Is sertraline for me?
Posted , 12 users are following.
I switched from citalopram to sertraline nearly 5 and a half weeks ago. 50mg of sertraline.
I cant stop shaking all day and evening. my back and leg muscles really ache. like I have flu.
my negative thoughts are constant
my mood has dropped so low and my anxiety is sky high. very panicky.
I just seem to be getting worse and really dont know what to do.
everyone says keep carrying on but I cant get across how crap I feel right now.
the past few days seem to just be getting harder and harder.
any advise or experience would be greatly appreciated.
don't feel like I can carry on much longer if I don't improve soon x
feeling defeated and scared right now

Potatoghost,
I did not know you were still having such a hard time. From what I have been told and read, 20mg of Citalopram is roughly equivalent to 50-75mg of Sertraline. 30mg is roughly 100-150mg and 40 is roughly 150-200mg (these are rough estimates from different sources). From you have said in your post about your previous dosing, going up would probably be prudent, especially when you've had so little progress. I do think that some of the effects are the withdrawal symptoms, though. I pray you have a quicker response with the higher dose.

thank you Axle I really appreciate your reply buddy x I thought it would be a little higher that would match my citalopram tbh. I think my next step is to probably increase dose I think rather than swapping as I have to start from the beginning again x
you ever experience adrenaline rush feelings at all? comes with a negative thought and it's horrible!

OMG, yes. I would get adrenaline rushes. The dark thoughts were constant, but did get worse the more anxiety I felt.
I just changed my dose to 87.5. I hit 12 weeks and did not get a full response. After the change, I got startup symptoms about two days later. It's been rough. These meds are so hard on some of us. Hope to hear some good news soon...

Oh Potato, I am so sorry that you're not doing well yet, I know that you have been on one heck of a ride with all of this.
Zoloft is a great antidepressant but I know that not every one of them is for each individual and possibly its just not for you. I know that you said that celexa had worked really well for you in the past, so possibly if you decide to try something else, what about lexapro? They say that is a sister to celexa, they are very closely related?
No matter what though, I know that you will find the right one and will be feeling better before you know it! The trial and error process really stinks! I know, I took celexa for 9 months feeling very yucky but know now that it wasn't for me and had to go off of it.
Anyway, if you need to talk about anything feel free to pm me.

thank you grounded x it has been a real struggle and the adrenaline rush feelings are killing me. I dont know wether that's part of withdrawals or not x it's hard to tell x
how are you feeling atm? hope ur still doing ok x I think I'll try increasing rather than swapping for now. I just really wish the citalopram didnt poop out and this past 9 months wouldn't have even happened x

I'm doing alright, so far so good. It's been 3 weeks or so now since I went off of the celexa and really haven't noticed much in withdrawl effects other then some brain zaps. The dp/dr, and all that is pretty much gone that I had while on the celexa so that's good.
Ahh good for you to stick with it then, and increase, keeping my fingers crossed that is just what you needed! I can say that zoloft in the past has been a huge help for me, I hope that it will be for you also!
Best Wishes Potato, keep us updated 😃

Yes that would be nice, message me the info for it. I'm a little nervous to start it so close to my wedding though! It's 3 weeks away. I guess if I start feeling really yucky I may go ahead and do it before, if not it will be after for sure!
