I'm really struggling with my prolapse

Last year I was diagnosed with a prolapsed bladder. I had physiotherapy (pelvic floor exercises) and felt much better. Two weeks ago I spent a day gardening and felt a huge lump between my legs. It did go back in but since then by lunchtime I have a bulge between my legs. It's so uncomfortable. I have backache and feel constantly drained. As soon as I start doing any housework it gets worse. I am so irritable as I feel dirty and feel as though my insides are falling out. I went to the doctors and am having a pessary fitted next week. If this doesn't work I don't know what I'll do. I've always been so active. I've started doing pelvic floor exercises again but they don't seem to be working and I'm terrified of having surgery. I've read such horror stories

    Hi

I had this same problem after giving birth to a large baby and having problems after tge delivery that were not picked up at the hospital. Very long story. In regards to the bladder prolapse, I had an anterior repair to lift the bladder back up. It worked well for me. It was repaired using my own skin. If you do need to have it repared do try to have it down without a mesh as they are causing a lot of problems. My surgeon was Mr Lamont who was based at Northwick Park but he is now private at Churchill Clemetine In Harrow. Have you seen a Gynaecologist or just GP. Do you have any other Gynae issues?

No. I've just seen my G P. I don't have any other Gynae issues. I've heard so many horror stories regarding operations using mesh

Do not give up. Mine was really uncomfortable ans raw feeling. I agree you should try as much as you can to correct it before resorting to surgery. Depends on the severity of the prolapse. It is frustrating when you are used to being active. Some people do find relief from pessaries and some find them uncomfortabl. I would definately get referred to a Gynaecologist for an opinion even if you fo not decide to go for surgery. They may have some ideas and other therapies for you to try. No harm in having a consultation. Get on the list a.s.a.p as sometimes the wait can be very long. What area do you live in? Have you had any recomendations?

Hi Carol, I am recovering from recent surgery to correct a prolapsed uterus and each day I am feeling stronger (only 10 days since the procedure). It is so good to feel 'normal' again without that dreadful bulge. Ask your doctor to refer you to a gynaecologist and express your fears to him. Mine was brilliant . Try not to focus on the horror stories. I am sure there are many more positive results like my own. But do talk to a consultant and then make your mind up. Good luck.

Thank you so much Jennifer.  Reading your message made me feel so much better. I think you're probably right Jennifer I really do need to speak to a gynaecologist and I think I've been listening to too many horror stories. I can't carry on like this as I've always been so active. I have a busy job, a large garden and a dog that needs walking twice a day. I want to go back to enjoying all these things Today my husbands been busy in the garden and I'm so angry that I daren't go out and do any digging. Please continue to let me know how you feel. I wish you a quick and speedy recovery

Hi Carol, I am so glad I was able to help albeit in a small way. I too lead an active life, love gardening and also have a hound that needs walking twice a day in nearby woodland. I can't wait to resume normal life. Psychologically I feel so much better without the dreadful bulge and although the last 10 days have been uncomfortable things are settling down and each day I feel an improvement. I have not regretted the decision to have surgery at all. Thank you for your kind good wishes and do let me know if you have any wobbly moments ,which you are bound to have , that I will do my best to help with. Good luck.

Hi Carol. The last 3 days have been so much better.Whooopppeee! This is the danger period though when because you are feeling a lot better you start doing things too soon. My husband is keeping a close eye on me! Yes I did feel tired before my op and particularly noticed it when I was walking Grace. A long walk over the woods was becoming very tiring which was not good. My consultant has assured me that walking, once I have recovered, will be good and I can't wait. It will be two weeks tomorrow since my procedure and I am definitely on the mend. Thank you for asking.

Hi Jennifer, It's lovely to hear how well you're doing and that you're looking forward to this summer when you can continue walking Grace and being active again. Your my inspiration. I''m going to the doctors this week to have the pessaries fitted. I can't see them working (but then that's me being negative).  If they don't work I'm not going to mess around I'm going to have the op. I feel so much better now I can see a way forward. Thank you so much x

Hi There! Well done for moving things forward and going to see your doctor this week. It is stressful and I shall be thinking of you. But you are doing the right thing. I do hope the pessaries work as no one wants surgery unless necessary so fingers (and legs!) crossed. I was referred to a local, private hospital but under the NHS. It is part of the Patient Choice Agenda (lots of info on Google) and well worth looking into and asking your doctor. Good luck and please let me know how you get on x

Hi Carol, I had surgery for a posterior prolapse on 6th January but was told straight after surgery I would need to return for an hysterectomy and anterior repair after 6 weeks I felt everything drop and it was horrible ( as I had only minor problemd before) I have been fitted with a pessary ring whilst awaiting surgery and it really helps no bulge and only a little pain, if it doesn't fell right at first just go back as the right size needs to be fitted, hope this hepls. Best of luck Lesley

    Hi

I am struggling with the very same issues. I am trying to go all natural and being more diligent about excercising properly, daily. I have not focused on doing the proper excercises. So Im starting this week. Getting rid of all food products that may contain contaminated GMO's from my life and body. Not an easy task. But once you get used to recognizing what are risk products it gets easier. I do feel a bit better because of that.  Im fit. In my mid 50's and can't beleive this is happening to me. Things are getting worse almost daily as far as my uterin prolapse goes. Im afraid an operation is inevitable but have not seen anyone with long term success. Quite the opposite. Very scary. I am hoping somemore ladies come forward with long term good stories. Otherwise Im hoping to hold out until more advancement in this area is made. Don't really get why Prolapse is not by this day in age a simple fix. Seems like someone should have come up with something by now. Good grief! For now Im going to keep excercising. Hope you get a good report from someone. Please let us know how your pessary is going. Take Care!
