I'm too scared of endoscopy side effects, should I still do it ?

Hello,
I'm new to the forums but I've been reading a lot of discussions about this subject but I can't shake the feeling that something might go wrong during the procedure or after!
I'm a 21 years old female (I live in France) and I've never had this procedure done before but I've been feeling sick for at least 6 months (it all started back in beginning of July after I vomitted violently in the morning because I ate too fast and I was scared for an exam) and I immediately felt my throat was burning and I started having trouble breathing. I've done many tests for my lungs since that day and they all were normal. So I started to think that it might have something to do with the oesophagus and reflux.
My symptoms are:
-sometimes pain on the right side of the upper chest (associated with a pain in my back but not always)
-difficulty filling my lungs with air as if I had asthma
- reflux (not always acid, sometimes it's just what I eat that makes its way back up)
- hiccups and burps everytime I eat or drink something
-chest tightening after eating and when I wake up in the morning
My doctor sayed it would be better for me if I did the endoscopy so I said I would do it and I also chose the local anesthatic over the general anesthesia because I want to be aware of what happens and also because I would like to be able to resume working right after.
I've done a lot of research and what scares me the most about the endoscopy isn't the procedure itself but rather the side effects that may potentially result from it. I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but I can't help being terrified that these will happen to me:
-allergic reaction to the local anesthetic product
-heart issues (I'm not sure why this can happen!)
-breathing issues
-I'm also scared of choking with my saliva when my throat will be numbed
-coughing blood in the days after the procedure
-infections
-throat ache and not being able to swallow normally anymore
-irritation of my oesophagus or even perforation in the worst case scenario
Does anyone know what might cause these potential side effects and who are the people who are the most at risk ?
Is it common to see appeat some side effects even days or weeks after the procedure ? Does the anesthesia have an effect on the heart (heart rate for example) ?
Thanks!

Are you having sedation or non sedation?
Have you had a scope in the past since you say that you had GERD for 2 years.
Do you cough a lot and what meds do you take to control it?
I am having mine the next day Mar 1 but I will get sedated don't want to feel any discomfort
I am a bit nervous... I want to see why I am still coughing after a year. I use to have nausea very bad but it has finally subsided after 14 months. I did have Hpylori when it first started. I also take Prevacid but it doesn't help why I cough so much
Please reply after your scope to let us know how it went!

Why were you so terrified and thought you were going to die?
It is a fairly common procedure, I am just a little nervous cause it's about the unknown.
Did your dr not give you reassurance?

Don't worry too much about it, I also kept thinking that something was going to go wrong and that I would probably die from it but it's impossible. You say you've been suffering for 2 years so I believe it is worth doing it. Everything will be fine, there are millions of people who do it every day and nothing happens to them.

I spoke to my GP he told me it's not a scary procedure and he says either sedation or not if I am very anxious .... I'm not just not sure which way I want to do it .
I'm coughing a lot so that is my concern if I cough and gag will the GI be able to get clear views or biopsies.
My biggest thing is the numbing of the throat if I do it without the feeling is like you can't breathe so then I will tense up.
There are so many different opinions on the procedure. You have to do what you feel best.
What might be good for one will not be for the other .
I plan on waiting until I go for the procedure I will talk to the nurse and weigh out the pros and cons then decide.
As for cancer dr's will look for the worse scenio first then go to most common.
Plus you would get worse not the way you describe.
So please try to chill and think happy things. Funny your having it the day before me Feb 29th so would love to hear how you did the day you come home.
I know people that had cancer you don't have anything close to what they went through.
All will be fine

In any case, the doctors should guide you through your procedure in order to make it as comfortable as possible for both you and them. And you seem to have nice doctors so I'm sure everything will be fine!

If I get sedation I will ask for a small amount so I am totally relaxed yet aware too.
Yes my specialist and GP both support me in the way I feel I want 🙏
