So I have recently been diagnosed with having a little gastritis, which was brought on from taking two naproxen prescribed for a shoulder complaint. I immediately stopped taking it and have switched to just paracetamol and have been given omeprazole to help my stomach heal. I’m hoping that this will be a short term problem due to the fact that it’s not a chronic issue and was triggered by the naproxen. What I’m wondering is, it’s been 6 days since my first symptoms and I am still having some tummy issues. Today is the first day I feel like I have a little of my appetite back, yesterday I forced myself to eat chicken soup for lunch and dinner, but this morning I have had smashed avocado on toast and enjoyed it. What wondering is, will I have to watch what I eat for a considerable amount of time now? Or can I just go back to eating a normal diet straight away. I don’t have a really bad diet anyway, eat lots of fibre, protein, pasta, rice, veggies and fruit but I am missing my glass of wine. It says I should avoid alcohol? But doesn’t say for how long? Any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi sarah87543
Have bread but go gluten free also gluten free pasta i would leave rice out for while.. i don't know what country you are in but i am sure wherever you are there will be supermarkets that do gluten free foods. If your in UK there is a very popular supermarket..i don't think i can name it on the forum it may be moderated.....but this very popular supermarket sells 'free from' foods..free from gluten, wheat and milk. You can get a variety of bread, cake, pasta, biscuits, gravy granules and others. Just leave out oatmeal for brek and try lactofree milk on cereal.....and go caffeine free coffee and tea...it seems a big change but it will heal your digestive system.....do it for2-3 months and see how you get on. I did it but i never went back to my usual foods i eat all what i have recommended to you forever now and my digestive system is really good!!

Thank you for all your tips.
Just an update. I decided a week ago to stop taking omeprazole because it gave me even worse diarrhoea than I already have. I took it for only 6 days in the end. Following on from this I obviously had some rebound effects which were pretty horrible. I seem to experience the most pain in the centre of my back which radiates through my neck and shoulders. My body ached really really badly everywhere for around 4 days and it was very emotionally distressing but I ploughed I’m through it, just taking paracetamol every 4 hours. ( didn’t help the pain much I have to admit ) anyway, I went back to the doctors and they gave me peptac peppermint liquid and gave me some blood tests to check platelets, blood cells and liver ( not to sure why ) I have only used the peptac for 1 day and now 3 days later am managing my stomach problems with diet. A normal day starts with a banana, I tried oatmeal with unsweetened almond milk yesterday and it made me feel groggy so have bought the free from oats now so will try that. Then lunch I have been having 1 small price of wholemeal toast, avocado, eggs and salmon, soup or salad. And then dinner I have been having fish or chicken with vegetables and boiled potatoes which give me some satisfaction. I am still using salt but have reduced the amounts I use now. I am drinking only water and camomile and honey tea. I have activia but haven’t had them yet because of the dairy. ( little scared of a flare up so am sticking to food I know is ok at the moment ) I’m back to work next week after taking a whole week off due to this and think this will be good for me mentally as well. It’s actually worse being at home with negative thoughts constantly going around your mind thinking you’ll never get better. I have inIatial CBT appointment booked in for the 23rd November to help with the anxiety that I’m having since becoming ill. So hopefully I’ll be on the mend soon. I am no longer taking any medication as I think it’s actually made me worse. I’m guessing I will know that my stomach is healed when my stools become much more firmer. But at the moment I’m still obviously experiencing loose bowels and very loud stomach noises which suggest that my tummy is still not better.
Not to sure what specific probiotics to buy but am considering getting some soon.
Hope you are well.
Thanks again
Sarah

Hi sarah87543
So pleased that the changes you have made have brought some relief and you are back to work...i strongly advise the probiotics as soon as you can they will make a big difference to your gut flora..they did with me i have'nt looked back...regarding dairy try lacto and dairy free products and low salt products.. well known supermarkets have special sections in the store with these products ...and lastly the oatmeal will be too heavy as you said go lighter and oat free....my very, very best wishes to you sarah for helping yourself doctors can't eat for us so we must meet them halfway......x
