Insomnia After 4 Weeks On Mirt 30mg

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi All,

Having been on 30mg for 4 weeks now I'm starting to get insomnia. I haven't slept more than a few hopurs in the last 4 days and am beginning to get concerned about this as mirt is supposed to help you sleep. Has anyone else experienced this effect?

I've now dropped to 7.5mg last night and slept well. No advesrse reaction as yet although I do feel very slightly more anxious but I think that may well be me anticipating some sort of WD effect. My depression is still with me and unchanged. I need to get off of this and start another AD.

      Hi Staz

Ive looked back up the thread and can't figure out how long you have been on Mirt ??

Just a tiny, weeney word of caution, going under 5 mg can be hard for some, if you can contain yourself (!) hang on the the 7.5 mg for a week before dropping down again, as the last drop you did was 50%.

But we're all different and you could be one of the lucky few who get off it without too much trouble.  Keep in touch let us know how its going.

      Best wishes as always.

      Hi Calmer,

I've been on mirt since early Jan and pushed up to 30 from 15 for the last 6 weeks or so. I was on mirt last year for 4 months but gradually came off of it. I'm sticking with 7.5mg for a week as you suggest. No rush or prizes for doing it sooner is there.

I'm seeing the shrink monday and suspect I'll be given some other AD as the mirt seems to be so less effective this time around. At 15mg it pulled me around very quickly last year but this time it's not helping the depression at all at any dose. It is making me very sleepy now though and has worked on the anxiety. I'm just not shaking the depression at all.

      How are things with you?

Feeling bad this morning. Anxiety and very tearful. I hope this passes quickly.

I hope that it gets better soon, Staz. It does sound as though yoou may have made too big a cut. Normally, if you make a cut you may get a rough day or two around days 4 - 5, but it passes very quickly if it's going to. If it doesn't pass within a couple of days, the likelihood is the drop was too big and you need to reinstate at the dose you were stable on before the last drop and then make a smaller drop once you feel better.

      Hi Staz

My thoughts are the same as Evergreens', give it 2-3 days if not too uncomfortable/bearable, if not little step back, no prizes as you say, better to keep away from the ed nasties.

Anxiety & tearfulness are classic symptoms, am sorry you're going through this, look after and be kind to yourself.

You are right Evergreen. I'm reinstating 15 mg tonight and will attempt a slower decrease when I'm ready. Today has been uncomfortable to say the least.

Agree Calmer. I'm due to see the psychiatrist tomorrow and am hoping he can give me something to take alongside the mirt for depression then taper from the mirt gradually. I don't want to start another AD and abruptly end the mirt as that would be a double whammy to my already raw nerve endings.

Back to 15mg last night so slight improvement this morning. Off to see the Pdoc later.

Hope it goes well, be interesting to hear what he gives you to run alongside the Mirt.  I know you can take Prozak with it but not sure of what else.

      Hi Calmer,

Hmm. Pdoc has perscribed venlafaxine alongside 15 mg of mirt. Supposed to be a very effective combo but ven is difficult to get off of for some so i'm a bit unsure.

Right !  They call that California Rocket Fuel, I have no experience of it so I can't speak about it.  If you google it it may lead you back to this forum with a long thread, I'll try put it here but Moderator might take it off,  here goes:

Hi Staz been offline for a few days as husband managed to knock a glass of water all over my laptop😠

Hope you are doing a bit better - has adding to the mirt helped?

      Hi SSK,

I hope you are doing ok.

I've had to have an ECG before starting the Ven and mirt combo and I don't get the results until tomorrow.

I'm in a bit of a quandry tbh. I've manged to cut the mirt down to 7.5mg for the last 4 days and I'm feeling a lot better and doubting the need for the mirt / ven combo.I think the mirt had become part of the problem so don't want to take a 2nd line AD if I can help and it's not necessary especially as I developed tolerance to prozac and now mirt it would appear. I don't want to use ven then get tolerance to that as well if it's not absolutely necessary just in case I actually need it in the future.

Hi hope ECG results are OK.

My bloods came back with very iron levels which was what I expected and explains my itchiness.

I've upped my mirt to 30mg but really struggling. Since upping I've been having trouble sleeping again and feel more anxious and depressed. This morning I went to work but couldn't wait to get home and couldn't stop crying when I got home at lunchtime. I've been trying to get back to a normal routine but finding g that so hard to do at the moment to

      Hi SSK,

ECG all good but still in a quandry over what to do next with my meds. I dropped to 3.75mg for the last two days and no difference at all yet

Sorry to hear things not going so well for you. 30mg didn't work for me. I felt the same depression on all the doses of mirt. I'd go back to the dock and ask for a change of med if I were you.

      Much lovexx

Saw a GP today - not my usual doctor but she was very nice and my normal doctor will call when he is back in on Monday. I was actually at the GP with my husband but ended up having a panic attack whilst getting a prescription for him so was taken back into the surgery and given some diazepam to help me through until next week as she does not want to change the medication without speaking to my normal doctor.

Hope you are still managing on the lower dose x

      Hi SSK,

That's not good to hear. I've been given diazepam short term in the past and used it for up to a week without any WD so i hope it works for you and gets you to monday ok. Hopefully they will change your meds to something that agrees with you a bit more.

I'm on day 3 of the lower dose and sat here waiting for some sort of reaction to kick off but nothing as yet.

      xx
