Irritating , annoying comments about chronic pain .

Don’t you hate it when the able-bodied try to encourage you with cliches that no longer apply to chronic pain patients?

The one that irritates me most is, “If you can dream it, you can do it!”. or, "the power of positive thinking" ... Here's one of my favorites

just keep moving and be "Mindful" of your tolerances.

It makes me want to reply, “Really? I’m dreaming that you would feel my pain”.rolleyes

What at are some of the irritating response you receive from those who do not suffer from chronic pain? And what do you tell them?

      Hi Indigoods 🌲

WE are expecting a big storm artic front tomorrow. Lots of snow and ice wind. I've buttoned down the hatches and hope the 100' Doug fir trees don't fall on anyone this year. It happens every year. Someone is on the highway and boom a giant tree crushes them. That is a big issue here in the NW with all the trees ice heavy winds and heavy very wet snow.

i would rather send it up your way to NJ. I don't drive on ice. I take the horses out they do better.

Quick fun story to share.🌟🌟🌟3 star rating!

One year my son and I rode the horses 2 miles to town with the horses xmas hats and bells and antlers on. Red Sata outfits .We were cold and went thru the drive thru at a fast food joint got hot chocolate and the horses got their stale hamburger buns. Those were the good days! Luv xmas,

🎅Mar-e-xmas from my furry saddle friends.🦄🦄🦄🎅

How are the MTX shots going. Are they helping you? Low dose MTX treatment has been the staple of treatment for many years for everything from arthritis , to psoriasis

      Have a good ??!

Oh Hope that's a wonderful story. It reminded me of years ( eons) gone by...when as a child I lived in the north of England. The school was about 5 miles away and it was a cold long walk to the main road from our farm, where the school bus stopped. So my brother had a brainwave..take your horse down to the local shop near the main road and leave him in their back yard when you go to school and pick him up on the way back. This is what I did....until he got into their shed and opened up the lid of the Molasses stored there. It was so funny to see " Trigger" with his face covered in Molasses and a guilty look on his face. That was the end of our idea of getting me to the main road in the deep snow....I still laugh about it now. Ever tried to clean Molasses off a horse....phew. redface

    • Posted

That one Gloria really gave me quite a chuckle. Molasses how did you get it off? 🐴🐴🐴

i can't imagine trying to get molasses of a horses face in a freezing cold winter. Trigger probably got a tummy ache. That's a lot of sugar . Reminds me of the cowboy tv series with Roy Rodgers and Trigger the Palomino. Actually the horse is stuffed in the Roy Rodgers Museum in California. Omg!

Sounds like you had to walk almost to school just to catch the bus.

Yeah,I had to walk to school no busses up hill in the snow. LOL

Those were the days what a great story. Horses are just characters they always think with their stomachs.

Now that was a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟  "5 star story!"

      Hopexxxxx

I honestly can't remember how we got it off but he was licking his face for ages...and yes..it went straight thru' him...runny poos everywhere. Cleaning his stall was a challenge I would rather not indulge in...pppooooo

I feel for my adopted daughter Claudia who has to ride her motor bike to school every day in this weather...it's about 20 miles round trip and so dangerous on the roads this time of year. Today she has a strep throat...from exhaust fumes I think...so I,m dosing her up on lemon and honey..Tomorrow she will wear her mask...I hope.

Sorry to but in but add fresh grated ginger and Manuka honey there great for the immune system at this time of year, when my kids where little I swore by it and still do 😊

    • Posted

Yes we use ginger so much.it's great and grows wild here. But what is Manuka honey. I'm allergic to honey so I dare not try it but if I could get it for Claudia here that'd be good. Balinese people use a lot of home made honey and it is collected here and sold by a man who walks the street....I just had one teaspoonful once...and went into anaphylaxis...very scary. We make a cocoction called "Jamu" for various ailments..using herbs, ginger lemon, and all sorts of other things..( secret)...I gave some to Claudia tonight but she spat it out...yukky....oh well back to the lemon. honey and ginger.

Haha that's kids for you, no don't touch it if your allergic my son had it for years and then one night went into shock, Manuka has healing properties in it and the higher the grade the better it is, I think it Has to be 10 or over to be effective but the higher it is the more expensive 😊

Definetly cute story. And i take the Meth orally. 20mg, once a week. Seems to keep things at bay, but.....blah. And I think I'm getting worse, if it's the disease or the weather-hard to tell. Having problems with my hips and knees, now, as well. 1 hip kills me from my back to my foot, the other hip, the only thing I feel when I feel anything are pins and needles. Im starting to lose my mind

      Indi,

im so sorry to hear of you pain as it sounds all to familiar.

have you had a MRI to check for herniated disc or misalignment causing the nerve pain and tingling? a well as AK degenerative issues. I wear a back brace help, keep the pressure from my own weight causing pain.

do you have diabetes? Can cause nerve pain. Swelling in legs?

IF MTX has stopped working see your rhumy and ask for MRI . That will show 3-d of issues soft tissue with your back and hip to the nerve sciatic nerve causing pain that runs from back to foot. I'm not a doc it may be so many things yet my best choice would be to ask for MRI. Have you tried DEMARDS or Bio Drugs. That may be the next step to help you feel better.

And yeah the weather the cold just goes to the bone just plain hurts more. Stay warm and many blessing for better days sent your way!

keep, posting let us know how your doing.

      Hopexxxx

thankx for the sympathy.. yeah I have herniated discs from c2 or c3 down to at least c7. And then from L2 to s1. degenerative disc disease as well. had mri of them all but i feel in the last 2 months things have changed. So sick of going to doctors, 3 month wait for this, 2 months for that, etc. etc. did physical therapy for neck and lumbar. Im so sick and tired of EVERYTHING. The best support I get is here. All my friends-gone. My wife acts like because she has to pick up the slack I should be rewarding her. Great job, but no offense,  who do you think was doing ALL that stuff before. Ya know, I can't even remember the last time she asked me how I was feeling. Now I have to go to another pain management doctor, there are none in my area. They don't have evening or weekend hours. So I have to pick between getting medications or working. Doubt my boss is gonna let me outta work, considering all the times you have to go and see a pain management specialist. I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. I give up!

      Dear INDI,

It's always a shocker when a life time of just living working playing has caught up with our bodies and we are grinding literally to a screeching halt.

Sometimes the pain is so difficult to cope with. Have you thought about seeing a pain councelor?  They have given me a way to visualize the pain and let it go and anti depression meds have helped a lot. I was so depressed from grieving my past active pain fee life that I lost my way to cope with today.

Your diagnosis is very similar to mine and a few shinny blinged out joints. I am very sorry to hear how little family support you live with, as that can make us feel so much worse, especially when our loved ones are not there for us to help make our lives easier. I don't know how you still work every day with the pain issues you face. It's abusive in many ways.

Plz ask for referal for a pain councelor to help you cope. They specialize in giving hope, rebuild our lives and let go of the annoying issues that causes more pressure and pain, antidepressants made my pain better as depression adds to pain.

The Happiness of your life depends on the quality of your Thoughts.😀

      Hopexxx

Hi all...the girls have already said exactly the words I would have offered...so I won't repeat them...good on yer girls...you are wonderful. I have four cervical discs damaged...three thoracic and four lumbar...spinal cord stenosis, RA and psoriasis.....so there's not much of me left that's normal. What I try to do is...look forward to "next week" when the pain would have changed...and focus beautiful things in my minds eye...maybe walking on a sandy beach...wading in a mountain stream...and such like.. It's very hard to focus and sometimes I just wanna throw in the towel and quit...but...Now I have found this forum and the amazing friends here...I have the love that I need to continue. I have never known such love in my life...and I'm so grateful for it...for you. It's so hard for us to understand the people around us who we love...freinds, family etc....and for them it's just as hard to understand us...they want us back again...the way it was...sadly that can't happen....so depend on us....we are in this together and we need each other so much....let the love shine everyone....Hugs all round...Gloria

That's one of the few things I haven't tried. Some part of me refuses...childish I know. Thankfully, my wife and I had a sit down. She kinda actually listened differently this time. Maybe I got through! I like the fact you mostly quoted Marcus Aurelias with: " The soul is dyed by the color of it's thoughts" being a Stoic philosopher myself. You kinda zinged with that one. lol  Good on ya!

information is power, information doesn't always translate into knowledge but at least you have the basic facts in front of you. It is important to be aware of all the treatments available for AK.
