Implant & Weight Gain.. Help???

Posted , 55 users are following.

I'm 24 and I am on my second Contraseptive Implant the first implant i had for 3 years never really caused any trouble I was stilll energetic,I manintianed a healthy weight and my mood swings were managebale... until the last few months, i expected this though as the implant was due to be renewed.

So I thought getting the implant for a second time would be a piece of cake (mmmm cake!)....Boy was I wrong!!!!!!

I had my second implant inserted 4 1/2 months ago and since then I have gained 24lb (10.8KG) no matter how much exercise or healthy eating i do the weight will not shift! I am constantly tired, my skin in spotty and dry, My sex drive...pfffft! what sex drive?? my hair is thining, my mood swings are ridiculous and because of this i hate myself.

I find it astonishing that such a small thing can make such an impact on my life.

I have been to the doctors and had a full MOT everything else internally is fine (apart from my weight) so my GP & I have both agreed that it is best that the impant be removed as it's the only possible cause of all of this..

How long will it take to get back to normal & lose weight once the implant is removed?

Has anyone else suffered with these side effects?

Will this weight ever go away (of course i will work hard)?

Am I a crazy chick?

Thanks in advance for any advice xxx

Hi I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one suffering with weight gain from the implant! I had my daughter in March 2014 and lost the 2 stone in baby weight by July August! Then in September 2015 I had an implant and have since gained 2 and 1/2 stone and I literally look like I'm 6/7 months pregnant.. All the weight has gone to my stomach b and thighs and I've always been a small 8/10 even after having 2 children! Some people tell me it's my life style but no matter how much I exercise I loose nothing and keep gaining! Defo going to have this taken out of my arm and try something else! Can I ask how's your weight loss now you've had it removed? Zara smile

    Hi Lauren,

I feel your frustration! I had it inserted last December because I was sick of taking the pill. I'm 41 by the way. Always thin and now bigger than I have ever been! Coincidence? I think not!

This is terrible. I have empathy for those that struggle with their weight. It definitely takes a toll on you even if you act like it's no big deal. It is most certainly a big deal to me.

I'm going to give some serious thought to having it removed and have my significant other get snipped. Tired of this nonsense!

Good luck to you fellow female!

      Hey girls

After having my implant in for

5 months and constantly putting on weight, having such bad moods I had to take anti depressants I finally had it removed this morning !

Not sure why but expected to jump out of the room after them taking it out back to myself but nothing has changed yet (obviously expecting it too quick )

I'll keep you all posted as to how if any of my symptoms change

      Fingers crossed though

    Hi all,

I am in the exact same position as everyone else, and I am so glad I came across this discussion forum.

I first got the implant in when i was 18, I was a size 8/10 and around 9 stone, I never had trouble with my weight ....then got the implant in, I am now onto my second implant and i am now 24 and over 12 stone. so have put on 3 stone in weight with the implant. no matter how much i exercise and eat healthy i just cannot shift any weight and it is so demotivating. I am very body conscious now, I am due to get the implant out on March 22thh of this month, and i am counting down the days with excitement and relief to be getting it out of my body, I am just hoping I will lose the weight once I get it out.

Has anyone else lost weight after it has been removed and find it easier to do so with exercise and eating healthy, also what else can I go on that wont make me put on weight? the pill?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m 17. I got the implant when I was 15, I’ve had it for 2 years coming up 3 in October. Since having the implant I have become very self continuous, what I wear, going out, I have put so much weight on, I’ve tried not eating, alcohol and tried exercising. No results.  But I’m not sure if it’s jut generally my eating habits or the implant...If I get it took out will it help? And how long will it take?

      Hello

I’m 16 and only got the implant in February 2018 and I’ve put on 2/3 stone in just a matter of months... I’ve not changed my eating habits or anything. I also get extremely greasy hair and the occasional spot. But all I do is sleep. I’m homeschooled and I can’t even do that because I’m just constant tired. My anxiety levels have gone through the roof, and I’ve always been a confident person. But my body confidence has gone completely... I’m considering on getting the injection but I’m not sure.

Hi Maison, I had my implant removed about 2/3 weeks ago and already i feel its the best decision I have ever made. My tummy has seriously shrunk in size already and I am no longer bloated constantly. I thought I had anxiety and depression but a day or two after getting the implant out I feel way more happier, confident and content with myself. Even my partner notices big time the change in my mood/personality. I would seriously urge most women to get the implant removed if you feel it isnt working correctly with your body. Cant wait to see my body shrink in inches now with going to the gym as i was getting nowhere with the gym whilst on the implant. I have now been put on the microgynon pill, when i first got the implant i said it was because I was very forgetful with the pill but after being on the implant and seeing what it does mentally and physically to my body I will never forget the pill!! LOL I've just learnt to set my alarm for the morning to take it first thing. def get it out you will feel much better in yourself and in live seriously crazy how one little thing can chnage you so much smile x
