I think I have kidney disease and I'm terrified.

Hi I am new here. I think I might have kidney disease. I didn't get diagnosed with it yet though. I am going to first go to my primary care doctor and get them to take a urine sample and blood tests and other tests if they need to. Some of the symptoms i have are dark colored urine. It looks like amber colored most of the time. And i have noticed small bubbles in my urine once so far. I go to the bathroom like 6 or 7 times per day which i believe is normal. Then i also have like some skin on my foot that turned brown. And then a little of it turned yellow too. I think its called increased skin pigmentation. I also just started getting these muscle twitches. Then sometimes i get diarrhea but not every day. Just like probably once or twice a week. I dont vomit at all and i dont' ever feel nauseous. I also started to notice that I bruise more easily. I am not tired at all as long as I get enough sleep. I ususally sleep for 8 hours and 30 minutes to 9 hours, which is normal I think. I don't feel weak and I still have enough energy to do the things that I need to do every day. Sometimes I get headaches but not every week. Maybe like once every other week and some weeks i don't get headaches at all. So i am very worried and scared about going to the doctor. Because I am afraid they are going to tell me that they think I have kidney disease. Do you all have any of those symptoms? If so what stage of kidney disease did you get those symptoms at? I am just so scared that I could be at stage 4 or 5 already and not even know it. I just found out I have high blood pressure too, but I didn't know i had it so it has never been treated before. I am going to get blood pressure medicine at the doctor too. I will just be really depressed if I really do have kidney disease in addition to high blood pressure.

At the dentist?  My dentist also takes blood pressure (which I think is silly to have your blood pressure taken by someone who is trained to clean your teeth, there just is no training or relationship).  That said, they have been doing it for years.  And every time they sound the alarm that my pressure is too high. They take it with one of those $20.00 units you put on your wrist.  They pay no attention that you should always be in a relaxed atmosphere and for at least 5 minutes at rest in a sitting position with your feet flat on the floor.  They take it when you have been basically laying down while getting your teeth cleaned!!  Then I go to my primary care physician and he is in love with my blood pressure.  And he has me take it at home for five consecutive days, 3 times a day, before my visit to him, and bring him the numbers.  Check it yourself under proper conditions, not at  a dentist!

Yes the dentist said they needed to make sure my blood pressure wasn't too high before they put the shot in my mouth. I was supposed to get a crown put on my tooth. So they said that they were not able to do the dental work on me because they aren't allowed to put the shot in a persons mouth to numb it if they have high blood pressure. According to my dentist the shot that numbs my mouth could make my blood pressure go even higher, which could cause me to have a heart attack or a stroke. And the dentist said he could lose his license if something happened to me while they were doing the dental work on me. So that's why they took my blood pressure. I bet my blood pressure will be very high when i go to the doctor too because my anxiety gets very bad and i get so nervous at the doctors. So it's going to be bad there just like it was at the dentist. And i didn't realize that my blood pressure might not be accurate when they take it while i'm lying down. I also didn't know that i had to be flat on my feet while they take it. But i will try taking it at home after i get a blood pressure monitor and see what it says.

there are also many pharmacies that have free access to blood pressure "machines" to check your pressure, if for some reason you find to buy one is too expensive for you.

Yes i have seen CVS and Walgreens here that have blood pressure machines. I think they cost money to use them though. But i know they are probably cheaper than buying one. I could probably afford to buy one to use at home though.

      Hi Megan

Buy one right away.  The whole point is to use it at home to see what your BP is in a quiet situation.  Quite possibly you may find that you do not normally have high BP!

Yes buy one if you can afford.  They are not terribly expensive.  Some can be with such features as automatic tracking, keeping track of more than one person, etc.  But all things a pencil and paper can do.  Just buy a name brand that simply takes your pressure.  Until then the ones at CVS and Walgreens are free to use.

Oh i never knew that the ones at CVS and Walgreens were free. I thought they cost like 50 cents to use or something like that. Maybe not though. I will check them out and see. And someone on my post actually did give me a link to a good blood pressure monitor to buy. so maybe i should buy that one cause i think it was only 25 dollars. That's not too bad.

Yes i will probably buy this one online that someone on this post sent me the link to. i think it was you who sent me the link for that blood pressure monitor on amazon. or it was someone else who replied to me.

Oh it must have been someone else that i was talking to on this post that gave me the link for the blood pressure monitor. But yes i will check the reviews for it on amazon and see what people say about it. Thanks for the advice.

So, it's been 9 days since you made this post, in that time many people have tried suggesting you go to the Dr and get labs done. Is it possible for you to go to a media station or walk in clinic? Any Dr can take a BP reading and draw blood. At least you will know if you are sick or suffering from anxiety.

You can later find the best Dr in town that accepts your insurance to treat you. How old did you say you are?

Yes I can go to a walk in clinic if they accept my insurance. I guess i can look online for one that will accept my insurance. And yes that's true. I know i could just find a good doctor to treat me later on if I need to. I guess I am just also scared to find out too. And i am scared to do the blood tests too because I have a feeling that it will turn out really badly. But yes I realize that it's smart to go to the doctor as soon as I can because if I do have kidney disease then maybe I would be able to slow down the progression of it.

Oh and i forgot to answer your other question on my post. I am 30.

have you got a drs appointment yet? just everyone seems to be telling you about their kidney failure and youre asking questions but I dont see the point unless you have been diagnosed
    • Posted

Yes i have an appointment. It is in about 3 weeks. But i am trying to see if i can get an earlier appointment with another doctor. And i don't know why it's wrong of me to ask people about kidney disease since I am pretty sure that I have it. At least I can learn about it if I do end up having it. I mean i have alot of those symptoms that people with kidney disease have so I would bet that i have it. I don't know what else it would be except for kidney disease. Unless it's something else like cancer. And yes I know i can't diagnose myself since I'm not a doctor. I just didn't have anyone else to talk to about it so that's why i posted here. I didn't tell my parents that i think i have it. i would only tell them if i do end up having it. I guess I just wanted to learn more about it. Maybe you think i am wasting my time. But if I am right about having it then I guess i didn't waste my time.

But you dont have any symptoms that WE have....

      The people with kidney disease!

None of us have tea coloured urine!

Oh i see what you mean now. yes i guess i must not have alot of the symptoms that you all have. Since i don't feel sick or tired at all. But i did read that some people who have kidney disease might not start feeling sick or tired until they get to stage 5. So i dont know. i guess it's possible that i could still have kidney disease and just not feel sick or tired or weak yet. Cause maybe i'm in stage 3 or something. But did you read my other reply to you on here? i said that on that national kidney center website it lists all the symptoms that i have. And i was reading on another website that not everyone will have the same symptoms. It was saying that each person is different. So some people might have muscle twitching and others might not. Or other people could vomit alot and others may not. That's what i was reading online. I am not sure how true those websites are but i would bet at least a few of them are pretty accurate. And I did read online that tea colored urine either means that a person is dehydrated or they could have kidney disease or liver disease. And it also said that some people who have cancer can have tea colored urine too. but ya alot of those websites do list tea colored urine as a possible symptom of kidney disease. I will let you all know what the doctor says though.

OR MORE THAN LIKELY YOU HAVEN'T GOT CKD! SO WHY DONT YOU WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN A PROFESSIONAL frown

    • Posted

Well i do have some of the symptoms of it though. Because according to some of the websites all of the symptoms i am having are symptoms of kidney disease. So that's why i get worried when i read those websites. But like i said if I don't end up having it i will apologize for making this post. There is a chance that i could though because i am overweight. I didn't mention that yet cause i don't like to talk about it. And i realize that not everyone who is overweight gets kidney disease. But it's a higher chance for someone who is over weight to get it.
