im laying in a hot bath with a warm face washer on the area to try and relieve it some more.
i have no idea what this thing is, and this comment probably won’t help anyone but i just wanted to share my experience.
Fingers crossed it goes away on its own and i’ll try and get some more puss out eventually and keep the area clean, but if it doesn’t ease up over the next few days i’m going to see a doctor and see if they recommend antibiotics.
just for some reference, i haven’t had sex in months but i do use a vibrator and sometimes i don’t use any lube so i think the friction and trauma to the area may have been the cause.
good luck ladies. xx

I wanted to add to this discussion because just like others have said this is the only place I could find any information about clitoril cysts and I hope my experience might help someone else dealing with this awful thing.
The cyst varied in size when it was infected but most of the time it was about 5mm and sat directly on top of the clitoris beneath the clitoril hood (which is fused due to menopausal atrophy). It became infected 3 months ago and I saw a gynaecologist who suggested incision and drainage but that we could try antibiotics (flucloxacillin) sitz baths etc first in the hope that it would go away or pop on its own because the skin was so tight. It reduced in size and the pain also lessened but every time I stopped the antibiotics (or had a play) it came back again and the pain was unbearable, it also caused a constant sensation of needing to pee. The Dr said that this was due to irritation of the many nerve endings we have in that area. After 5 courses of antibiotics I finally ended up been admitted as an emergency to hospital 7 days ago for pain relief because the pain was so intense and it felt like my whole pelvic floor had gone into spasm. The Dr completely removed the cyst under local anaesthetic 5 days ago and said it looked like a sebaceous cyst. I have 2 dissolvable stitches in now and have some discomfort and swelling but the relief is unbelievable.
Whilst it was at its worst ice packs really helped reduce the swelling and numbed the area and regular pain killers were helpul too. If you have one of these cysts reach out to the medics to get it sorted ASAP. A lot of these burst on their own which is great but mine was never going to do that and the gynaecologist who removed it said she was surprised I had lasted so long with it. I could tell that some of Drs couldn't believe I had so much pain from such a small lump, (one even wrote on my notes that the level of pain was out of proportion to the size of the lump) but the gynae Dr completely understood due to the location of the cyst how painful it could be. She is a consultant who specialises in vulval problems and I would recommend seeing someone like this who knows what they are doing, you don't want anybody making incisions near your clitoris if they're not familiar with this type of surgery!
I know this a long post but I just wanted anyone dealing with this to know it can be sorted out and don't let anyone make you feel you are overreacting to something so small, it can be absolute agony and I understand how desperate you might feel. Good luck if you currently have one of these cysts and I hope you get it sorted soon.
