Hello Lara, I had right THR in July 14 and must be very fortunate as I have had no pain after a couple of weeks from op. The only thing I get is a bit of soreness along the scar line if I walk too far - currently able to to 3+ miles daily, I'm 65yr. I had very good after-care and paid for hydrotherapy which really help re-build muscle and  by rubbing bio-oil into the scar twice daily. Not sure if pilates would be of use. Have you done the exercises daily that the physio should have explained to do immediatly after op and for at least a couple of months. Wish you well.

    Regards Arthur

Once u start therapy u will learn so much about movements and how exercises done core scaly can be the best heeling method .

i hope you are better soon. There are a lot of ups and downs. Soon you will be dancing at the next party.

Wishing u the best. Third time THR SURVIVOR. Each one was very different. The best thing was the exercises which for me was the road to recovery. Remember UR bone has to grow into the implant to stabilize the components. It takes time. 8 months to a year. It's different for everyone.

There are many variables in heeling thru the whole process.

      Best Wishes.confused

    Hi

Do you see a physio......he would be the best person to check with.

I know a lot of people to Pilates after THR or gentle yoga but we are all different

I would seek medical advice about it.

      Hi Eilleen,

good od to see you. It's been awhile. How are you doing.

After therapy I was given a list of Pilates safe to do as well as the standard exercises. No weight bearing anything.

      Hope you are well.

      Hi

Yes long time no see....my computer was down for a few days......other times? We must have been on different threads cheesygrinStill on 2 crutches but going for my 2nd cortisone injection in a weeks time.,

That seemed to help ease the pain.

I wasnt given any list of pilates or anything like that just a couple of standard NHS exercises.

I do yoga, with a teacher who adapts a few of the moves to suit me

I go to the gym once a week, referral from the doctor. A programme that the have set for me

      Sometimes seated zumba

Apart from that......just going about.....volunteeering, committee meetings etc etc. I refuse to sit in the housewink

What about you? How are you?

      Love

    Hi Lara,

So sorry to hear that you are still in pain.  I had my THR last August, thought I was doing well, but walking for any great distance gave me the groin pain.  My physiotherapist told me last week that the muscles in my operated hip leg are still very weak.  This is despite doing all my exercises, she has now given me harder exercises and wants me to gradually build up walking on my treadmill.  You must be very young to have a toddler, I can imagine how dificult it must be for you.  Does it hurt whilst doing the pilates?  I wonder if water walking might help you.  Please know that we are all thinking of you.

Thank you very sore day after Pilates so not sure if it's too much. Go to the pool some time difficult to do much with kids . Only 37 for hip every one said recovery would be great as I'm young but seems like it's much longer than expectedy

      Hi Beryl

I had my hip replaced 13 months ago {2nd hip} then a fracture four weeks post op.....the fracture wont heal because the bone snapped and a bit of it moved away so the two bits will never knit together again.....they can do nothing about that either. I've got scoliosis so spinal problems as well.....I walk with 2 crutches, cant walk very far with 1 and couldnt walk without them

I'm 68......My leg isnt shorter as such but because of this fracture I have what the surgeon calls a dip.......if you look at me walking with no help Its like I have a very highheel on one foot and the other one is bare....does that make sense

We seem to be alike in a lot of ways.

I found a lady that does yoga {for older ladies}  NOT OLD cheesygrin

She is very good and adapts some of the moves for me

      Good luck everyone

      Eileen,

I didn't know, there must be something that can be done. A friend on mine had a bone transplant. Actually ground bone from a bovine set in the break to repair the leg .

I'm sorry to hear u have had so much difficulty. I hope you find a specialist who can help you!

      Hi Again,  lol

We dont hear each other for a while then we are posting back and forward lol

The couple of specialists I've seen say there is nothing can be done because the 2 pieces of bone are so far apart they will never knit together.

I think I would rather use my energy doing things and keeping active than fighting with more consultants  wink

      Love

      Eileen
