I have LS and use Dermovate and Hydromol which keeps me itch free

But I have noticed I keep getting bruises on the top of my leg they don't hurt and I haven't knocked myself, I also take tablets for under active thyroid and statins. Has anyone had this happen only overheard someone talking about a lady who has cancer and had bruises on her legs and was told this can be a sign of it. Should I mention it to my doctor ?

I take a statin because I am diabetic. If a GP prescribes it then you need it. In Australia they want your cholesterol very low..around two.

mmmmmm.....just back from 10 days in Lanzarote, lots of beer, wine,  ice-cream, chocolate - all the bad things, and not the slighest twinge from the LS the whole time. Maybe we should all just live in the Canaries? I presume its the sunshine and lack of stress that does us all so much good?

I'm sure your right only got here on Monday but already feeling relaxed although I don't have a stressful life back home it's just everyday things you are doing everyday. The sun is shining and we are here with friends who we met 15 years ago who come same time every year like us as we have a timeshare here. Glad you had a good holiday and was itch free it makes life so much better .

Hi all,  Wish I was back in Gran Canaria.  Seems so long ago ince we were , not just 2 weeks.  I think stress definately affects LS so you are right I think.  I notice slight soreness this week after months of being free.  I'm very stressed with work load since my return from hols.  Need another holiday to get over this lot.

I hope you are enjoying yourself x

OMG  I was born at Old Church Hospital, Romford, Essex.  Unfortunately I left there when 7 years old and now live in the North East.  Small world.  Sorry for delay in  replying have been teaching and trying to prepare lessons.

Tis truly a small world I had my first baby in Old Church hospital she was one of the last to be born there in 1966. Whereabouts did you live cos I was born in Hornchurch and have lived in the area most of my life. I'm enjoying my holiday and still itch free, no sign of the pin yet. Oldchurch is now a new housing plot of flats and houses. We have a new hospital built on the park opposite called Queens Hospital . My daughter is now a teaching assistant and loves it but cos she is good gets lots of the children with special needs but doesn't mind . Take care x Carol

      Hi Holiday Girl,

Was born there in 1956.  We lived in Dagenham.  Dad worked at Ford. He moved Us to Luton for Vauxhall in 1963. I had heard about Oldchurch and have recently been looking at old photo's of it when it was a mental hospital before that.  I teach disadvantaged adults and love it.  Very rewarding.  Had a really bad flare up today after all my good advice to everyone to keep it dry and moisturised I got lazy while I was busy.  Got to put myself first for a change.  It is definately important to keep on top of things. Started a relaxation class recently.  Was late and stressed when I got there this week and then was so tired fell asleep during the session as we were trying a meditation. He, He!!  I hope you are still enjoying your hols.  It was quite cloudy often when we were there in the morning.  It is suppose to be cloudy often as the island has its own micro climate. Luckily it burns off quickly. As you can tell we didn't do much sunbathing as I have vetiligo and rosacea which go hand in hand with Ls. Spent most of the hols sightseeing as the sun affects me badly.   Used to go a lovely brown years ago too.  I don't know if the pin will come out on its own Carol. I think it may only be glass that comes out after a while. If it still bothers you on your return you could maybe see someone again about it.  Happy hols.  Chrisy

My Dad worked at Fords as well think  lot of people did then. What do you mean by a flare up cos wondered if that's what I had when I was here 3 years ago. Went to doctors here who said it was water infection gave me antibiotics but didn't really help, I was itching so bad could hardly walk and down below looked like I had sat on an electric fire spent most of the holiday in bed with cold bottles of water between my legs sad thing was had family and grandchildren with us and had looked forward to the holiday for nearly a year. Went out last night and shut my finger in a door doesn't really hurt but has broken off my false nail so looks odd but we are having a lovely time and I am still itch free. It's like we have become pen friends instead of just commenting on a forum . Hospital has sent me an appointment but will get in touch cos they have made it for 25th June and I'm not back till 30th did tell them before I came. My friend stood on a pin when a child and it worked its way to the top of her foot kept catching on her sock then her mum pulled it out will just have to wait and see what happens don't really want them cutting my foot about.  Have a good day Carol

Shame I can't check with Dad anymore to see if your Dad knew him.  Hey ho! I know what you mean about pen friends hope you've had a good day.  Still it is nice to talk about other things as well.  I think we get so fixated on this problem.

The flare up is because I have been so busy on my return what with washing ironing and lesson preparation for 5 new classes I have been a bit lazy with the clob. As soon as I do that I get a flare up.  Usually I can calm it but this time it is being stubborn and has spread to the back end too.  I have tried all my usual tricks without fail.  Back at Dermatologists middle next month so will have to get it under control soon.  If I don't she will call me back in three months and it is quite a way to the hospital.  I don't like wasting their time. Going to try some other moisturisers and keep on at the Clob maybe do it for a few days on the trot this week to see if it will calm.  So itchy.  Typical of the hospitals to ignore you when you are away.  I had the same problem with the foot specialist who sent me an appointment for an MRI scan when I was away last Christmas with my daughter.  I had waited for a year by then so I was not amused.  When they finally sent me another they got the wrong foot and would not change it so I had to wait again for another appointment which I've finally had and I see specialist tomorrow to see if he can help with my problem.  Fingers crossed I've been waiting a total of 18 months for this decision.  Keep cool Carol.

Hi hope all goes well with the appointment today. Still no sign of the pin but can walk so that's ok may have to give up the pole dancing though in case I slip and land on it to hard. My friend has a lot of problems with her leg and foot cos she had polio when she was 3 and when seeing a specialist he said are you ok and she said may have to give up pole dancing and he thought she was serious ( no sence of humour) Hope you get flare up sorted and have nice weekend Carol

Hi, Thanks The appointment was as I expected and I am now on a 3-4 month waiting list for an operation.  Will be in a cast for 8 weeks and then possibly other support for a while.  I am going to research the op and try to find others who have had it done to get some input.  the op is to remove an accessory bone and reattatch a tendon and to also realign my heel which is in the wrong position.  I am worried as there is only a 7 out of 10 success rate but life with the problem is no walking any great distances which is expensive (taxis to get back to car when I have walked too far) Sitting down all day can cause other problems particularly with the ls so I need to give it a try I think. On the subject of Ls it seems better today so I think I have got it under control again thanks.  Enjoy your weekend too.

Glad appointment went ok and hopefully you get it sorted as nothing like not being able to walk. I had bad trip on a kerb about 15 years ago and broke my ankle and 2 bones in my leg and damaged tendons badly I was in cast about 6 weeks then went in to have removed only to wake up to find they put a heavier one on but ok now. I have very bad looking bunions which I would like done but they don't give me any pain so think I will have to forgo strappy  sandels for comfort at my age, unless you are in pain they won't operate and then not always a success We have 1 more week of holiday left so will be sunbathing most days. Glad your LS is better I didn't use Hydromol last night before going out thought I would give it a try but got a bit itchy so obviously need to use all the time .Take care Carol

Ouch! That sounds like something my Mum did when she fell down some crazy paving steps in our back garden.  Very Painful.  There is a much better success rate for bunions these days.  They don't like doing them if you are managing though. You can get some wonderful flat sandals these days though. I have decided with regards to Ls that I need to always treat.  If you miss one time then the result is the "itch". We have to live with this pest and enjoy everything we can.   Enjoy your rest and try the Gran Canarian banana rum - wonderful.
