I'm sick of me

Posted , 6 users are following.

Started last nov, meds since feb/mar, all is a blurr and now still on 50mcg levo I must say I do have moments with more energy ... speed (palpitations, panic attacks, insomnia), and most days I continue to feel exhausted. I wake each day now depressed. I end each day depressed. I have 3 small kids who are my world. I am still on sick leave from work. This is not me.

Can anybody tell me if Levothyroxine can make depression happen or is it low thyroid symptoms?

I cannot continue like this. My endo appt is 3 may but so far I am not impressed. Saw him first time last Feb after aĺl tests and scans done.

With thyroid should it not be more normal to see endo every 6wks - 2 mths?

    Dear Mary

I am very sorry to read that you feel depressed.

I have been through this myself and in fact am still going though it. It is not nice, not nice at  all.

You asked if the levoythroxine can be the cause of the depression I do not know . I have sent you a llink via PM.

According to the link which I have to say I have not scrutinised but merely scanned over opinions on whether levo can cause depression appear to be divided.

Some people saying that levo has caused them to feel depressed whilst others are saying that it has not.

However from my own research over several months I have seen time and time again that depression and anxiety are high on the list of the signs and symptoms of any thyroid disorder be it hypo or hype as they can also be of adrenal stress/fatigue.

I also read that in order for the levothyroxine tto be effective that any existing adrenal stress/fatigue needs addressing first.

I would suggest that you speak to your GP or Specialist about the way that you feel. Sometimes just talking tto someone can be therapeutic.

    The catartic effect.

Please let us know how you get on.

    Keep strong and positive.

    Take care.

I googled depression and levothyroxine. It seems that some people say they are depressed due to levothyroxine others say that it does not cause them to feel depressed/.

    Hi Mary,

Yes levothyroxine can cause these symptoms. I am trying to come off the stuff and noticed my mood lifted after eight years of feeling 'low'. I also found my energy levels increasing. I was put on levothyroxine by mistake (Yeh!).

Heart palpitations and insomnia usually mean you are taking too much - ask your doctor to check your levels.

I am only allowed an appointment every three months with the endo - the nhs don't usually let you have one more frequently than thay unless there is a specific reason I guess.

If you want to try another med go for NDT with a private specialist (the nhs won't fund it). I've heard good things as this is a natural hormone rather than man-made. A lot of people say they get their life back.

      Hi caz

That is terrible to be ut on the wrong drug.

It is good to get first hand accounts from people as to how drugs have affected them.

It is better still to hear  that ndt has helped you.

I agree that a lot of people say they got their life back.
