I have chronic fatigue and slow transit constipation

Posted , 23 users are following.

I have had IBS for 20 years, was diagnosed with CFS 5 years ago after a series of infections and extreme stress, when I pushied myself over my limits. I was diagnosed then with slow transit constipation and the reason given was long term use of anti biotics for infection has interfered with the gut flora,

I have tried every diet there is, with no improvement, and every supplement recommended, as well as probiotics ( although not taken at the time ), but this seems to have improved the  good bacteria but not the chronic constipation.

I have seen top nutritionists who have tried all the diets and supplements. I am on  prucalopride (strong laxative to make the bowel work), bisocodyl  daily, picolax weekly and peristene kit (like an enema).

The only option I have left is surgery so wondered if anyone else had anything similar to this?

    Hello Patricia,

?I've just read your post having just sent my first post on this site. It seems we share more than a name although I don't have CFS. I'm not sure I have IBS either although I'll be checking this with my consultant this month as linaclotide is prescribed for IBS according to the label. However, I do have slow transit constipation and I would welcome any advice you could give me. I do hope you have made progress. You do have my sympathy and best wishes.

      Hello Pat,

I can't remember seeing your post before but I'm not the most computer literate person. Sorry if I've already replied. Like you, I don't have  CFS and my consultant doesn't think I have IBS although it's a difficult thing to diagnose.

Constella - linaclotide - sometimes helps but not on its own. I have to combine it with large doses of dulcolax pico liquid. It's 3.30am and I'm up cos it's another bad night. This means the meds I took last night aren't working. It's quite frightening cos you csn't avoid the thought - what if this is it and nothing will work from now on.

I know this won't help you but I hope it's some consolation to know others are in the same situation,

      Best wishes,

      Pat,

Hello   I am suffering IBS since been given too many antibiotics 22 years ago, I cannot eat anything with sweetness even banana's. I think I have candida, but these last 7 weeks I cannot pass anything talk about slow transit..I have had to purchase a DIY colon water irigation cleanse.  But I was going to say grains can add to the problem,I think they can get stuck in the wall of the colon. You could try Juicing greens like spinage cabage drink lots of hot/warm water first thing as wake up, then some juice,

Has any one else got a chronic reaction to eating  anything  sweet . If you have candida then you have to avoid sweet things.

Hello. You can put ingredients like cucumber, spinach, kale, green apples, lemon with the peel, small piece of ginger with the peel and natural coconut water in a blender or the bullet and drink it. It can help with any inflammation of your intestines.

Hi Patricia, I'm hoping my experience will help anyone else out there that suffers from slow transit constipation. I know the frustration and anxiety you go through as I've had this condition for approx 20 years. I've had to rely on laxatives all that time. Apart from cutting out gluten, dairy and yeast products (basically just eat good unprocessed foods), the thing that has helped the most is chick peas. Yes, chick peas. I stumbled across this when I was reading an article that said chick peas contain something that helps the colon.  All I know is that it has certainly helped me. I haven't had to take laxatives regularly since i've used them and I can't believe it as nothing else has worked for me. Worth a try! I just take 2 desert spoons  in the morning then the same again in a salad or with other food later in the day. Would be really interested to know if it works for you. Good luck and all the best!

Hi Patricia, tinned chick peas are already cooked so just eat them as they are. The diet I am on is Quite restrictive but has helped a lot (over the last 20 years)-My specialist asked me to do an elimination diet at the time where you try different foods one at a time over a few days to see which ones have a bad effect on your bowel. To cut a long story short, try cutting out anything with wheat,barley,oats/yeast/dairy and anything with artificial colors or flavourings for at least a week and see how you go. It's a pain to have to look at all ingredients on packaging but worth it if it helps. I only have basic unprocessed food, i.e. fruit and vegetables, white fish (tuna is ok), chicken and lamb, some nuts (walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts seem to be ok) water and green tea,--It's very bland but hey if it helps my condition ,I dont care. -If you like dairy, sheep's milk cheeses seem to be ok. Hope some of that will be of some help to you Pat. Good luck and I dont mind how many questions you ask. All the best!

    kind regards

    ?Fiona

Has anyone tried Linzess? Or milk of magnesium at night and Miralax twice a day? Or gone to check your Pelvic floor. It's your muscle of your Pelvic and rectal? Please don't go through surgery without first getting your Pelvic floor checked out.

Due to STC I also have overactive bladder nerves! And I have trouble connecting mind to pelvic floor as cannot feel it. Don't do surgery, I think it could be worse off. Go see a bladder Physio and a urologist... I have not tried those products but have tried parachoc and magnesia San Pellegrino.

Same , easily digestible foods as you described above work the best and foods that don't cause lots of gas.

Elimination diets are the worse hey!

    Hi Patricia,

I have only just found your comments on this site and wanted to add why story of it will help. I too suffer from slow transit time.. I was born with it like most and was diagnosed when I was 24. Back then there was not much help and not the resources like now.. By the way I live in Australia. So after trying everyone's advice and trying everyone's diets i decided on the elimination diet.. This is when I realised it was just food in general that upset me.. Laaxetts, enimas didn't work either . Finally I found. Wonderful product and have been told I can live on it for ever even if I decide to have children.. The two products that I live in daily are Children's Parachoc Liquid Parrafin and Magnesia San Pellegrino .. I swear by these products and I prefer the use of these and the effects rather than suffer from constipation and consistent feeling of unwell. Oh and I drink about 3 litres of water, exercise daily and eat as clean as I can. I still have bad days but Its more manageable this way and I have a life again.. I wish you all the best and hope these things can help ?!

    Hi Patricia.

Every soo many months I'll check out forums to see id anything new came out or anything else new I can learn to better my health. I empathize with yours and other storys. I have been through soo much since I was 13. Im 40 now. Doctors have had me try every thing under the sun. 8 years ago i moved to the city from the country. I was sent to many gastro specialists being probed and poked from every angle. Just when I got to my worst and in the verge of a bowel obstruction a doctor diagnosed me ibs, slow transit conatipation, gastroparesis. She yelled about the doctors before her who push fiber fiber fiber. Fiber ,yea is wonderful for constipation. But when your intestines is paralyzed. The fiber is trying to do the job but is at war with a stomach that is broken. I'm also prone to severe migraines. They are associated with my stomach. Pain killers don't help. But when i finally get to go to the rest room migraine b gone. Sooo 4 years ago i was one of the early birds to b put on linzess. Takes about 3 weeks to become stable. Taking 290 daily. Sometimes i can skip a day. I make an appt with this drug any time I want to work around my work schedule. Takes about 2 hours to kick in. I have to be careful with my diet. Dairy products seem to conflict the drug. Im ok with hard cheeses. Icecream is def a no no. Im not celiac but try to go gluten free as much as possible as it is kinder to my stomach. I eat little fiber but make sure i get it in by over cooking veggies. Any laxative for example dulcolax for me does not work at all with linzess. They really fight against eachother. I'm just throwing some if my experience out there hoping some will help. A part of me is sad because I will have to take this for the rest of my life. But every part of me is overjoyed and thankful that i was able to come out of a bad dream a cloud for soo long and not have to tolerate

The pain . also knowing people have experienced much worse and I only pray for their healing. Ive learned alot about my diet what i can and cant eat. You can ask me any questions if it might help. I hope you and eveyone on this forum is doing well.
