I wake up easily during the night with any movement of my husband next to me. Then I cant go back to sleep no matter if it was only 2-3 or 4 hours that I actually slept. It is killing me. I cant take sleeping pills. Has anybody found any solution? I might have some mild OCD -intrusive thoughts disorder and I think I additionally tense up and worry that I wont fall asleep. I cant live lie this.

I feel your pain Just as I'm drifting off to sleep, if my husband moves I jump out my skin! It's like I get a fright. Last night it happened and my heart started racing to what felt like 500 beats a minute which was scary. I eventually got to sleep but had terrible nightmares. I'm going to the docs today to see what she says but I think it's just another peri menopause symptom for me. I started taking HRT a few months back and everything seemed to calm down, but I'm not liking this new symptom. The spare room suggestion is a good idea, or even the couch! I had to toddle off to the spare room a lot when my hot flushes and night sweats were bad and it really helped. Looks like I'll be heading back there.

Hi
I just thought i might share my experience over the last 4 years hoping that it may help other women with insomnia. Particularly getting to sleep.
I was 44 and one night just couldn't get to sleep. This continued and developed into CAD, Chronic Anxiety Disorder. My GP put me on antidepressants (not great) and finally sleeping tablets (which was really a last resort). This continued until over the years I have finally through years of trying found my remedy.
So ladies, we are all different but we need to shout at our GPs to get us to the right people. Don't leave your surgery until you have a referral to see a consultant at your hospital menopause clinic and here's the thing...... do not stop any follow ups until they have your meds right.
After 5 Years I am on HRT 25mg estrogen patches and the life saviour a HRT med called progestan (i take 200mg every night and apparently this can be increased). This makes you sleepy at night and basically changed my sleep overnight. Along with trying to exercise everday and read a book at night i am now back to my pre menopause self!
I am not saying that this is for all women all i am saying is that we women need to SHOUT until we get to see the right people who can help.
Best wishes to all who are tackling insomnia. I hope this helps someone.

Hi
yes i on HRT i take an an eostrogen patch 50mg and the drug which turned my life around uterogestan. i take 200mg at night, every night. given to me by a consultant at the menopause clinic. It has also reduced my anxiety. With daily exercise and a good book at night this has been my life saver.
