Have you had a pill camera to look for Crohns of the upper digestive tract?  Was microscopic colitis tested for?

Hi no he only done the very start of my bowel unsure what it’s called but the camera didn’t go all the way

A sigmoidoscopy examines the tail end of the bowel (sigmoid colon). Was this the examination you had?  A colonoscopy examines all of the colon.  Ask for a full colonoscopy.   If the camera dodn’t go all the way and only the start of your bowel was examined, this means areas have been missed out that could provide the answers to your high fecal calprotectin result.

Yes I had a just the tail end looked at, unfortunately my gastroenterologist is set on severe ibs but my own GP isn’t convinced due to high F.C.

You need to possibly look at your diet, For example Bread can introduce fibre as can potatoes, Look into various diets that can introduce fibre into your Diet. There are several diets you can try, your GP can advise  or the Specialist may be able to help you. An introduction of various test may help to rule out various conditions you may think you have

Are you still seeing your Specialist ?

Yes I just got out hospital yesterday they still can’t explain my fecal Calprotectin of >600 is what’s bothering me

You need to discuss your concerns either with your Specialist or if you have been discharged your GP needs to know you are concerned with your results.

You need to put your Mind to rest

I'm having the same problem. I've had chronic diarrhoea since Christmas. They said ibs but my fecal calprotectin came back at 90 so I've been referred but I'm still waiting on the appointment. It's been 4 weeks since they referred me. I now live on imodium. My diarrhoea is worst on the morning.

A fecal calprotectin of 90 sounds low.  A level of 250 and above is considered high.

Yes compared to others is seems minor. Anything over 50 is concerned high. That doesn't really concern me as lots of things can make it elevate. It's more my pancreas that worries me.

Ask for pancreatic enzyme tests such as lipase, amylase and elastase.

Had amylase and that was fine. Will ask for the others.

Hi sezza...Apart from stoll calprotectin did they check for stool routine micro and Stool culture for bacteria or parasite?

Hi. I've had a bacterial one which was fine. Then the fecal calprotectin one. No other ones. I had to push for the calprotectin one. I've been suffering since Christmas and I've had 2 blood tests and the 2 stool ones. They only referred me because it came back high on the calprotectin one, not very high but enough for them to listen. That was after nearly 2 months of begging them to do more tests, they just gave me antidepressants at first and huffed if I went back. I asked for more stool tests and the GP said they've done all they can do and to just wait for the gastro appointment.

Yeah gastero can evaluate further...well In stool routine micro they see for any mucus or occult blood or white blood cells and in culture they check for any bacteria or parasite...any inflammatory process can increase calprotectin and you need to be evaluated further by gasteroenterologist...As pippa said 90 is not that high level to worry but on a safer side you should be evaluated...Diarrhea is very common with IBS and antidepressants will help to relieve anxiety and so some of the symptoms of IBS...you can have high mucus in your stool routine micro if you have IBS...Don't get stressed and just relax and meet your Gastero specialist..That will help you in your symptoms if that is due to anxiety and IBSbiggrin

Aww thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, can't wait to get my appointment through. My anxiety is calmer ok the antidepressants. I didn't want to go on them but at this stage I did need them. The imodium works OK for now. Thank you again
