Implant & Weight Gain.. Help???

Posted , 55 users are following.

I'm 24 and I am on my second Contraseptive Implant the first implant i had for 3 years never really caused any trouble I was stilll energetic,I manintianed a healthy weight and my mood swings were managebale... until the last few months, i expected this though as the implant was due to be renewed.

So I thought getting the implant for a second time would be a piece of cake (mmmm cake!)....Boy was I wrong!!!!!!

I had my second implant inserted 4 1/2 months ago and since then I have gained 24lb (10.8KG) no matter how much exercise or healthy eating i do the weight will not shift! I am constantly tired, my skin in spotty and dry, My sex drive...pfffft! what sex drive?? my hair is thining, my mood swings are ridiculous and because of this i hate myself.

I find it astonishing that such a small thing can make such an impact on my life.

I have been to the doctors and had a full MOT everything else internally is fine (apart from my weight) so my GP & I have both agreed that it is best that the impant be removed as it's the only possible cause of all of this..

How long will it take to get back to normal & lose weight once the implant is removed?

Has anyone else suffered with these side effects?

Will this weight ever go away (of course i will work hard)?

Am I a crazy chick?

Thanks in advance for any advice xxx

    Hi,

I've had the implant in for nearly 2 years. Before it kicked in i was 9 stone 4 and then about a year after it had been in my periods started again and i started eating more and my moods became awful. Since last September when the implant kicked in i have gained nearly 3 stone and I've tried dieting and it wont budge. Its making me depressed and i believe me partner will leave me due to becoming heavier. Whats the best solution?

    Thanks Meagan x

      Hi.

My bleeding has been very irregular like every two weeks or less. Im going to have it removed but i don't know what other contraceptive i could have that wouldn't make me gain weight. I've tried the pill and that had an awful affect I've tried 3 of them.

Hi. Wow every two weeks thats crazy! Mine has been about every 10 weeks but lasting around 10 days and the pain has been worse. Its also the tired feeling, spots, greasy hair and skin etc. One of my friends has had it in for nearly 3 years and hasnt bled once! I just dont like knowing when you might start bleeding, Id rather have a normal light bleed every 4 weeks! The weight gain and bloated feeling is the worst bit. The best thing about it was that its in your arm and you can forget about it! Im going to have a break from everything and see if I feel any better, then have a think what to try next. Are you in the uk? I used to be on a pill called Yasmin and that was great, I lost weight on that and everything! Or what about a coil?

      Hi.

Its awful not knowing when im gonna come on. I have a day without a period after been on and then i come on again. Its awful and keeping me from social life. I've tried yasmin and combo pill and the mini pill. All had bad side affects. I think i might try the injection next.

      Hi,

Yes it is.  I like  a normal routine with it.  Yes try something else that might just work for you, maybe the coil too?  Its hard because what suits one may not suit another and its a pain getting something sorted.  I am getting mine removed on Friday and see who I feel after that.

Hope you will be ok x

Hey girls. I'm on my second implant (implanon) it's my 5th year now but can remember the last time I felt normal and like myself. I'm always tired And drained. I also always suffer with bad stomach pains and bloating did anyone else have this? I'm also the same and in the 5 years I've put on just over 5stone and no matter what I do I can't seem to shift it. I also lost loads of hair and my hair is now really thin. I want to get the implant taken out but was reading online about loads of people who also suffered bad with side effects after they had it removed. Just wondering if any of you girls who have had it taken out have suffered any side effects and how long did they last xx

      Hi,

I was on Nexplanon for 6 months and put on 2 stone so I have now come off this and do feel better for it apart from that I haven't had a period yet so will feel better once my body gets back to normal. I was tried and drained all the time too. I have had no side effects from coming off it at all, apart from waiting for my period to start to get my body back to normal.  Hope that helps.

Hi all, I'm on my 3rd implanon over the years having a child in between. In January my 3rd bar was due out and it had disappeared I've been cut open twice and had 2 scans to no avail.

I was put into the pill as my doctor said its stops working within a week or two of the 3 year mark. I've put on nearly 3 stone and I feel like I'm going insane, I've stopped talking to most of my friends due to depression and the fact I'm so big I feel ugly. I'm due back in hospital Thursday to see what will be done .

Has this ever happened to anyone and do they feel the pill could be a big part in the weight gain.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi Ladies!

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I'm on the depo injection and have put on just under 3 stone in 3 years despite horse riding 6 days a week, pole dancing once a week, cheerleading twice a week and going to te gym 4 times a week. I've tried all the diets including weight watchers and the body coaches 90 day SSS and it won't budge, must I add the non existent sex drive and I'm only 20!!. After looking on loads of forums and talking to people I think coming of Depo is best so I was looking for other contraception and after reading this I don't think the implant is for me, so thank you, it's saved a lot of problems!

what is everyone on now? And how are you finding it?

    Hi all

Thanks so much for all your posts. I have had the same trouble I am 43 alaways been size 8/10 and weigh about 9.5 stone I have gained 2 stone in just 3 months. I am very active and like to workout to extreme either running or HIT training and try to eat healthy most of the time but no matter what I do my stomach just keeps getting bigger and the scales are getting higher  :-( It is really getting me down. I have an appointment on Monday evening to get this removed and I can't wait and just hope the weight starts to come off again. I see that most of you noticed a change almost instantly? and weight loss within the 1st week. i hope this is the case for me. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi ladies,

The same thing happened to me, I used to be a toned size 8-10 girl until last April when I had the implant done. In the first 3 months I put on 2.3st (15kg) (The doctor told me In first place that if I want it to be removed I have to wait at least 3 months). As I was pretty busy with moving and working I had to wait one more month to be able to have it taken out. So overall in 4 months from a size 8-10 I got to 16! with an extra 3.2st (20kg)... I'm extremely upset. When I see myself on recent picture it looks like I'm seeing someone else... My confidence has gone. Worst ever decision I have made in my life is to have that thing implanted in my body.

I'll get back here in a month or two and let you guys know how my weight is going.

    xxx
