Internal vibration sensation - caused by stress??

I've found several forums where there have been posts from people experiencing this disconcerting feeling of an internal quivering or vibration but none of them are current, so I wanted to see if anyone else out there is having the same experience and can share an insight into what might be causing it.

I started to get this feeling of internal vibration when I was mainly lying in bed and then occasionally if I shifted position it might last for 30 seconds or so before disappearing. That was about 8 months ago. Now I feel it every night and during the day as well quite often. The other day after a short walk of a few hundred yards followed by a period of standing still it felt like the ground was vibrating  because it was in my feet. It seems to move around to different areas of the body - sometimes I feel it in my legs, an arm, torso - it's quite random but often felt when I've shifted position in bed. At first I thought it was circulatory but now I think it's probably neurological. I thought I was having palpitations but an ECG showed nothing abnormal. I've also had a full spine & brain MRI as I've been having other strange symptoms of occasional numbness and sensations of burning and cold areas of my arms/hands and legs/feet and a sore tongue which comes and goes and often feels like I've just cleaned my teeth with menthol toothpaste when I haven't. I thought I had all the signs of MS, but it hasn't been diagnosed. I've also had a number of blood tests for immune issues, evoked potentials and nerve conductivity tests. Nothing! The MRI does show a lot of wear to my cervical vertebrae and two anterior spondylolisthesis - one cervical, one lumbar, so I wonder if my spinal issues could be the cause. My neurologist was doubtful. He also couldn't explain the vibration sensation except to say that it can be caused by a migraine, which I certainly haven't had.

I just don't know where to go with this now.  My GP isn't interested and puts everything down to stress which I AM under it's certainly true to say, but I don't think she's right. I've had to pay for all my neuro investigations as a result because she won't refer me or do any more blood tests etc.  I'm trying homeopathy, osteopathy and acupuncture as I want to find something that will relieve these weird symptoms and prefer to avoid drugs if I can.

I'm 58, eat reasonably heathily, no alcohol, only 1 cup of coffee a day and my weight is normal. I broke my wrist badly at the end of August last year which is when my problems all seemed to start. i

I also wonder if the metal plate that was used to fix the fracture could be causing some kind of strange reaction.

If anyone else is having these symptoms please let me know if you've been able to identify the cause and how to deal with it.

Im hoping I've made a bit of a breakthrough on this myself! I've started taking high strength vitamin D, about a month ago, mainly due to the sketchy advice about it being beneficial to help Covid 19. Its early days, but ive had a huge reduction in buzzing symptoms. I suffer from anxiety, and thought that could be a reason or contributor to the buzzing, but I've been pretty anxious since the start of the pandemic, and the buzzing has improved.

Hi, i have had constant ongoing internal vibrations that do not stop all day. I have had them for about 10 days and they are really starting to get to me. This has been coupled with somewhat blurry vision and slight pains/stiffness in the hands and jaw. I had a Brain MRI and blood tests in Janurary about a seperate issue and nothing ever showed. Doctor thinks that if i had something like MS a brain scan in January would have shown any lesions. Not really sure what to do or what i might have? Any suggestions?

      Hi,

I totally understand what you are experiencing. it scary! i have been experiencing something similar. the vibrations and twitches that come and go and a little joint pain in the arms etc. When the train goes past my house my whole body vibrates..... its crazy!! my doctor said she cant refer me because it doesn't fit any description. Do you get headache?

Maybe get another batch of test done to explain some of the symptoms. Try to remain positive. i have faith that we are all okay.

Thats so crazy! its honestly just so uncomfortable. No i dont get headaches but i do get like a fuzzy feeling in my head. I try to remain positive as previous tests have shown nothing, and the doctor said it was likely anxiety issues. I want to get more testing done, hopefully i will this week.

mine is mostly in my tummy but at night I feel it everywhere. 2 weeks now. when the spasm dies down for a few mins I feel calm in my body, then it comes back again even during sleep.

same here sally although mostly my torso. happening all day. Wake up quivering. i hear internal signs like heart beat, and internal noise. under a huge amount of stress and struggling at the moment. waiting for tummy scan results but very scared.

curious - has anyone woken with explosive headaches? Where it feels like your head is literally going to explode? The pain is incredible but passes almost immediately - just a second or two at the most. It started just before the vibrations and only happens once every month or two and its not bad since it passes so quickly but it is odd.

Its now been over 3 weeks and my symptoms have not gotten better. Still internally shaking non stop every day, vision still blurred on and off, pain and stiffness in jaw and hands but now i also have started to get headaches as well as tingling/numbness in the mouth and jaw...I had a blood test a week ago which said my thyroid was inflamed, so i was given medication thinking that finally the problem had been solved but it did nothing...im quite worried

      Hi Peter,

Any news on your issue? I too experience some of the same things.

      Hey Matt,

since then i had seen the doctor multiple times and had multiple blood tests, i went to see a neurologist twice having brain and upper spinal MRIs. i asked the neurologist about MS and Parkinsons and he assurred me that i definitely do not have either. i have been diagnosed with one of 2 benign and harmless issues, either Essential Tremor or Enhanced Physiological Tremor. i still have pretty much the same symptoms now 3 months on, havent got any better but havent got any worse.

    hello all.

so my symptoms have steadily improved since the lockdown in the uk. i am absolutely certain they are caused by body memory and my subconscious. i was on a call today about a return to the office and lo and behold, begsn to shake.

this is psychosomatic people. A problem with the functioning of your nervous system. you need to try and remove the stressors or indeed learn to deal with them better. i am in this battle and it has caused me 3 nervous breakdowns, such is the horror of it as it persists. im getting better at coping. Or so i think, then it flares up and i am wrecked again.

anyway much sympathy from me. if you guys suffer at home for whatever reason, try this. take yourself to a quiet room and lie down. breath in through your nose for 5 or 6, hold for 2 or 3 secs, out for 7 or 8 secs. ut will be hard at first and your mind all over the place for first few mins, maybe longer, but then you will find that your mind has checked out eventually.

do this for 15-20 minutes and i promise you it will reset yoyr nervous system, your shaking will be gone and mind calm.

3.5 year sufferer here guys, always here to support others and looking for other ideas too.

    Hi Sally,

I've had this same exact symptom ( internal leg vibrations for the last year), but I also have leg fatigue. when I do any type of activity the vibration gets worse.

Saw two Neurologist and conducted the tests below:

    Brain MRI ( negative)

EMG on the muscle and nerves( negative)

    Blood work ( negative)

    ANA test (negative)

    Genetic test ( negative)

Next Step: will see an MS specialist and rheumatologist to try to get to the root cause of my symptoms.

Hopefully you can find an answer soon!

      Hi Andres.

Sorry I've only just read your post! I'm interested to hear whether you've seen an MS specialist and Rheumatologist in your quest to get to the bottom of these symptoms? You've had several of the same investigations that I've had which were also negative. The only one I didn't get was an EMG. The other diagnostic that might show something but personally I prefer to avoid is a lumbar puncture as it's invasive.

      Good luck with everything.
