So I want to know if there is any difference at all between the blue and white one's? Other than who they are made by?... Who else is at the moment taking this brand? Have you found any difference in them? Hi Shelly,

I was prescribed sertraline under the brand name Lustral.  This was a white tablet.  I was then asked by my Dr. to change to the generic form of sertraline as it was much cheaper.  The generic tablets were blue.  They are both still sertraline.  I was told that sometimes the fillers they use can vary but not the active ingredient.

Hi shelly when I first started sertraline I had quite a few different brands of sertraline the lupin 1 was the worst for me it gave me really bad abdominal cramps and the runs mine was orange in colour but it was 100mg not 50mg but it was def the lupin brand, they try and change my brand at the chemist every time I pick up a new prescription so I ave ad to ask them to write on my notes that I need the same brand every time as I ave heard it can make a big diff, the 1 I'm on at min is aurobindo and works well for me I've also ad the accord brand which was fine but sometimes diff to get hold of hope this helps Michelle xx

    Hi Shelly,

I understand how difficult this can be. I believe the different colours are for the different strengths of the tablets. Green is for 25 mg, blue for 50mg and yellow for 100 mg. (I think. Don't quote me.) There is a lot of discussion on forums about the different effects of taking a branded product, like Lustral, and the generic form. They are both sertraline and will do the same job. However, I did experience different symptoms when being swapped from one to the other. Sometimes Lustral was not available at my pharmacy and they automatically gave me the generic form. Sometimes it seemed to be a Spanish brand or other European one. I was told they were all the same. One pharmacist however did admit that some people experienced symptoms from taking Sertraline from a different manufacturer. The Dr won't admit there are any differences. What I did find was that if you can stick to one brand, rather than swapping between different ones, things settle down. It was the swapping back and forth between brands that caused me to have increased symptoms. Most people believe Lustral is the gold standard. Lustral is like putting a high end brand name on a product like Channel, the generic form is like buying the same product from your local supermarket and hence is much cheaper. They both do the same thing. I don't know if this link will work, but it's a discussion about people who have experienced symptoms when swapping brands. https://patient.info/forums/discuss/generics-can-they-make-you-feel-this-bad--28893

I started taking Sertraline in November last year and was beginning to feel better by mid January then  the Chemists swapped me to a different brand (Aurobinda) and within about 10 days I was suicidal and every waking moment was full of opportunities to carry this out. For eample opening the cupboard under the sink to do the washing up seeing bleach and thinking I could drink this. Driving past high buidings was an opportunity to throw myself off. It was relentless - I had no idea why I suddenly had taken such a dive in mood. I went to my GP and she swapped me to branded Lustral - it took several weeks but I did get back to where i had been in mid January. I am now having difficulty sourcing Lustral as there seems to be a supply problem so I may have to risk another bad reaction by swapping to another generic. My advice would be to take the tablets as prescribed but monitor your symptoms and see if anything changes. My GP confirmed what jGloucs says the generics have the same drug but have different colourings and fillers which affect how your body absorbs the drug. Everyone reacts differently. Good luck!

Thankyou soooooo much to all you lovely people.......my god all different reactions I'm so sorry fornu all with some bad reactions from the different tablets.

I have had this exact same problem on Propanolol I had to ask the GP on my repeat perscription to stick to my main drug (branded name) as I was getting fobbed off with others and found I wasn't taking to good with them

sooooo looks like I'll be doing the same again with Sertline and getting to see if he can keep me to what I've always had!!!! What a pain....x

I have never had different colours all are white here but different brands.   I have had 3 different brands but thankfully haven't noticed any difference . I remember when I first started being concerned but the chemist told me they are exactly the same just boxed and packaged differently it doesn't seem this is the case though.

No matter the brand the chemical (Sertraline) would be the same. There could be some differences in the nonmedicinal ingredients that makeup the coating or capsule such as different dyes and different starches, gelatin, and chemicals.
