Hello Lovlies,

Anytime I come across useful information I like to share. The only way to get through this "transition" in the best possible way is to stay informed as to what is going on with our bodies. Being as though every woman is different, what may work for one may not work for the other. But knowledge is key to being able to live our lives the best and healthiest way possible.

With that being said, I came across some information on the internal shaking and jitters. Now this info may not apply to you, but if if does, by all means take it and do more research on your own to help yourself. Some of the first symtpoms that I expierenced that started to really ramp up anxiety for me is the racing heart and the internal shaking. I felt the the shaking in my chest and stomach mainly, but I could feel it all over. At times I would get the racing heart with it.

The shakiness and jitters first. We already know that the decline in estradiol can affect blood sugars, and digestive issues. For some the shakiness and jitters can be due to the blood sugars and dietary changes can help to stable that during peri/meno if you are not a true diabetic. It can also be due to anxiety and adrenaline surges. The other possibility can be digestive related. Since the digestive system is affected by declining hormones we digest food slower and have more gas than we usually do as well as an excess of stomach acid. I since have been diagnosed with GERD as many women do in peri/meno and I do have excessive gas and stomach acid which causes that burning feeling. For me what has been causing that internal shaky feeling in my chest and stomach is stomach acid putting pressure behind the breast bone which irritates the vagus nerve that can cause the anxiety type symptoms. If I chew a tums or take an acid reflux tablet the internal shakiness and jitters stop. Drinking chamomile tea, ginger capsules or tea, tums, rolaids, omeprazole, zantac, cal/mags or whareverse you choose to use calms the stomach acid, calms the vagus nerve and neutralizes excess gas. Also when the vagus nerve is irritated it can cause heart palps and that is why when your reflux is acting up the excess acid pushing the vagus nerve can start palps. Now again this may not be the case for all, but it may be for some. So I thought that I would share the info just in case it may help you.

Thankyou so much for your advice. I to suffer from acid reflux,it goes in my nose and burns and burns in throat. Tight to breath is an understatement. Last night no sleep at all,the night before 2 hours. My face and body buzzes. Saw a cell analyser today and she could see lots of acid in my blood cells and other interesting things.

Thank you so much, you have described how I have been feeling for the past three months perfectly. I have had ECG and 24 hour heart monitor thinking my heart was faulty and been told all ok. I thought I was going mad. Why don't the doctors know these things!! I have been taking Omeprazole for gastritis but stopped after reading other forums saying it can cause other body aches and pains and dizziness. Needless to say the heart palpitation and fluttering got worse. So confusing. It all causes anxiety but reading your post has made me feel so much better, I nearly cried with relief when I read it.

Maisie, Im looking into taking apple cider vinegar capsules, manuka honey and digestive enzymes to control the GERD. All natural things that have been used for so long. Like you, I cant tolerate the Omeprazole.

maisie you are not alone in this.  It is really scary stuff.  Something as simple as jamie suggested, tums, or in my case, gaviscon could settle your stomach and help with this awful problem.  Try it and see.  It's great to have your heart checked out, but because they then send you away and you STILL have the horrible palps etc., it is very unsettling.  I found gaviscon and haven't looked back and no doctor told me that!

Hi Snowbell. Thanks for the suggestions.  I use Manuka honey on porridge oats and as a drink with warm water. I have ordered apple cider vinegar capsules. The reviews from other users looked positive. Have you tried them yet? What time of day do you take it?  Are digestive enzymes the same as probiotics? My sister uses probiotics and has suggested I try them but I'm worried to overload my stomach and wondered if they would react together.

I was just diagnosed with borderline hypertension which was a shock to me. I've always had good blood pressure so this threw me for a loop. I have GERD also. So I know it can be tough dealing with hormones and other health issues. Half the time I don't know which one the symptoms are coming from. It's nothing I can do but deal with symptoms as they come about.

The reason I started with the ginger capsules was my daughter did some research and found that often gerd is caused by insufficient stomach acid and ppi Meds are designed to reduce it.

The ginger taken before meals is supposed to help increase it.

When I first started having problems with it my need to eat was affected. I always used to be hungry and ready for my next meal an hour before I ate. Then it changed and I would still be feeling full up at the next meal.

When I started with the ginger I just took some and was happy to discover it made me feel hungry for a change.

I started suffering with really bad gas and indegestion. One evening I went to the ER because my stomach and chest was burning and the palps were going. They gave me what they called a GI cocktail. Some concoction of Mylanta, Lidacaine, and something else they put together to help indegestion and burning. It stopped the burning sensations and the palps stopped also. That's when they told me I had GERD. Never heard of it before then.

Thats interesting jamie.............did you know that the vagus nerve controls our hormones, adrenal glands, sugars, digestion, heart lungs, breathing, so, all that makes perfect sense to me, the vagus nerve is in the upper abdomen, chest, arms, and brain, in the brain its called nerve X, and nerve X sends messages to the vagus nerve, its part of the autonomic nervous system thats affected during menopause, so, things in all those areas can go wrong, but its only temporary, it will settle, this is why were not truly diabetics etc.

Now that's good information Elaine. I had no idea the vagus nerve was involved with all of that. It's no wonder all of this stuff is connected.
