Hi. I am scheduled for the right eye on Tuesday. I had the left eye done almost 3 years ago. My Dr gave me 2 Valium tablets. One to take the night before and one for the morning. I am not sure I'll take the night one as last time I had a harder time sleeping with it than without. When I was in the OR they gave me some meds to relax me. I asked if I could have more as I was still nervous. They gave me more and I don't remember anything until I was in post op. It did not hurt at all. I also had a vitrectomy and peel done on the same eye this past January. Same thing, Twilight sleep, and no pain. Just remembering the eye drops was the hardest part.

I am getting mono, for near vision. My other eye had a macular pucker so it will never be very good but now I'll have semi-automatic bifocal.. I tried it woult with dollar store reading glasses and took the lens out from the left side to see how I'd like it. Worked fine.

    Hi,

I had cataract surgery on my right eye 5 weeks ago, like you I was very nervous before hand but the operation was so quick and painless I needn't have worried.

My left eye hasn't been scheduled yet but I don't think I'll be as worried for the second one.

Quick question, why are you having the second op so soon after the first? Is it your own choice or did the surgeon suggest it? Here in the U.K. they won't carry out the second eye until the first has healed and stabilised.

Do you know what lens types you are getting?

Oh gosh really?  Over here in the States I had my left eye done 2 weeks after the right!!!  The surgery was fine - absolutely painless but I don't recall any of us here being given valium?  We had 3 types of eye drops that we had to start a week prior to the surgery and continue for a further week.

Yeah, I'm due to see my consultant on Tuesday when we will discuss what lens I want for my left eye. I reckon by the time I get the second eye done it will be nearly 12 weeks between operations.

I didn't get any Valium or any other drugs post operation (except for the eye drops anaesthetic) in fact my pre-op happened the day before the surgery and that's when they measured my eyes for fitting.

Am going all bonkers today.  For some reason I read 5 weeks as 5 years.  I do need to take a valium (ha ha) tonight!!!

What type of lens did you get on your right eye?  Wouldn't it be the same for the left?

And now I'm really curious.  Why is it that everyone gets cataract in the right eye first?  Just asking the question out loud.  Will google it.

I don't know what types. The surgery was planned by my doctor. Thanks for responding!

I got a single focus distance lens in right eye. Options for the left eye are; distance, near (monovision) or go private for a multifocal lens.

I've still not made up my mind on this, after surgery on the right eye I tried monovision using a contact lens in the left eye and I took to it very well, unfortunately after about a fortnight my right vision deterioated from better than 20/20 to less than 20/30 and that made me turn to trialing multifocal contacts in my left eye. After three weeks of this I still can't adapt to the multivision lens - distance is good but I can't see any near or intermediate!

That's the reason I asked about getting both eyes done within two weeks of each other since my first eye has changed a bit since the initial operation.

Hi, I will reply you tomorrow. Initially I joined a different forum and still am in it. Today, let's wish 2MichNancy the very best of luck for a successful surgery tomorrow.

Hi, sorry I could not reply yesterday.  Should have wished you luck too.  What was the decision made on your left eye?

I can't write much here because the topic/s seems to be different, but if you want to get more info on multifocals find me on the forum on starburst and halos.  Am not in a good place..... many others too. Do not want to make anyone on here nervous.  See you on the other sidewink

Yeah, I could write a book on my experiences this year lol.

To be fair most of my problems have stemmed from a retinal detachment surgery I had in February and not the cataract surgery.

my macula inflammation is healing nicely and visual acuity is back to 20/20, so I'm going for mono vision as I can't seem to get to grips with multifocal contacts.

Thanks for the moral support 👍

Great decision. If I had the choice or knew what I know now I would have got the mono. I think it is much safer.

I went to a new opthalmologist who thinks I may have macular degeneration on my left eye. So I see a retina specialist on the 22nd. Me thinks she's wrong, but hey am not a doctor so will go see the new specialist

Re he drops prior to surgery - find it odd each country has different procedure. I am scheduled for surgery in 3 weeks. Prescribed 2 kinds of drops to start 2 days prior to surgery.
