I'm 26 and just had a marsupilation of bartholin cyst six days ago. I was not at all prepared for how it would look afterwards and have been in a lot of discomfort since!! I've also been somewhat concerned that the area is very bruised and feels hard, but perhaps after only a week this is normal whilst the area is healing. I would have hoped to have had a little more information from the hospital as this was limited and i guess i felt unprepared for afterward the op. Anyways, i'm hoping it heals nicely and that i have no more reoccurrences – fingers crossed. Furthermore i was told by my surgeon that Marsupilation is meant to be the best procedure – whether others agree would be interesting to know…
Secondly i have to say that although I think this website is useful to share information I guess as a new suffer myself it would have been nice to see more positive feedback and success stories because after reading all the comments I was quite horrified at the reoccurrences and left doubting whether I should have left well alone as opposed to having surgical treatment!!
I would be grateful to hear if anyone has any marsupilation success stories...
:D

Hello you all ,
I wanted to give an update after the operation because I too was once scared as can be! About over 3 years ago I started getting bartholin cyst (left side) like every month or two (worse during the summer) and would have incisions to the point that I was getting sick a lot and it kept re-occurring! I just wanted it out ! Anyways in February Of 2015 I decided to get it removed ! The issue ain't the operation because it's a day hospital so they put you to sleep and you go home that night ! It's the 2 weeks after ! I do not remember anything after and for the first 1-2 days I was in bed sleeping ! (You definitely need somebody to pick you up from the hospital and bring you to bed - need pads for under the sheets cause you do bleed)! I couldn't bath or shower (stitches) so it was mostly hand washing ! Going to the bathroom was a pain because I needed specific wipes ! The pain is sharp like having a cut and going into the ocean ! However my point is it was all worth it ! Besides being on oxy and pain killers , I did take 1-2 weeks off and started to walk proper 3-4days after ! She was amazing and kept calling for any problems ! I also told them to keep the cyst for labs and analysis ! After a week I was able to do salt bath which freaked me out because the stitches were dissolving and sometimes come out ! Regarding your period I would recommend doing the operation right after and also be prepared at home ! You will feel in pain but nothing like having the pressure of the cyst in you! Regarding my cycle yes it did get messed up for the first year ! I also didn't have sexual intercourse until 1-2 months later! Anyways 2-3 weeks later I had my normal visit and everything was amazing ! I would recommend it ! The sac gets removed and you can feel it gone once the operation is done ! Just side effects but now it's been almost 2 years and it's amazing ! My cycle isn't always perfect which they suggest right after 2-4 weeks to be on the pill to balance your hormones ! I am against them so I refused ! I wish the best luck ! Any questions, help, remedies I will love to help!
Best of luck
Tina

Hello! I'm Bella, I'm a 28 year old smoker. I had the Marsuplization of the Right Bartholin Cyst 7 days ago. I would like to walk you through my story, when I was preparing for this surgery I didn't find a lot of information on what to expect. I had my first cyst at 16 years old. It was drained, and recurred approximately 15 times. 7 times I had drained professionally. Other times it would pop on its own or I would drain it with a needle. I honestly thought this was something I would always have to deal with. This year, 2016 my cyst came back 3 times. The second time was the first time anyone had even mentioned maruspilzation. The third time at urgent care an OBGYN was called and she wanted to move forward with surgery. My pre-op was 5 days before surgery. For 2 weeks I should have been instructed to cease drinking alcohol, smoking or any THC. Thursday night at 12am I had to stop eating and drinking completely. If you are having this surgery and the nurse says its ok to consume liquids until 2 hours before THEY ARE NOT INFORMED. The complications can be devastating or your surgery will be cancelled. The anxiety prior to surgery was intense, I couldn't sleep. Please consult your Dr if you are on any anti-anxiety mediciations. From my research they do not interfere with anasthesia, but better safe than sorry. I went into the hospital and was called back. I disrobed and laid down. I had a wig, socks and a robe. My belongings were placed under the hospital bed. The nurse asked me 900 questions, they set up my IV. They used lidocaine so that was nice. I had antibiotics with my saline. The anesthesiologist interviewed me and than gave me something that made me really loopy. After that I remember being wheeled in and having a mask placed over my face. Lights out. I woke up disoriented and loopy in the same place I began. They gave me pain meds by IV because I was already crying. They wheeled me out. My husband drove me home, carried me up the stairs and put me to bed. The next day my family came. Walking, sitting up, layng back was difficult. I urinated twice later in the day. It was painful, but the pain meds helped tremendously. I could at least dull the pain. I had sharp pains, that came on suddenly and would last a few minutes the first four days. I managed somehow to pop 4 stitches which has lead to much discomfort. The bleeding is frequent and comes in rushes. I bled badly (alittle less than a period) The first 5 days. By day 6 it has slowed. The first two days my pelvis and thighs were purple and blue. The swelling has gone down, however, it is still quite swollen and tender. I did have a follow up and the Dr said everything looks good. Sitz baths, after this surgery the sitz baths caused me stinging pain for the first 3 days. For those of you who work, take a least 1.5 weeks off. You do not want to cause further injury or discomfort. For me, the Dr found 3 other cysts and the area was raw. At times it feels almost like dry socket. But the pain is manageable. Tylenol PM has been a huge help with getting through the night.
It's not horrible or anything to be frightened of. Stay strong ladies and I'll update you on if there are any recurances. I hope this helps.

Hello
I am 19 years old and I have just had this procedure done yesterday. Surprisingly, I feel really relieved of pain of the cyst but I just feel bruised and sore and as though I cannot walk properly. I haven't had a chance to look at the scarring and I'm not too sure if I want to either. Can someone confirm if I did have a look I would see the stitches etc or if this is more internal?
Thanks!

In short. I have had the drainage TWO TIMES by two different doctors and they both came back. It is a little tiny scar and heals quickly but it came back again. I am now looking for a coochie expert in Chicago who can do this surgery right!
It will come back. The doctors are just getting your money.

Hi. I too had this procedure 6 days ago. I wasn't too sore afterwards which surprised me and like you I was given no advice from the hospital as to what to expect. I've noticed today a swelling there which feels like another cyst. I rung my emergency gynaecology number to be told ring back tomorrow as no nurse there today! I've had a BC 3 times now. 1st one I had treated under GA where they inserted a wick and all was fine for 6 years then it came back. 2nd time had it drained and a word catheter fitted. This fell out after 6 days but it did its job and I was cyst free for 7 years. This time I had the word catheter fitted which fell out after 5 days. Another cyst came back which burst on its own. Then it came back again and had the surgery. It just doesn't seem to want to go away this time.
How owe is yours doing now?

Amaz.
You had a BC and the surgery was a marsupilization, correct?
My cyst was the size of a golf ball and it was caused by a blocked gland in my perineal area (there are glands on each side).
My surgery was a breeze and afterwards I didnt have any problems- I had small children so I just got in with it.
If you had the same procedure, it shouldn't cause you great discomfort afterwards.
(It was a relief for me)
Do you have a fever?
Regardless, please call your dr ASAP
I'm wishing you a speedy recovery: )

I just had a cyst removed 4 days ago. Doctor said it was a 30-45 min procedure, but it was more complicated than expected. Surgery took 2 hours. Looks like my lady parts have been beaten with a bat! 2 days after surgery, I went to see doctor to take out the drain. She immediately sent me to hospital because she thought I had blood clots. Hospital confirmed a hematoma & said it seemed to be confined so no need to do another surgery. Now I am home & im very worried about infection. Ice & pain meds are comforting, but I need it to start healing! Did anyone have the cyst completed removed? Can anyone speak on healing time & what to expect? There is very little blood, but how do I know what is normal? Help!

What does the marsupilation look like years after it's healed? Are you really left open forever? It sounds very frankensteinish and scary. How do you keep it from getting infected every day?

the marsupialization is most of the times temporarily because the cyst usually comes back after some time.
the gland removal is the only permanent solution to these monsters.

So 6 weeks ago I had a marsupilation of bartholin cyst.
I stopped feeling tender and uncomfortbale roughly 2 weeks after the Op. I had the lump for 5 days before going to the hospital because I thought it would just go away, and they ended up having to operate on me that day because it was so big
Now, 6 weeks on I feel completely normal but cannot have sex. And I can still see some type of stitches where the cyst was removed.
I was wondering how long it was after operation for everyone else to be able to have sex again ?
And were everyone elses stitches Dissolvable??
Thanks - M
