I had Rt THR 8th Aug 2014. Everything going really well till 12 weeks when I lifted 23 Kg case..not thinking... but also I had no choice.. long story.. But something happened then as afterwards really bad limp and groin pain and buttock -psoas and piriformis muscles and tendon strain/inflammation. Anti inflamms did not work so now going to have cortisone injectins to reduce inflammation so I can work muscles again without strain. I am active (61) even now .. have to be horse and dog to walk and care for. But hope that injections will finally sort so I can go back to "normal" reovery road again. I have been having weekly hands on physio since 6 weeks post op... without it I do not know how much worse I would have been... but obv this costs... not everyone can afford and sorry NHS physios are not "hands on" they do not have the time.. which is NOT their fault.. just the system and lack of resources...

When are you going for your cortisone.....good luck....I know its different for different people.
I think you know my story.....long story........suffice to say I'm on crutches permanently after a fracture weeks post op THR
The consultant said you are coping well with life on crutches now we have to try and hit that pain ......Cortisone injection.
That was about 3 months ago. Its only starting to wear off a little bit now. Still not nearly as sore as I was beforehand. Got and appointment 23rd of this month....that will make it four months and he will give me another cortisone injection. I dont know about you but I consider that a result
Hope yours goes well......let us know

I am down as URGENT.. normally 4 - 6 weeks, but as there had been an abslute "Balls up" by NHS appointment online, consutant said he would do it as urgent... I am away this weekend... work.. but hope it will be soon after that! I am hoping that it will ease the ache/inflammation in the groin and allow better recovery and then back to full time riding! Funny as today I sat astride a "saddle horse". nice and narrow BUT the ache was in non op leg!! I think cos of all physio work on op side the non op side has stiffened up.. What a joke... so will ask physio on Wed to massage non op side also!! BUT at least I am better off than you are....and there is light at end of tunnel...

Talk about a mess up in the NHS appointments department
I have a letter from the consultant saying to come back the 23rd of this month.....OK that will be about months since the first one.
Today I got an automated call from NHS.....are you xxxx press 1, you have an appointment etc etc press 1, you are confirming you will attend the appintment? press 1......This is normal for our hospital so I just pressed without thinking.....when I came off the phone I thought..,....she said the 9th of the mont {next week} I better check.
I rang up appointments, yes 9th Feb at pm.......then she said Ohhh!! I've just found another one for you on the 23rd of Feb at pm????
Theb she said just keep the 9th appointment and ask him when you are there does he want to see you on the 23rd as well???? Do they ever talk to each other in the NHS

revision THR components are a bit larger to fit in press fit old hole drilled in rpfemur bone. That was last Oct. Still in pain but thru experience I have faith that with exercise water therapy and coping with my limitations I will do better. Every day it gets a little bit better.
if I sit on the floor I cannot get up so still keeping things up higher to reach, than stooping. My doc gave me a disability parking permit helps with grocery shopping. It's takes time to gain back my energy.

I did mine online and if it hadnot been an early appt I would have paid for private.. Srangeky the first available appt was at local private hspital..OK .. so thurned up AND I had checked just before going as I had rcvd no letter etc confirming.. - mabe online they don't send letters? - arrived n due time.. O.. there isno appt you are not onlist.. WHAT!! Where's yr letter? WHAT!! So .. wait there... someone will c oem and see you.. THEN I had all the blarne about Oh we are private you are NHS we do not have facility blah blah blah.. you are NHS.. Now as my BP started to rise... I said IF I had not taken this early appt I woudl have paid to see consultant pribately and in which case I woudl have seen him HERE!! Oh yr appt was cancelled.. dd you not rcv letter.. you have to go back to yr GP... I asid a few choice words ending with don;t bother I will phone his secretary and pay to see him. BUT driving home I cooled down .slightly... and drove instead to GP surgery They chased up there nad then.. YES I DID have an appt that day.. it was still on system! NO they had not rcvd a letter fron hospital and no explanatin as to why the appt had "apparently" been cancelled. She eventually spoke to consultant later that afternoon. He also knew nothign about it. he did recall me.. am I that hard to forget!!?? - and he said he woudl arrange to see me a.s.a.p. on NHS. A week later I get a msg on my mobile Appt Reminder.. for appt the next day!! WHAT appt??? I had rcvd no notification... So phoned hospital Oh yes 3 pm. The whole system is...... BUT a good outcome in the end... What was even more annoying re. first appt. that "wasn't". Supoose I was working.. had taken time off or had to take a taxi.. Time and costs??? BUT in the end NHS is good...compared to other countries....So take rough with smooth and COMPLAIN when things go awry.

We are lucky I suppose to have the NHS when we read other stories about money and ops not being done because insurance has run out or something similar. But they can be a pain at time
Well this first appt is for next Monday.....lets hope the consultant knows I'm coming and gives me the cortisone injection??? I did check with the appointments dept. but not sure that means anything LOL

Yes but only certain ones. Remember restrictions on movements. I did them both times for both hips, once cleared the therapists showed me the safe ones. No lifting pushing weights. Therapy also has many ways to help build muscle and tone the ligament . Stretching is good too! Bicycling slowly is great if u can sit on the seats.
I like the stationary bikes with tractor seats and a well placed pillow.
Start slow and work UR way up to repititions. And always do the butt squeezes one of the most important exercise of all. It really helps build up core muscles stomach and back muscles. Keeps the implant stable while healing.
I also liked water therapy a RX for water therapy is resistance training. Also a good way for muscle building without the pain. In hip recovery exercising the saying in if u start to feel pain when exercising STOP immediately. We are not in the no pain no game group for this one. The purpose & goal is to slowly build strength as the bone grows into the prothesis to stabilize the implant. After 8-9 months you'll be good to go in most cases.
Happy Trails.
