I have had PHN for five months. Lyrica has helped, but I become tired after taking it In The morning and need a nap each day.  I have not experience anxiety. I think sometime the pain is so overwhelming that you could experience depression.  Mine pain is very slowly getting less.  This is such tough stuff.  I had some pain injections a week ago, but they have not helped much and I tried actupuncture for a month.  That seemed to help for the first few weeks. I do so hope you can get some relief.

Bouts of anxiety and depression are common with sustained nerve pain. Most of us on this forum I've been fighting it for a very long time. Your doctor will prescribe a variety of protocols to help you. You'll have to determine what works best for you

I've been on gabapentin for 5 years,. after lyrica. I have phn and don't suffer any side effects thankfully. I guess I'm just lucky. Try to fight it. I know is't easier said than done. . Keep believing it will heal itself one day.

    My thoughts are with you.

I tried Lyrica for a short time, disliked it immediately and have been on Gabapentin over seven years. Also taking heavy opiates as well because I have severe back and neck stenosis and degeneration coupled with herniation and arthritis. I am trying to wean myself off of the drugs completely, will attempt to manage the pain with exercise and meditation. I loathe the opiates!!

Anxiety/Depression seems to be a consequence of consistent considerable pain. Doctors often times address symptoms with a particular antidepressant protocol for PHN sufferers that also assist in pain control.

I was on Lyrica for 5 years.  Not only did it make me groggy, it caused constinent constipation.  I am now taking 1800 mg of Gralise.  It is a time release gabaptin.  I am still groggy at times but no constipation.  It seems to work better on my pain than Lyrica did.  Very expensive though.
