I had my TKR 7months ago and it's still not much better then immediately after the operation, 60° plus pain. have also had to manipulations since without much success and they are still confident I'll be right in the end. Unlike hips knees are a bit hit and miss and I've met loads of people who had to go even longer than me, some not better till after two years
my GP put me on amypritsolene For pain relief; i
its an antidepressant as well, no bad thing for we TKRsYou'll be right eventually but it can be a long journey and worrying makes it even worse

Morning Jon you are right worrying about it won’t change a thing but Dr’s need to understand that they been to be honest to the patients and make us understand how brutal the op is and complications do happen Drs need to understand that they need to put patients in touch with each other so questions can be asked and answers given not everyone has a mobile phone or the internet knew it was going to hurt but my God not like this so I’m glad I found this site I’ve learned a lot and hope one day I will have no more pain or stiffness 🤔😊

Hi Jon, thank you for information, the key word seems to be patience, and being confident that eventually the pain and stiffness will go away 😀 x

Jon are you on amitriptyline? That's what Im taking for sleep also. It was originally made for depression, but now docs prescribe it for sleep and man o man does it work??!!! It was a god send to me about 4 months ago...... My son in law(MD) said it was also used for pain..... Good luck in your journey.

Yes. Amitriptyline used to be used for depression but they Now use it for sleep and with nerve ending pain I used to take it but then it stopped working on me 😓 I’ve been in pain medication for yrs I’ve become allergic to most meds and have to take antihistamine with Co-Codamol 30/500 I can say with all honesty that I hate pain

Mercy me, I hope amitriptyline doesn't stop working for me....... I hate pain too. especially this pain. there is nothing to compare it to. I feel hopeless, because my old knee is gone. The only time Im not in pain is when I am asleep.

The there are usually big jumps in lower pain levels at 3 and 6 months. By 9 months, very many people report "feeling more like their old self". At one year, there is usually little to no pain at all. Stiffness is another issue. It decreases very gradually and can last 12-18 months AND BEYOND!!! This will happen when you do not keep the knee active. This is a LIFELONG recovery...you must keep the knee moving. Sitting for 8 hours and then getting up...the first few steps are always an adventure. The stiffness will never go away if you are too sedentary.
