I want to hear the results you have had from aquablation.

I'm 58 years old and very sexually active After many years of BPH symptoms and chronic prostatitis my urologist has recommended aquablation.

I've read many post aquablation posts here but they are mostly from the first days of recovery. I'd like to hear from men who are completely recovered from the procedure.

I'm mostly concerned about ejaculatory function and urine flow after full recovery from aquablation.

Thank you for your help

Probably it is new, rarely having people report the results after one year the aquablation. Hopefully more people can update their symptoms one or more years after the aquablation.

Yes, that would be helpful. While its good to know what to expect right after the procedure, I think the most important information is the result after recovery is complete

You can Google 5-Year Outcomes for Aquablation, but the rate of ejaculatory disfunction for Aquablation is pretty low, about 7%, I believe. I have not had any problems.

I am almost 7-months post-surgery. I pee ok, but nothing to brag about. I may have some scar tissue that needs to be dealt with and will find out in April.

BTW, I saw another one of your posts where you mentioned that you might go crazy if you had to wait 6-weeks for sex. My doctor gave the greenlight after 3 weeks. I waited a couple of extra days and then went ahead. The result was a lot of bleeding and I can't help but wonder if it caused some of the scar tissue. I know it sucks but I would recommend waiting at least a month for sex.

Thank you for your reply. I have looked up the statistics on ejaculation with aquablation but I'd like to hear real world experiences like yours. I'm glad you are ejaculating well. Have you noticed any difference in the sensations you feel during sex? How does your semen volume compare to before the procedure? I hope your slow stream will be figured out and corrected. For me the wait time between urologist appointments is awful. I like to get things done quickly. I hate waiting.

I have not noticed any difference in sensation or semen volume. Full disclosure, I have kids still at home and based on your description I don't think I am having nearly as much sex as you.

It's also very tough to see a urologist where I live.

Thank you for your reply. For my situation it seems like a no-brainer to have the aquablation if there is little risk of side effects. I'm glad to hear that your sexual function is normal.

Currently have three adult children at home but that doesn't stop us from having sex 4-5 times per week.

Blair. Just came back from a 4 month chevk up for my Aquablation preformed in October 2022.

My recovery was not too bad as I remained in the hospital for 4 days do to an high temperture and my doctor likes me and made sure the insurance company would pay everything. He made it look like my bleeding was bad and pain etc. With all the flushing that i had as well as great nurses, there was no blood at all after release.

Now to your concerns, I def have ED and RE, though im quite a bit older than you and I expected this.

My doctor said guys that have a real concern should postpone as long as you can. He is the top Urolisgist in San Francisco. His team also agrees on this. This means to me ED/RE is a concern to them for their patients.

He has 2 scheduled this Friday and 5 more next week. This procedure works, but ask your doctor lots of questions.

Thank you for your reply. How severe is the ED and why did you expect it? Did you have any problems with ED before aquablation? How old are you?

  • Edited

For a 70 year old, not too bad.

ED was and on and off issue before the procedure.

More difficult since the Aquabation, but doctor def talked to me about this issue.

I was in 100% retention, so wearing a bag was the only option for ever as my doctor suggested this route as opposed to the other treatments.

No matter what procedure you get, forget about 'hitting' the beds headboard. The catherter will expand the uretha so 'blasting' it out might take, for someone your age, a good 8 months healing according to my doctor. Many of his clients are your age and younger.

Thank you for your reply. I'm making a list of questions to ask my doctor on my next visit. The list is now at 18. Do you have no semen coming out or does it just dribble out?

Do you know how large your prostate was?

I believe it was an 85 or there abouts.

Actully I've noticed improvement is hardness and volume in the past week, but still not 'hitting' the ceiling by a long shot. Those were the days!!!!

So being able to travel to Europe every few months like the old days again, I'm quite satisfied.

I forgot to mention that urine flow is back to a normal 40 year old. It sometimes splatters a bit but my doctor said possibly the bladder is not quite full enough for a forceful stream. I have a great doctor.

I have the standard diagnostics tests four weeks from today. Urine flow, bladder pressure, residual volume, transrectal ultrasound to measure prostate size and a cystoscopy. These tests will help decide whether or not I have the procedure. There's a chance I might learn my condition doesn't warrant it yet but I think it will say that its time, based on my symptoms. I have also had prostatitis two or more times per year fir the past fifteen years. My urologist thinks its due to high bladder pressure forcing urine into the prostate in places it doesn't belong. He thinks opening up the passage to allow better flow is the only way past the prostatitis. He thinks aquablation would be the most effective treatment. If the tests indicate my BPH is as bad or worse than I think it is then I'll probably get it done as soon as possible. After asking all my questions. It would also be nice to not have to pee so often.

It hasn't been measured yet but I'd guess my prostate is in the 50-60 range.

I hope your condition continues yo improve and i hope if I have it done I won't have sexual side effects.

Can you get hard enough for sex? Do you use ED meds?

well that's determined on the circumstances a the moment. And no to the ED meds.

Ask away. And ask your doctor how many of these procedures he/she has done.

When I was wheeled into the operating room, there were 4 other very interested men(doctors I supposed) to watch. And just last month on my Anthem Blue cross bill was a 7grand charge for 'observational study' WTF.

Total billing was $88,000.00. All covered. Remember I was in hospital for 4 days.

I would certainly suggest trying Viagra or Cialis. I don't really need it for ED but I've taken 5mg Cialis daily for BPH. I certainly think it helps things along. Since 5mg is a really small dose I often add 50mg Viagra as well before sex. Like I said, it's not necessary but its fun because it makes my penis pop up really fast and stay really hard. Its generic and cheap now so I definitely think its worth it.

I'm going to be asking a lot of questions before I go ahead with it.

How ling were you told to wait before having sex?

I had a few basic questions about the procedure so I called and talked to his surgical nurse. It seems his routine is different from most of what I've read. She said it varies by patient of course but generally his patients leave the hospital the same day with a catheter and that the catheter would stay in for about seven days then a home health nurse would come and take it out. That's a long time with the catheter. She said after about ten days you can go back to regular activities and sex but its about 8 weeks to be mostly healed.

I think under no circumstances should they discharge you the same day.

You really need to make that clear or find a new doctor. Also if you have the procedure have it done early in the morning so you have at least 28 hours to recover.

Mine was performed around 8am and I was discharged 2pm the next day.

The hospital really wanted me out at 11am but my ride wasnt coming until 2pm. They even said they would call a taxi even though early I was told you need to be personally pickup. Hospitals suck.

The pain with urinating with the catherter was quite bad while in the hospital. I was given vicodin which helped a bit. My doctor said it was bladder spasms, horrible. After a week out that pain eased

Make sure you get your doctor to give you a prescription for Percocet or Vicodin at least 10mg and at least 10 pills. Be prepared.
