Is this Balanitis? I'm 21, had it most of my whole life, no treatment has worked

Hello, I've seen a doctor many times about a mild condition I have on my penis glans, have been prescribed 3 different creams including Betnovate and a Hydrocortisone, a course of antibiotics and a swab which said I was clear and still the condition remains. I used to have a tight foreskin up until last year which is now sorted from stretching, and I think the condition began during my teenage years when I wasn't able to wash the glans. It often feels dry and can sometmes feel slightly painful when the foreskin retracts, almost like its rubbing and the sensitivity everywhere is quite high still, not sure if this is due to the condition. The urethra opening is always red and inflamed and red areas appear frequently around the glans itself. Any advise on what I should do would be much appreciated, have attached a photo too. Many thanks!

Wonderful to read about this condition other men experience and to know I am not alone.

4 Years ago I had a neck operation and suffered with my nurves as we know it takes time to heal but it eventually did in a bit more than 2 years but still have nurve twitching in one hand.

3 Years ago I developed a reddish scaly patch on the one side of my penis shaft, no other condition. It disappeared after treating it with normal lotion and keeping the patch moist, although skin were shed from the patch. It took about 3 weeks to dissappear.

After another month the patch re appeared same spot maybe a bit bigger. I visited the doctor who instantly diagnosed hat it is a decease called Bowen's disease and prescribed a cream that helped alot especially because the patch would become itchy at times. It still took about 3weeks to heal. 6 months the same thing appeared, back to the doctor I went and he told me that it will stay until my nerve system heals it self, prescribed more cream and I applied when ever it re appears. I even asked for STD testing as I did suspect it could be a reason and did not believe the doctor, but the tests were clear

Eventually the patch disappeared totally and now I had no re occurance for about 1 year.

Nov 2019 I started with a burning sensation after urinating and the tip were red and sensitive, applied some fungal creams and it relieves the burning a bit.

When to the doctor who found an urinal infection and after one set of pills the infection was gone but the red tip and burning sensation never stopped even now I have it, but I can say that it is alot milder after he gave me STD antibiotics 3 day course, although I never tested positive. It was at this time when I saw the base of the penis glans became dark red/purple but would dissappear and reappear. Small red dots like Balanitis would also form after masturbation or sex.

I had a urine test this week and all is clear but the red burning tip is still present. I went to the doctor this week because I developed a hemorrhoid and the burning sometimes spiky itching on the tip became more intense.

The doctor wants to send me to a urologist but after a have read this forum I tend to think that the nervous system plays a major role in all of this.

Hoping that someone can also relate to my symptoms but still looking and are hopefull for a cure.

I've read through the whole thing and I've read that many have had some kind of trauma. Meanwhile I also believe that it has something to do with it. 2 years ago I tore my frenulum during sex. Since then I always have the symptoms but only after ejaculation: swollen and red tip. Stinging and a slight burning in the urethra. After a few hours it becomes normal again, the redness is only slightly visible and I have no symptoms.

Hi! I'm from Romania, and I have the same problem. My corona glans is dark purple and I have the top of the glans red and very sensitive if I touch it with something aswell as the corona glans. ( The rest of the glans is normal, I can touch it normally)

I'm a bit frustrated because I'm still virgin (18 yo) and now that I have girlfriend she wants to do that and I don't know if it's possible having sex or not, and If it's possible I'm a bit scared if I will have pain doing it.

For sure I'll go to the urologist and hope this can be solved, because, for true, I'm feeling a bit ill thinking on it this days.

(Really sorry If I wrote something bad)

I'm new here and just finnished reading the whole thread.

I'm 19, from Germany and i have the following symptoms since 12 or 13 I'm not exactly sure:

    • Red swollen penis tip (meatus or whatever)
    • Burning/stinging urethrea after masturbation (not all the time but certainly most of the time when masturbate multiple times a day)
    • sometimes burning urethrea while/after taking a p**s
    • sensitive glans that hurt when I rub it lightly or something (that has gotten better with time)
    • It basically looks the same as OPs dick.

I tried clotrimazol 2% and I don't think it did anything.

I will now try to not masturbate for a few weeks (maybe 1-2 months), only wash with water and dry off everytime.

I will also purchase Arctuvan which is supposed to help with urinary tract infection

I have not yet seen a doctor because of my social anxiety but I will if this doesn't help.

Overall, I'm glad it doesn't usually hurt that much but I'm very self conscious about it.

To everyone who has faced this problem - I have been following this forum for quite a few months. I have faced a similar problem as you all and somehow got it cured. First of all, to tell about myself, I am 29 year old guy from a country with tropical weather conditions with no sex experience however frequent with masturbation due to mental stress. One morning I happened to see few bumps in penis glans and meatus very red and inflamed. I had several visits to GP, Dermatologists, Urologists and the problem was unresolved even after taking several medications (Flucanozole, Bacterial antibiotics that include Doxycyclin, Cepodem, Creams like clotrimazole and sertaconazole etc). Doctors never suggested anything new apart from asking me to maintain hygeine (Cleaning glans, smegma etc etc) After losing faith in all doctors and medicines I took the below steps to cure the illness -

    1. Most of us are on stress or mental trauma - Yes it's a very sensitive area and could be irritating and it's our mental stress that is taking the toll of our body. So I just chose to forget about this and move on.
    2. Abstinence of masturbation for 8 weeks - Yes it's true. I gave up masturbating for almost 2 months and I strongly advise anyone having this problem to abstain from sex and masturbation. Now, masturbation is never a problem for me like before.
    3. Keep the Penis glans dry - I always kept the penis glans dry. After shower, I would ensure I retract my penis glans and dry it out under a table fan for atleast 10-15 minutes or use a dry tissue cloth to keep it dry and I found the difference in my symptoms after 15 days.
    4. Stop using creams on the penis glans - Steroid creams and Clotrimazone / Sertaconazole cream application should not be extensively used as same was advised by my treating doctor. Ofcourse, they give you relief but this is only temporary relief but not permanent.
    5. Check for diabetes - I was advised by my doctor to check for diabetes which turned out to be normal. I was not suggested by my doctor for STD screening as I never had a sexual intercourse.
    6. Diet changes - I chose to limit sugar and spicy foods that aggravates the situation.
    7. Circumcision / Freenuloplasty advised - I was advised to undergo a full circumcision or freenuloplasty by my treating urologist but I did not undergo as this is an elective procedure that was suggested and it was not a medical emergency for me.

Thanks for reading. Although I am not a medical practitioner, this is just an experience that I would like to share. Please also visit your treating doctors for any weird symptoms. For now I see a very good improvement.

I am happy to hear yours has almost gone, thats great!

but as you say ALMOST. I would advise you sustain from masterbating for as long as you can, as I had circumcision and it appeared to have gone until I healed up fully and resumed sexual activity, then slowly it came back

you’ve done the hard work, now make sure it is permanent, I would double the time you have already done if I could again, that is my advice

Thanks. I would definitely follow your advice on masturbation. It's seriously shocking and surprising to hear the problem re-appeared after circumcision and this kind of puts me down as circumcision was my last option. Fortunately I don't have any problems now but I fear what would I do if it re-occurs. Are you on any medications / therapy now?

circumcision will help, it prevents any moisture which is great, but overall it isnt worth it

i get swelling on the shaft where it would have healed underneath from the circumcision every time I am sexually active and it lasts days, so overall circumcision not reccommended

i am on some antibiotic crap for months that is not doing anything, only thing that helps is not using my penis

i do however recommend everyone try reverse kegels, its popped up a few times but takes months for results, if we all started doing it then we can all in a few months say whether it has gotten better by any degree

    Hi all.

Have very much the same symptoms as most here. I am circumcised. Had this going on for years on and off and will admit that ive had periods of intense sex/masturbation thats caused friction burns.

Red, swollen meatus after ejaculation (pretty much only then) that is painful and very sensitive to the touch. Anything rubbing on it feels awful. Also red blotches on the head. Sometimes shiny and scaly too, or dry looking.

Some days randomly also needing to urinate frequently with pressure on the lower abdomen.

I often suffer with constipation and wonder if its weakened my pelvic floor muscles.

Docs so far have tested all my blood and urine, and everything was totally normal. I've taken anti fungal tablets too. Other than that i've only had that 1 conversation about it, so back to docs.

I believe it could be linked to the pelvic floor muscle as some have said and will start exercising it. I'm also going to stop masturbating. I do far too often, i believe.

    Will monitor the thread.

    Thanks for sharing all!

wow, this is really starting to ps me off but that there is no diagnosis here! I clicked on all the pictures that it could be associated with and I couldn't really find anything that was a direct match. But it looks like the most direct match were some pics of contact dermatitis (some, not all). For me, it started out just at the bottom of the penis head and at the top of the shaft (in the circumsized area). I'm circumsized btw (tangent; at first it was making me mad to be raised religious because i thought the lack of extra skin where most of the redness started might be the cause (from circumcision). but i don't think that after online research finally making me realize that it's not just chafing). I thought it was just chafing from playing a lot of sports. I would get really sweaty, as in my underwear was soaking wet, and eventually my whole dick shaft was super red, but bloody red all around the dick shaft (mostly playing tennis in soaking wet underwear at least every other day until i couldn't play anymore because of this dick "injury"). Then it dried and got scaly, flaking off skin like a snake. but never healing, just starting to itch more and more. Then spreading down the shaft to the balls (probably from the horrific itching/scratching). I figured it would go away if I didn't rub the shaft. Rubbing the shaft definitely did make it worse, but either way, it didn't go away. i even stopped playing sports for over a month and i am continuing this completely unactive lifestyle, quarantined on the couch, nonstop with my ck out. I've only had sex without a condom once in my life. And that was five years ago and only about a few times with the same girl. hell, I haven't even had sex with a condom, kissed, or hugged anyone in a couple of years. idk why, I just never go out or meet anyone i suppose. the point is, that it can't be an STD. but i feel I've finally made progress when I discovered it might be contact dermatitis. and I've started using a lot of over-the-counter cortisone and antibiotic ointment. It's not as bad along the shaft but it's still just as red in the circumcised area of the shaft and lower head. Plus dead skin still scales off after it dries. I'm not going to the doctor, especially after reading this thread and finding that no doctor has figured out what it is. I figure out more than them on my own every time I've had a problem before anyway. the only time I have ever gone to the doctor is to get a specific medication after I was able to self diagnose the issue. And even then they won't give me what i need. But yet they charge me a bunch of money because they are thieves. going to the doctor's pointless, unless you're trying to get the CCP Virus or MRSA. anyways, is this what you have? Have you finally figured out what the problem was? Did any of you find a solution yet? does your issue also make your dick itch like pure hell?

Update on that bloody red chafing area of my penis, that was just in the area of where i was circumsized.

I just keep putting cortisone on it. Used a little bit of this stuff i saw on the shelf called psoriasin. Tried to get a few hours of sun on it too. But it finally went away after at least 2 and a half months. maybe it was 2 or 3 weeks after starting cortisone it started healing. a very slow healing wound. still not sure exactly what it was (fungus, bacteria, or just chafing).
