Is this Balanitis? I'm 21, had it most of my whole life, no treatment has worked

Hello, I've seen a doctor many times about a mild condition I have on my penis glans, have been prescribed 3 different creams including Betnovate and a Hydrocortisone, a course of antibiotics and a swab which said I was clear and still the condition remains. I used to have a tight foreskin up until last year which is now sorted from stretching, and I think the condition began during my teenage years when I wasn't able to wash the glans. It often feels dry and can sometmes feel slightly painful when the foreskin retracts, almost like its rubbing and the sensitivity everywhere is quite high still, not sure if this is due to the condition. The urethra opening is always red and inflamed and red areas appear frequently around the glans itself. Any advise on what I should do would be much appreciated, have attached a photo too. Many thanks!

I'm not absoloutly sure on what everyone here is suffering from but the glans is very sensitive to damage and not very quick to heal- you need to avoid any sexual activity including masterbation for what seems to be months. do not wash your penis with soap(Ever) as it's not made for the penis and acts as a sensitizer and may cause this type of reaction. clean with running lukewarm water. all of you seem to not realize that this part of the penis is supposed to have bacteria that help fight off infection and soap kills that ability. for now real honey would be your friend- it is used on common skin burns or irritations as it kills off bacteria, serves as a moisturizer and has healing properties- this is used in the after treatment of pearly penile papules removal and cuts the healing time by 25%.dont use a whole lot of it- a little goes a long way. use it on a day off at home(it gets sticky and uncomfortable at work) for the entire day then wash it off and then do this every other day and it should help. I've had this issue as a urologist I can certainly say that it aided in healing this damage for myself

Hi all. hope this finds you well. went to another doctor and she told me to get 'Cicaplast baume 5'. its not a steroid cream so you can buy it over the counter. It's what you put on skin if you've burnt it so its used to sooth, relax and heal skin. I have been using it for about 4 days about 3 times a day completely covering the glands in it. when i shower i use the E45 shower cream to clean it off. if you are using soap, stop using it. soap will only cause this to get worse. I would strongly recommend this cream tho. its the most improvement I've seen in the last year and a half.

I am very glad that i found this group. I have felt hopeless thinking that this only happened to me. I have lived for over 15 years with this. it has gotten worse in the last few years. I will try to apply some of the recommendations that you guys have made and will follow up with the group.

I have this exact same problem. It seems to get more red after ejaculating. The tip of my penis is red and dry, and there is kind a red semi-circle just to the lower right of the tip.
I tried an anti-fungal and antibacterial from my doc and wash regularly. Nothing works. I do notice that if I don't masturbate for a week or two, it subsides a little. I think it's triggered by our own semen, but who's to know.
I've seen multiple threads on this on different forums and everyone seems to be clean for STI's.
It's way more noticeable when my penis is erect and if it's like super erect, it gets really red in the middle of my head from the tip down. Almost like its inflamed.
When it's flaccid and I've not had any activity for a week or so, it's barely noticeable. Which is annoying because when I first showed it to my doctor, he could barely see it. I had to explain it's only worse when it's erect.
I feel it's some form of balanitis but there are different versions. I saw one form "zoon's balanitis" which was cured by using bactroban (a topic antibiotic) in a study. Maybe someone could try this?
Most of the time I don't worry about it, but every now and again I get really down and anxious about it.

Glad I found this, as it's exactly what I'm suffering with.
I'm currently on Horse Chestnut tablets (aescin) as an anti inflammatory, which helps a bit.
I don't really want to go back to the doctors just yet, but I'll give my current treatment some time and let you all know.

Hi,
I am from Australia and I am having exact same issue for more than a year now. Tested for everything and all results are negative like you all have. Went to several doctors and no luck. One dermatologist said it is balanitis and there is no cure for balanitis for now.
I have taken AF150 anitibiotics and creams but nothing cures it permanently. I have started cutting down sugar and trying to maintain healthy diet and gluten and diary free diet and hoping it will cure itself. Also started doing green juicing. Did not notice much difference yet but want to keep continuing and hopefully it will cure itself.
Do you guys notice any swelling on your penis meatus (tip of the head) like lips? I get that daily in the morning after urination and later after few hours it becomes normal and swelling go away. The glans become shiny and redness does not go away. I dont get any red small pimples now but i had seen these initially when all these issues started.
Looks like a lot of guys are going through these issues looking at the forum post and none of them got it cured fully.

Hey guys, I'm fairly certain I was born with this issue. The meatus of the penis or the lips or the opening of the urethra what ever you want to call it, has always been red and slightly swollen since I can remember. I also had tight foreskin until I managed to stretch it out when I was 15, although it still tend to not run smoothly over the head of my penis and doesn't cover it properly a lot of the time. I remember when I was very young my parents bought cream that would be applied to the opening of the urethra which I assume was to treat the swelling but it did nothing. I'm 19 now and I've noticed that sometimes the opening of the urethra can be much more red and swollen particularly after masturbation/ejaculation. I think generally when there is less heat/blood flow/friction and better coverage from the foreskin, the swelling and redness tends to die down although it never goes away completely. I went to a doctor once he said there was nothing wrong at all.

I dont think so. Looks normal and healthy to me. Mine is red and grey colour and also has a fairly red/purple bottom of the glans.

Hey guys, so im going to try some new methods to try and fix this. New to this fourm but felt like we could all help each other. Im going to try not have sex or ejaculate for a month and i will let you guys know if this improves the redness. Im also not going to use soaps only creams.
I also have a little fix for you guys
For some reason this actually helps, get out a fan and pull your foreskin back and let the fan blow on it for 10 mins. Now for some reason this reduces sensitivity. I can actually touch it when i do this.

little update from me
So atm they are testing me for Crohns disease. Apparently this gut inflammation disease can lead to swelling and inflammation of the penis.
other than this I have seen suggestions on here that I have tried:
I tried raw coconut oil, for 2 months, this did not help
I tried raw manuka honey with UMF 20+ and this did not help
I tried not having any sexual activity for over a month, it did not flare up as bad visually but it certainly did not dissapear. Strangely my physical discomfort actually gets worse if I avoid sexual activity sometimes, and it becomes more inflamed.
One thing I did notice, I went on holiday and was in the sea allot so lots of exposure to salt water, visually it has been the best it has looked in a long time, I would suggest washing your penis in luke warm salt water and see if this helps.
one observation from me: I had this condition for 3 years and then got talked into getting a circumcision under the belief that it was recurrent balantis and that this would cure it. The shock to my glands from suddenly being exposed constantly seemed to subdue it. I actually thought it was gone at one point, and thought well, glad thats over. Then the sexual activity started to creep back, as you could imagine not being able to do anything for months and then believing you were cured. But so did the redness. Now I'm back were I started, just uncircumcised, which overall isn't as good as before sexually but certainly dulls the sensitivity, and keeps the area dry so you dont experience as much irritation.
