I’m sooo fed up about my hair - help!

I’ve been perimenopausal for over 18 months and have successfully alleviated or reduced many of my symptoms but despite a mirena coil and bio identical estrogen, my hair has become unmanageable. It’s thinner (no noticeable hair loss), not growing much but the biggest problem is the dry coarse condition where I used to have soft shiny hair that behaved. I really can’t do anything to make it look better. As I know I’m perimenopausal it doesn’t take much for my moods to dip and some days I feel depressed about how I look. I know it’s only my hair but this is becoming a real issue for me and my confidence is already low.  Any tips and advice re managing it? And will this ever improve????!

Hi there I can imagine how upsetting this is for you. If any consolation my own hair is sparce and quite brittle these days although no major hairloss.

I use olaplex no.3 which I have bought online. It really does make my hair feel loads healthier. Its not cheap but well worth it. Hope this helps. Hugs to you x

I already use Olaplex 3 as well as Philip Kingsley Elastercizer.  It’s better straight after but within a few hours it’s back to normal! The hairdresser says my hair is strong so the Olaplex etc are doing their job but they haven’t improved the texture.

Take B vitamins  They will help your hair.  Has your hair gone white?  Loosing your hair color makes your hair coarse.

I take vitamin B complex as well as extra Biotin.  I have started to go grey in places but even the rest of the hair has changed in texture. I’ve always coloured my hair and I don’t think that’s helped as I head towards the menopause. Whatever I try to do doesn’t seem to make any difference.

You could try conditioning with Carol's Daughter manoi deep conditioning product.  It is fabulous.

I’ll give this a try thanks. Someone else mentioned hemp tablets which helped them through the dry hair part of menopause.

Condition well, cut into a super cute short bob, and then use a flat iron to straighten the bob... ☺☺☺

Done but within hours of straightening it reverts to a frizzy mess and 24 hours later my normally thick hair feels limp and flat. I guess it’s the complete change of hair texture to coarse and frizzy I’m struggling with.

    Hi angieB48

I use 3 pumps of Moroccan oil on my long hair which makes it feel really nice and it makes it easy to comb. It is a lot thinner than it used to be, I think that’s because the hair strand is just finer not because you are losing hair. Also I stopped using shampoo with silicon and parabins.

Thanks. I used to use Moroccan oil and I have something similar now. After washing if I use it and straighten my hair it looks ok until I’ve slept on it then goes wiry and the ends look really fine and greasy. Today I’ve woken up with th worst hair ever. It even looks bad scraped back.  My hair used to be the one thing that looked good. So sad now I don’t even have that.

I know the feeling I had long course hair which I could wear straight or curly.

Now I have use extensions or lace wigs to make myself feel better. I don't look good with short hair so cutting my hair to a nice Bob does not work for me😣

Yes I’m not sure about going shorter as the wiry texture might look worse and I wouldn’t be able to scrape it back when it looks bad. Although even putting into a band or clip looks bad as I have so many wispy hairs underneath. My hair never used to be something I had to worry about. Now it’s a daily source of anxiety.

Yes...  I want my hair back too..   I have been 'oiling' my hair whenever I can allow it to sit for a longtime .  I just started using an 'egg mask'  since hair needs protein-it's messy but I think worth it!!.  I take many vitamins.   I don't wash my hair everyday and when I do I use Nioxen and carol daughters products.   The good thing about putting oil in your hair is as your massaging your scalp, your nails get moisturized too.

I’ve bought that many products to try in an attempt to find something that works on my hair and nothing has. The hairdresser can make it look good but I’ve tried replicating what she does and I can’t.  I know my perimenopausal mind is also making me see this as more of an issue than it should be but our hair should be something that makes us feel good about ourselves!
