Internal vibration sensation - caused by stress??

I've found several forums where there have been posts from people experiencing this disconcerting feeling of an internal quivering or vibration but none of them are current, so I wanted to see if anyone else out there is having the same experience and can share an insight into what might be causing it.
I started to get this feeling of internal vibration when I was mainly lying in bed and then occasionally if I shifted position it might last for 30 seconds or so before disappearing. That was about 8 months ago. Now I feel it every night and during the day as well quite often. The other day after a short walk of a few hundred yards followed by a period of standing still it felt like the ground was vibrating because it was in my feet. It seems to move around to different areas of the body - sometimes I feel it in my legs, an arm, torso - it's quite random but often felt when I've shifted position in bed. At first I thought it was circulatory but now I think it's probably neurological. I thought I was having palpitations but an ECG showed nothing abnormal. I've also had a full spine & brain MRI as I've been having other strange symptoms of occasional numbness and sensations of burning and cold areas of my arms/hands and legs/feet and a sore tongue which comes and goes and often feels like I've just cleaned my teeth with menthol toothpaste when I haven't. I thought I had all the signs of MS, but it hasn't been diagnosed. I've also had a number of blood tests for immune issues, evoked potentials and nerve conductivity tests. Nothing! The MRI does show a lot of wear to my cervical vertebrae and two anterior spondylolisthesis - one cervical, one lumbar, so I wonder if my spinal issues could be the cause. My neurologist was doubtful. He also couldn't explain the vibration sensation except to say that it can be caused by a migraine, which I certainly haven't had.
I just don't know where to go with this now. My GP isn't interested and puts everything down to stress which I AM under it's certainly true to say, but I don't think she's right. I've had to pay for all my neuro investigations as a result because she won't refer me or do any more blood tests etc. I'm trying homeopathy, osteopathy and acupuncture as I want to find something that will relieve these weird symptoms and prefer to avoid drugs if I can.
I'm 58, eat reasonably heathily, no alcohol, only 1 cup of coffee a day and my weight is normal. I broke my wrist badly at the end of August last year which is when my problems all seemed to start. i
I also wonder if the metal plate that was used to fix the fracture could be causing some kind of strange reaction.
If anyone else is having these symptoms please let me know if you've been able to identify the cause and how to deal with it.

Did you ever figure out what is going on? I couldn't believe this when I read it because I have every single one of these things happening to me. The wierdest thing is the tongue pain. I too have spent insane amounts of money on medical test. All of my autoimmune tests with rheumatologist came back clear. I too have had a clear brain and spine MRI & normal bloodwork. The only abnormality that has come up is a bulging disc in my neck. I'm 27 years old. I too have been told by a neurologist it's anxiety. My friend recommended that I do something somewhat unconventional and go see a chriopractor last week. He told me he thought all of these problems stemmed from my neck & put me on a three month treatment plan that would cost me $1,500. I'm trying to decide if I should go along with it, but I'm left wondering if it is the root of my problem. $1,500 is a lot of money for me to spend and not find relief. Please respond ASAP

Hi, I wish I could tell you I had found out the cause of my symptoms but I have no answers yet. Some of them seem to have eased off - the menthol tongue sensation hasn't been bothering me as much, but the vibration hasn't gone away. This morning I could feel it in my chest and I can feel it with my fingers under the skin so it's not something imagined. I've also been getting a lot of palpitations - PACs - which my GP tells me are nothing to worry about following a Holter monitor and echocardiogram check. I do have neck problems and regularly see an osteopath for maintenance on my back & neck. I did look at a special treatment called Atlas Profilax which is supposed to treat misalignment of the Atlas vertebra. I thought it might resolve some of my peculiar issues but my osteopath warned me off it as there is a question of it being dangerous. I don't know whether your chiro is suggesting anything like this - there are a few other similar types of treatment, Atlas Orgthoganal is another one. You may like to check it out if you're in the US and ask your chiro if his treatment is along these lines. To be honest I've been more preoccupied with my palpitations of late than my other neuro symptoms so have been focussing on them less. I think anxiety does have a big part to play but it's also a vicious circle that's very hard to break. I don't know what to advise you to do about the proposed treatment from the chiro. It might be worth a second opinion from an osteopath as they have different methods. I've never been to a chiro myself. Good luck - let me know if you decide to go for it and if you find it's helping.

I've just started feeling this. Vibrating in my feet and palms. I've been under a lot of stress for a couple of years and sometimes I go along time during the day without eating. When my stress elevates, boy, there they are. Sleep resets the vibrations and my hands also have vasospasms where they will sting. I circulate my neck and the spasms temporarily subside. Doing cardio and improving my endurance minimized the symptoms. I can actually sometimes slow my thinking down and control the rhythm of the vibrating. Definitely anxiety. I've experienced this for about 4 years now. Anyone else experience this?

I also have this strange feeling. My legs were vibrating and its life crawling towards my head. The first time i encounter this was last year and my bp shoot up to 180/100. And that's the first time i knew that i'm an hypertensive. I under maintenance now for may bp and its normal but the internal vibration is still there. I consult to the cardio and he said that's its nothing to do with my bp. I never been to neurologist but i'm planning soon. Is there anyone of you experiencing the same thing as mine?

I am having the same issues. Really the internal vibrations are mostly during the night and they will last for 30 seconds or so every time after I move. It has really scared me and of course I am thinking the worst. I have extreme health anxiety but don’t take meds for it. Have you found that it is caused by anxiety or have you finally figured something else out? I really want answers but then again I’m afraid of getting answers. Ugh!

Thank you for sharing your own experiences which sound very similar to mine. I keep thinking the worst too, even though I've had an MRI of head and spine and nothing conclusive was seen. I still don't know what's causing this but I have some comfort in reading that I'm certainly not alone. I would like to think it's just anxiety but I don't think it would be something that happens every night if that was the case. The only thing I haven't had checked is the possibility of an auto immune condition, possibly Sjogrens.. Like you I would like to find the cause but I'm also scared in case it's the early stages of something serious.

Hi Sally. I'm like you. I wish it was anxiety but I don't know. I have the vibrations and tremors thru out the day but mostly at night to the point I can't sleep. My legs/feet/arms get numb st times. My balance is off when picking up things, feels like my legs about to give out anytime. I too experiencing the tongue thing. I get dizzy and weak all of sudden. Its driving me crazy! I have an ECG and MRI but reading these posts it looks as though the tests results are OK. I been reading up on MS too. My PCP don't think its that. However in 2015 when I saw a neurologist he sent a letter to my PCP to review my lab work to check for MS or Lupus. I had different symptoms back then. The symptoms I mentioned first started in Nov. Heart started racing while laying in bed. Had to call 911, dizzy, weak, couldn't walk. I'm praying we would get to the root of this. My neck is is stiffening and spine hurts depending on way I move. Let's keep each other informed. Thanks so much.

Thanks for sharing Shay. I can count even more silimarities now you’ve mentioned your other symptoms. I have terrible balance - hopeless in yoga and have to balance on one foot holding the wall! My heart often races at night around 03.30am and I have to try not to panic. I have a lot of PACs and have just got beta blockers to take to help with arrhythmia. A month ago I went into aFib and ended up going to A&E which was scary. I haven’t experienced dizziness/weakness particularly, at least not yet. Yes do keep in touch. Best wishes to you.

I'm getting this vibration feeling too, it had left for about a week, I was feeling better and I noticed I felt very calm during that week. now since I got a call from my doctor yesterday saying she wants to refer me to a specialist for further testing, I'm feeling that vibration feeling again.. It's overwhelming sometimes, I try to relax, stay calm. I also feel cold all the time, on and off since November. Doctors kept telling me its a viral infection but I just can't seem to catch a break... How long do the vibration sensation lasts for you? is it constant from when you wake up?
