Is it normal for one's blood pressure to rise over time in the same way that

diabetics' blood glucose readings detiorate over time and they eventually have to take nsulin. i ask because my BP has really rocketed over the past 3 weeks for no reason I can think of.  Morning readings of well below 110 systolic are now a distant memory; nothing less than 140 and more often between 150-170. Diastolic doesn't fare much better either - frequently in the 90's and over 100. It was never like this. I am now getting readings on a par with the time I was diagnosed which was March 2013. I take Losartan 25 mg, having had it reduced from 50 mg a year ago last July, with no noticeable decline until now.

I'm having a 6 month review on Monday and expect to have the meds increased. sad.

I don't know if this helps but I have been on Lisinopril for over 3 years now.  I was diagnosed with hypertension and my bp at the time was 220/118.  Doctor couldn't believe I walked into his office on my own feet. He started me out on 10 mg.  I started seeing a cardiologist soon after and she gradually increased it up to 40mg of Lisinopril.  I haven't had any side effects but I have had out of the blue blood pressure spikes.  Only 2 things cause my blood pressure, well take that back 3 cause my bp to ramp up.  One is stress.  Stress will make me feel like I am having a heart attack.  My chest tightens if the top number of my bp gets up to 150 or higher.  Second is pork.  I eat pork consistantly and it rockets my bp up.  The other is sodium.  I am on a low carb diet and I haven't had a bp issue since last August 2014.  That was until this week.  I have tried to figure out why my bp has gone from 128/75 to 165/78.  The bottom number is good, but the top number is to high.  My chest has been tight.  Now this morning it did go away for about 9 hours.  I even walked 2 miles and no issues.  It wasn't until this afternoon that my chest started to tighten again and my bp climbed.  I don't know if it's stress or sodium.  I haven't at any pork in 2 weeks so it can't be that.  Anyway, I am finding out that people with hypertension do have episodes where their bp ramps up.  Just keep watching your sodium intake, drink lot's of water, try to exercise and it will drop.  When mine goes up like that, it takes a week or more for it to go back down.  That is the frustrating part for me.  Good luck

That's really interesting, especially about the pork. Who would have thought that!  I can't actually say I eat a lot of pork or meat at all really although I'n not a veggie. and salt and alcohol I cut out almost totally about 2.5 years ago. i never thought I could cut out salt and didn't believe my dr when she said i'd soon get used to it - she was right. I do think I haven't been drinking enough water recently though. Exercise isn't a problem - I have a young Labrador !!

Thank you for your input,  it's interesting to read how other people on this site cope with their hypertension. Hope yours settles back down very soon.
