I've only had 1 sexual partner my whole life and I tested positive for genital herpes but he didn't.

About a month ago I rushed myself to urgent care due to swelling on my vaginal opening and pain whenever I used the bathroom, walked, or even when I would sit down. The doctor examined me, took some culture swabs and told me it looks like I had folliculitis caused from shaving, a bacterial infection, and also 2 sores that look like herpes. When she mentioned herpes a wave of emotions ran through my head, how could I have herpes when I've only had one sexual partner in my whole 22 years of life?!

I told my longterm boyfriend the results and at first he was very supportive. We've been together since we were 16 and he was my first everything, so if I got herpes it was only right that I would assume I got it from him, right? wrong. I went to my follow up appointments, got my blood drawn and when the results came in I got a call that I had genital herpes and that was that. Immediately I was floored, devastated, and like my whole world collapsed. I urged my boyfriend to get tested immediately and he did. When he got his results and it came back negative, I couldn't understand how this could happen to me. When he tested negative that's when things started to change, he started doubting my sexual history, insulting my character and bringing me down for something I don't even have a clue how I got. He has cheated on me before and I know he was had other partners in the past other than me. I was a virgin when I met him and I've never slept with anyone since him.

Now all I ask, is there a way that his results could've been a mistake? he's getting tested again but his doctor claims he's clean, at least that's what he proclaims to me. or is there some explanation as to how I got herpes and he didn't when he has actively sleeping around and I haven't?

Hi there. I'm in the same boat. I got tested positive for HSV 2 with a result of 1.91 and I have only been with my ex-husband. He tested negative for it with the same test, yet he is the one who cheated. How is this possible? I keep telling myself that maybe his body had not produced enough antibodies yet at the time of testing. I am desperate for answers as we are fighting custody of our two young children. Please, is there anyone out there that has answers.

If you have pre-existing HSV1 (whether with or without previous symptoms), that can cause the HerpeSelect test for HSV2 to show a low false positive.
