cheesygrin  Wow I am on the other side of this and feeling really really good!!!! The staff here at my hospital couldn't be any better. So kind and accommodating and knowledgable. Surgery went smoothly and I don't recall a thing. I went out quickly.

The pain is not bad at all!!! Seriously I wouldn't lie!!!  I am a new proud member of of the hippie club now!

I cant tell you guys enough how amazing you all have been. You all were so very helpful it's hard to put into words. Everyone seemed to say all of the right things - just what I needed to hear!!!  THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

Hugs and love and fairy dust to all of you.

Thanks gal - great to know. I am entering frustratation period today - will see what tomorrow brings. Happy it's over but still have a pity party sometimes.

Last night at home was a rough one. But at least I was home.

Well I don't want to say I told you so...... 😂 Well done, every day now is a day closer to being 'normal' you might have the odd tough day, but they'll pass, and get fewer and fewer 👍🏼

Update on the dancing - went to a friends house for a small gathering last night, had a few drinks, a bit of a laugh and a good hour or two of dancing.....I'd gone in flats but I'm still planning on the heels next weekend at the Christmas party 😃

Going home tomorrow roxy - what are the hassles / problems. ?

      Hey lady. Good for you!!

The simple hassles of the fact it's not the hospital. Bed doesn't incline or raise and lower. I had to use the bathroom every couple hours last night so my husband had to help me every couple hours and although he has been awesome - he isn't a nurse. He is exhausted and still needs to help care for me w food medicine pets etc. Trying to get in and out of bed. We bought stair steps that you use for aerobics to use as a stool to get in out of bed. Trying to fit walker by the bed and not take myself or the dresser

      down was an obstacle.

The comode fits over my toilet but it's a tight fit.

Finding ways to get in and out of my chairs at home. Adjusting positions as painlessly as possible. Taking a shower today felt great but wiped me out!!!  I am very lucky to have a roomy house and shower but still just daily adjustments were necessary to tackle.

you will be glad to be home!  But just realize it's another set of obstacles is all.

Welcome home lady!!!  Hope, that offered some help.

Thanks roxy - really want to be home but I can foresee lots of problems - good luck to you x

You will have problems asRoxy lists, but slowly it gets better.

I am ever mindful of the strain I am putting on my wife - like me she has good days (we have fun) and bad days when she goes to pieces.

Getting into bed, I now almost throw myself on my back whilst pressing my legstogether - the legs come up easily with the good one supporting the weaker one.

Getting out of chairs can be a challenge if there are noarms to support yourself.

Adjusting your position in chairs is an art, and I found that adjusting my position in bed a real challenge (I lost a lot of weight, but am still not exactly skinny!)

Showering is a three person experience (!) as my wife cannot remove or put on the TED stockings, so I have to get my son to do that.

At 5 weeks, I am now down to one stick, so I can make tea for my wife, and transport it to her (slowly) !

      Best wishes

      Graham

Hi Rocketman, just curious as to why you still have to do socks, problems with swelling? Just wondered, I quit wearing mine at 2 weeks, I asked why I had to while in rehab, nurse said she didn't know because usually they are for those who don't move around much and I walked every day plus pt. She asked doctor he said for swelling but I wasn't swelling much so it was my choice to continue or not, I quit😃just wondered, mine went to thigh absolutely detested them lol

This is one of those questions that different hospitals/surgeons disagree on. At one time the advice was always six weeks but these days with the anti-clotting medication given for so long the advice about TED stocking varies.  At my hospital one surgeon insists on 12 weeks, others say six weeks, others say don't bother once you have gone home.  My own surgeon stated that hospital policy was six weeks but personally he was not a great fan.

I live on my own and could not pull them up, particularly on the operated leg and they were slipping and sticking into my leg which is more dangerous so I discarded them.

That's what they told me to do for 6 weeks .... only obeying orders!

I have just done 1.3 miles to town, and got picked up for the return home, so I am active.  My father however died of a DVT many years ago, so I am happy to take precautions.

Six weeks this Thursday,so expect to ditch them, until my next surgery in January.
