I know, I know. I was afraid to ask too. This chart helped me, and I apologize if anyone is offended

Sexual positions that are good for THR patients, blue is the man. Pink woman. I was really glad to find this. I'd die before I asked my doctor!!! I know it's a touchy subject, but I think it's important to not be scared. Live a full life and stop anxiety.

      Great point! There are myriad ways to share intimacy, both sexual and other. The sky's the limit! Gotta admit, the pain isn't particularly libido-inducing. Hail the hug! (and massage).

    Hi Luvinlex ,Brilliant, smile   I have had the most funniest moments with this before and after, and I did actually ask my surgeon, who was a bit surprised , then said good question. lol lol We actually had a good laugh , I said well its important to know these things, and Id like to know if my leg will fall off. Then he procceded to tell me the name of my new hip joint, at this he said, "Tridant Stryker " at this I nearly fell over , what a name, makes me feel like a missile lol lol

    Anyway enough of my silliness, hope you are doing well and all you hippies. This forum is great . smile

    Yes thank you for this i never even thought to even google this I've stuggled so bad with this i have spoken to my psychiatrist about it and mentioned it to my GP but she didn't have an answer for me. I not sure if anyone else has experienced this same problem but during intercourse when i climax i get pain and spasms in my groin and my full leg and have to stop it's so frustrating. Sorry if it's to much info but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this before also. I'm not sure if you can msg someone in here privately if someone who is embarrassed to reply here you contact me mmmhhh I'm not sure as i just tried giving my email address but my comment wasn't added so i guess someone will have to tell me how you call privately message someone lol as I'm new to this.

    Thanks

    It was mentioned at the preop school and at the post op check up! Some surgeons must anticipate the question!

    This diagram is much better than the civil-servant inspired instructions I was given by the hospital.

    Well donethere Luvinlex .... we can discuss anything here, nothing is too sensitive.

    In my hospital booklet, I was told not to try anything before the 6 week point, and then to only do what felt comfortable.  I felt that I could not do much before I could start rolling onto my side.  I tried out some positions on my own first to check out my comfort levels, and we decided on something similar to #4 was best for us.

    The main things are;

     1. if it hurts, stop and try something else.

     2. Have fun trying.

    Like you, my wife and I would have been very uncomfortable talking to my consultant about it.   I think there really should be more on this subject in the hospital booklets (there was nothing in my hospital booklet at all), it should not be brushed under the carpet, we are all adults after all, of all ages, young and old, and good loving sex with your partner is a great boost for your recovery.

    I would like a similar diagram that I can put on my website, without breaching any copyright terms, if anyone knows of one.

      This should be a topic that is standard for pre-op sessions, or post op.. ( maybe not post op...a few weeks out -because I didn't remember a single thing for a week post-op due to the morphine. It was like I was on drugs - oops I sure was ) Never felt quite like that before. I understand from my friends who visited "I was really, really funny"...  About the diagram. Google Images with "sexual positions post hip replacement" and you'll see the diagram near the top. Don't know about copyright issues. What is your website? I know you can't add link.

      Great site. I appreciate that you took the time to help other people with problems or questions.

      I always have so many.

      To my PT. "what about this? what about that? what happens when you? when will I? How long will it be?" I like to keep him on his toes. Most of the things I worry about, he'll laugh and say "It's all in your head". I went from 30% at my first assessment to 77% and just was assessed the other day. Seems I'm moving along. Drat that Clam shell exercise... that's just killing me.
