Hello,

I have put a few posts on here & tried LOTS of different medications for depression, anxiety & tension migrane headaches.

The latest one is venlafaxine 75MG

Please can anyone tell me how they are getting on with this drug. Side effects, how effective & if it may have helped at all. Anything i need all the help i can get.

As we all know it's very scary strating a new drug & feeling so low & desperate to start with.

Please help if you can

    Hi Butterfly,

Venalafine was the second anti-depressant I tried (I did Citalopram for a couple of years which took the edge off my PND but didn't do much else) - V on the other hand has been fantastic - I've been on 75mg twice daily for three years now and am in the process of coming off it gradually as I think it has done its job. I think I started on 75mg a day and that didn't do an awful lot so after six weeks (which is when my Dr said I should have been feeling the benefit) we upped it to 2 x 75mg...I then started to feel the benefit and although I could still feel that the depression was there in the background I was much calmer overall and better able to cope with it. I've put on a bit of weight but I'm trying not to care about that as it's not important in comparison to my mental wellbeing. The only other side effect I get is a slight buzzing or spacing in my head if I take my tablet a bit late. Coming off it isn't easy - the withdrawal systems can be quite harsh if you don't do it slowly but that's for another time.

I wish you all the best and hope that it kicks in for you soon - I also use a few aromatherapy things like a bit of lavendar oil on my pillow at night (I tend to get most anxious when I'm trying to get to sleep), deep breathing (count in for 4 and out for 4) and have used Bachs Rescue Melts (but they are very pricey for what they are.)

    Love,

    Tessa.

    Thanks everyone,

Yes i do have a lavender plug in & put some drops of oil also on my pillow at night, but even that doesn't help anymore.

Ah well day 3 of this new tablet & i have a banging head, but do feel a little calmer already. Can this really be after only 3 days or is it in my mind?  x

Hi there, Hope you are up to humour .......but its all in the mind anyway .....seriously though I am glad you feel calmer maybe all these chats help to pass the time till the pills really do kick in. Positive thoughts are the greatest healer.

    Hi Butterfy!

So glad that you are feeling better, for whatever reason.

I understand that if you are low enough, these med.s can work faster than they do for the average person with depression.

    Anyway, what does it matter?!!

If you are feeling better - then you are!  And that's just great!

    Keep at it!

    LOL xx
