I know its was amlodipine!

I am a healthy 58 yr old and normally very active. BP was rising over the last year or so to 178/98 and so this Jan my Doc put me on Amlodipine 5mg. Thats when it started. Firstly with a loss of energy, then total loss of stamina, I felt like a Zombie all the time. As the month progressed I started to get forgetful, dizzy spells, very tingly left hand and painful joints all througfh my left side. BP did not drop as fast as hoped so Doc added Lisinopril 2.5mg. Hey... off with the faries now! After two weeks I could not concentrate on anything people were telling me and to the point that I was becoming detached from the real world. And that was only after a couple of weeks on the cocktail. I decided to trial which drug was causing this and first removed the Lisinopril for a few days then swapped over to stopping Amlodipine. Cor.. what a difference. Almost the next day after stopping Amlodipine I started to recover. After just one week people at work are now saying 'welcome back' and I know what they mean. BP not down yet but I am never going near Amlodipine again, its a wrecker!

Has anyone else had anything like my reaction?

Magnesium citrate is helpful in reducing pain. Do not use Magnesium Oxide. Serrapeptase is also a great pain reliever and more.

hi , can you tell me the dosage and how many tablets of the Magnesium that work for lowering blood pressure

      Hi Sue,

Let me start by saying that if your are taking Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C, you'll need to consume a bit more of Magnesium. Vitamin D and Vitamin C depletes Magnesium. But, my guess is that you can take a total of 600 mg of Magnesium Citrate divided by 3 times. So 200 mg each time. Make sure it is Citrate and not Oxide. Calcium intake is also important especially for women over 50 primarily for osteoporosis prevention and blood pressure. Many doctors during the 70's prescribed calcium supplements, but 30 years later found that these same women were still affected with osteoporosis and heart disease increased in these women drastically. The common factor was a Magnesium Deficiency according to Dr. Carolyn Dean an expert on Magnesium. Why? Magnesium helps to keep the calcium in the bones. Without sufficient Magnesium intake, calcium leaves the bones and enter the blood stream exacerbating atherosclerosis. So, actually, osteoporosis is caused by a Magnesium deficiency. Ironically the women who suffered from osteoporosis had a normal intake of calcium. Dr. Dean suggests a 1:1 ratio of Calcium to Magnesium supplementation and not 2:1. In addition to magnesium, vitamin K2 will help keep the Calcium in the bones. If you fo not like taking magnesium citrate pills you can spray on Magnesium chloride oil on your body and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before bathing or showering.

      Hope this helps

      Stay well

Magnesium is certainly necessary for healthy blood pressure., however this thread is about Amlodipine . When going on magnesium be aware that it does NOT react well  for people on Amlodipine ,and MAY cause blood pressure increases. I experienced this myself. If your trying to increase magnesium intake which IS advisable, you may want to start with foods high in mag..then switch to supplements.  Good luck to all

The first question is why take that blood pressure medicine to treat a symptoms? People do not get high blood pressure because they are deficient in blood pressure medicine. It's strange that taking magnesium citrate would cause the blood pressure to rise when taking it with amlodipine. Doctors should uncover the root cause of the blood pressure whether it be electrolyte deficiency, adrenal stress, atherosclerosis, Mitral valve prolapse etc.

As far as eating dark green leafy vegetables, that's great. But try eating enough to get 400 - 600 mg of magnesium everyday. Soils are drastically depleted. In some cases magnesium levels of vegetables have dropped 30- 50% compared to vegetsbles 100 years ago.

My point here is to treat the root cause and not the symptoms. See a functional medicine one doctor who will treat the root cause and not the symptoms. That is not practicing medicine. Drugs are for acute illness like heart attacks, stroke infections and so on to keep people alive until the root cause is found of that acute illness.

I agree 100 percent with your statement...Magnesium, fish oil, beet powder, Co-q, milled flax seed vitamin D,,trace element like selenium, stress reduction will reduce blood pressure for certain people. Obviously, you might still have to use blood pressure meds. Hopefully by using natural alternatives you can get off them. Amlldipine seems to react to magnesium because its has the same valence as Calcium. 2 So its important to slowly increase the magnesium route white very slowly reducing the Amlodipine. Always monitor very closely during this process. Their are may types of hypertension drugs, so these may not be affected by magnesium ..Good Luck to all!

Thank you for your advice I appreciate that I am on coumadin a blood thinner and we can't use magnesium because it counteracts with the Coumadin everything counteracts with coumadin so I have to be really careful with her it's natural supplements or anything I wish I could take magnesium or any other I'm going to have to find out about because some of the medications and some of supplements can end up having the same chemical reaction in your body as amlodipine or Carvedilol

I believe you can inject blood thinner and you would not have food restrictions

Hi folks you should just buy and eat canned beets people need to get certain vitamins and minerals from the food directly not from supplements!

Just eat good wholesome food, keep your body in motion, sip a glass of a red wine occasionally, even look in the mirror and laugh at yourself you really get a great feeling of satifaction. Remember laughter is the best medicine!

      ENJOY ***** LIFE IS GOOOOOOOD!
