IOL Exchange: POSITIVE Dysphotopsia
Posted , 21 users are following.
Hello,
I'd like to start a new thread ONLY for people suffering from POSITIVE Dysphotopsia.
Please share your story, tell us what IOL type and brand you have and whether you consider IOL Exchange procedure.
My case:
Tecnis 1-piece monofocal ZCB00, 2 years ago, terrible positive dysphotopsia including glare halos starburst and pretty much everything. I am scared of exchange, but am getting more and more desperate. Addicted to Pilocarpine since one month post op in order to alleviate the sympthoms. No PCO, perfectly located and everything is "perfect" like they always say.

I have ZCB00 in right eye.
Having starbursts (fine streaks from the light source in dim light environment including overcast days. getting worse (longer and denser streaks) when it's darker. The super-bright white headlight is the worst.
I see lens ring when it's very dark.

only starburst or other disturbances?
Tecnis is a piece of s. They should include info that their IOL guarantees dysphotopsia. For example it's much better in case of simple Alcon Acrysof. Still consider exchange to get rid of this mistake. Never ever choose Tecnis ZCB00

only starburst and concentric ring by lens edge. I don't see halo from it.

thought i had replied but can't see it
tecnis eyhance in dominant eye first
Can see very well for distance
see outline of lens at night when indoors looking at light source some glare but good for driving
chose Ic-8 small aperture lens for second eye to get a chance at all distance sight against Dr advice .
Cannot get multi focal as had PkR laser in the mid nineties
Experience donut shaped haloes around all lights at night
was disconcerting at first but seems to be easing. Sometimes haloes on right side only. can drive at night. brain adapting slowly?
eye 1 11 oct 19 eye 2 29 nov 19.
it seems you need to give it 3 mths min
Dr said eye 2 cloudy and nay need YAG Eye 1 clear
second opinion dr said he would never use ic-8 lens. Said both eyes cloudy from pkr abd basically to just go away.
dilemma is risk Yag or get exchange. apparently its one or the other .
in the meantime it's wait and see.
Aware this is about trade offs. Difficulty deciding which trade offs .
BUT OVERALL GRATEFUL TO HAVE SIGHT BACK AS WAS VERY CLOUDY BEFORE

Guys just take a look, 90% of lenses mentioned here are Tecnis. This is madness and not by accident. They should pay huge money for what they've done to us. There is no single individual complanining about positive dysphotopsia with for examples Alcon Acrysof SN60WF. What the f?

I do have the Alcon Acrosof SN60WF and have all sorts going on,light sensitivity, glare, halos, couple blurry clouds going back and forth across my vision with the slightest movement of my eye, flickering etc etc. Can't go out shopping without overhead lighting in most shops bothering me.My surgeon said he had never heard of flickering before and tried to convince me it was my eyelid, what a joke he is supposed to be the expert, flickering seems to one of the commonest side effects going and mentioned on various sites on the internet.
Because I knew what lens I had I have done a lot of research on it in the net and I am sorry to say although it may not have been mentioned that much on here I have seen that model mentioned so many times by people and even specialists that it is well known for the problems I am suffering from and is very bad for glistenings.I am four months in post surgery and like most people out there with these side effects looking for some good advise by a specialist who knows what he is talking about and am going to set the wheels in motion via my G.P and dig my heels in til I get a referral and some answers to see if I have any options to put this right.
Sorry if this is bad news for you adamadam if my particular lens was one you were considering but I would be very wary of it and look on here further afield and it will confirm what I am saying about it,I'm sure a great many people have had it and had no problems but cataract surgery does n't have a 100% success rate and some of us have to be the unlucky ones it seems.

All lenses have their pros and cons

Could be because Tecnis is so good that it's often the surgeon's choice. So percentage wise it's still better than other lenses, but because more are implanted, you see more absolute number of people with complications from them.

I would have my Tecnis iols exchanged if i knew which lens would correct the problems im having. Please share if info is found.

I also have the Alcon Acrysoft IQ (different SN6AT4 and am having all the same issues. All I hear is they don't have any idea what is causing the issues and don't think it's the the IOL. I definitely think it's the IOL. I'm just amazed at how little these doctors that are operating on your eyes know.
I am also "digging my heels" in to see if there is any way to get relief. Second opinion said he couldn't recommend an IOL exchange which I know is complicated by that fact that I had a YAG (that made all the issues worse and increased my floaters). I also have those blur blobs.
I'd be interested to find out what you found in your research. I am really appalled at how little these "cataract experts" know. They haven't even mentioned positive dysphotopsia as being a diagnosis.

STAAR CQ2015A was placed via lens exchange following positive dysphotopsia occuring with initial lens( I do not remember what it was, but it was the standard lens used by this provider on thousands of patients). The STAAR worked beautifully. Of course I had to have a capsulotomy after about three months, and that left a bit of debris about 2 o'clock but not anything I can't deal with. We decided to wait on the second eye, not anxious to go through this series of events again right away. Unfortunately, I'm told by the surgeon the STARR lens is no longer being made. That's why I am interested in what you decide to do and how you come out. Expect success, and good luck.

So you've got NO dysphotopsia with that lens?

That is correct. I have no dysphotopsia with the STAAR.

I had Cataract surgery in September 2019 and have had problems with glare from headlights at night. My doctor said that I have the best lens for this problem, so there is not another lens that would help . My lenses are Tecnis Z9002 .
Home bound at night, tried drops to reduce pupil size, glasses with AR, and tints. Dont feel safe to drive at night! Very disappointed about night vision . Would love a solution
