Hi I can probably help you here I worked on a vascular ward for 6 years so I know a bit about wounds. First question when you say it's weeping is it a constant ooze or is your dressing just soiled a bit? Is the dressing dry now where it has been weeping? If it is leave it it's fine. What colour is the exudate that's weeping. It's normal to be blood stained or clear in colour if it's yellow there is a chance it could be infected. Other signs of infection are swelling ( which you're going to get anyway) pain again you're going to expect this anyway. Now the important factor is redness around the wound if it's red and hot to touch and it's spreading further away from the wound there is a good chance you have an infection and you need to seek medical help ASAP. If you have redness around the wound draw a line where the redness ends and if the redness continues to go past this point it means it's getting worse. Hope this helps. If I could see it in person I would be able to tell you straight away X

If it smells bad, is a purulent color ie. Yelow/brown, accompanied with increase pink/red color and swelling then your doc needs to look at it.  It could be a staple that is pulling and causing a little drainage. If you don't have the above signs then scant drainage shouldn't be a biggie. Keep close eye on it! Good luck!

Hi there. If only a little, possibly nothing to worry about, but as Deb advised, ring the ward. You will find this forum a life saver, friends anytime when you need them and all in the same boat. Post any concerns and you will get replies with advice. I learnt very quickly not to compare my self to others, we all heal differently, but most of all don't be pushed into anything you aren't ready for. Good luck. Sue x

Hi, my dressing had a big black patch on it and I was dreading to see my knee when the dressing came off the day I got my staples out. I thought it was drenched with blood. Went to see nurse on the day and it was clean as anything. So, don't know what that was. If you're worried, like everyone else said, phone the ward and ask

It wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined. I had 28 staples and only 2 were a bit stinging when coming out and I walked out the nurse's office without my stick, she had to call me back for it lol 😁

Lol I think I'm a little dependent on my crutches atm unless I'm in the kitchen then I'm relying on the counter tops so I don't think I shall walk out without them

I have a new dressing until Thursday so still can't get it wet lol consultant said it's healing nicely I had sticky type stitches on the outside and a huge scar and he yanked the heck out of it with me screaming lol I would sooner have a tattoo there than have him yanking at those again in a hurry

Nope but I did tell him that I am not having my other knee done until after I get the rest of my leg tattoo done I need a well deserved break from surgical pain lol

I don't think he was too happy but I need time he said to me a while ago no tattoos for 6 months after surgery so that's long enough for my unfinished work I think need it completed

Well, I need my other knee done too but my surgeon likes a year in between thank God. I want a bit of normality before I do this again x
