Now the blisters have cleared up I'm finding that I'm very irritated around my vagina area, it's very itchy and causing me discomfort. Also I can not settle down at night so it stopping me from having a good nights sleep! Does anyone no if this is still part of the Herpes? And when will it stop?!?

    Hi,

I'm just curious if the itching stopped on its own and how long it took? I finaihed my valtrex this past Thursday and this Saturday the itching started same problem and I've literally tried everything and can't sleep at night. Thanks.

Yes! And when I lay down its worse. Does this typically happen when sores are healed??

Yes, itching is associated with herpes for sure (both during healing and prodrome/possible shedding), but to varying degrees for different people. Try as hard as you can not to scratch, because once you scratch, it usually becomes a vicious circle (think hives and mozzie bites). Is the itching on the outside or at the vaginal opening? Any discharge? If not related to a vaginal infection, it will pass.

Itching is on the outside and at the anus it looks like hemorroids. There is no smell and discharge. Also, it still is swollen. How long you think the itching will persist? It also feels like my skin is crawling down there.

At least it doesn't sound like you have a secondary infection going on down there. It's really hard to say when it will pass, as each person is different. For example, I only had mild itching with my first outbreak (3-4 days?), and a bout of moderate but persistent itching in one spot a couple of weeks ago (overnight only, but I managed to scratch myself raw through my panties in that one spot!). A new infection takes a while for your body to adjust. I would imagine it should pass or lessen before the end of this week.

Yeah, it just sucks because I can't focus. On top of it the Gyno didn't get enough sample for the swab test and my blood tests came back negative but I know it takes a while before it enters your blood stream. But both doctors I went to said definitely herpes from the look of it and the symptoms. I noticed this since Feb 4th Is it normal to have a fissure on the anus after sores have healed? Sorry I'm asking so many questions. I really appreciate the help.

It's certainly possible. I have had two anal fissures since my first outbreak. First one bled a little, which freaked me out. Second one I'm currently experiencing right now. Didn't bleed, and I can't see anything, but it hurts a little to wipe. Had no anal fissures during my first outbreak. In terms of timing, it's possible, especially if you've been scratching.

That sucks your doctor couldn't get a good swab. Or was it too late into your outbreak? Older lesions aren't reliable if swab testing by viral culture. I always advise people to get a pcr swab if possible. Much more sensitive and accurate regardless. In fact, given that you're itching so much and recently had a first outbreak, I bet an internal pcr swab would still detect it, as you're likely shedding.

HSV doesn't enter the blood stream, not unless you're immunocompromised and have disseminated HSV disease, which is uncommon and serious. You do develop antibodies to the virus, however, and these are found in the blood (probably what you meant) and can be tested (IgG, not IgM), ideally at 3+ months, but probably at 6-8 weeks (if negative, I'd retest at 3 months).
