Is this fibromyalgia?

I havent been officially diagnosed but I was told by a doctor that theyre leaning towards me having fibromyalgia...im not sure if my symptoms fit. My primary doc pressed on some fm points on my back a couple weeks ago but it didnt hurt at the time but now when i press on other points its actually sore. But my main symptoms are intense burning in arms and legs (mostly thighs) when laying down. If i fall asleep on the couch it doesnt happen or when i first go to bed ill be fine..the burning usually happens later on like after getting up in the middleof the night..I also have very visible veins in the arms and legs as well. It seems like the veins show up where it hurts. Theyre especially prominent on my feet...my hands and feet will also hurt either when laying down or during the day...And i noticed my feet have higher arches now, it looks like the skin at the arch is thinning and i see a lot of veins there and even my fingers and toes have veins that werent visible before. Every morning my legs look purplish and has a mottled look to it but that eventually subsides, its mostly on the thighs...a couple months ago this all started with pain in only the hands and feet and then progressed to this...is this simmilar to fm??

it has been scientifically proven that nearly all people suffering from chronic illnesses/pain conditions, forms of arthritis, fatigue syndromes and anxiety and depression (not a complete list obviously) will in fact have a vitamin D deficiency of some degree due to the fact that their illness and individual symptoms result in them not leaving the house or spending time outdoors as frequently as those who do not have any of these health issues.

vitamin D deficiency is not isolated to fibromyalgia! Anything that has an impact on time spent outdoors will subsequently affect levels of Vitamin D.

ive mentioned it already they dont know why but dont think the veins look serious

It is wrong to base the advice that you are giving to people based soley upon how many people on this particular forum experience a certain symptom.

The numbers of us on this forum who unfortunately suffer with fibro is miniscule in comparison to the actual number of sufferers as a whole. To say that only three people with fibro have a problem with veins is both inaccurate and very misleading to the original poster.

    Hi Anna

Just wondered did you get any further in a diagnosis?

I had the exactly the same as you, saying about the burning muscles in the night. It was that which prompted me to see the GP, as started interfering in my sleep, prior to the muscle burning at night I was getting what felt like hot flushes during the day with heighten never stimulation, not pain as such, just noticed touch more.

GP didn't really know what wrong, I am a male so GP totally staying clear of Fibromyalgia , even though I mentioned I am a strong case of symptoms for it. GP referred me to Neurology (appointment in Nov) and in the meantime placed me on 150mg a day of Pregabalin (only 10 days) in so not sure if gonna work?

hi anna, I notice you posted this 8 months ago so not sure you'll see this.. was wondering how you got on? I also noticed in some of the comments you mentioned about the giving birth.. I had my son (second child) 8 weeks ago now, and ever since I've had issue after issue.. the symptom list is unreal! but I too also have really visible veins aswell and like you say, thinning skin.. it's odd isnt it! it's made me suffer with health anxiety so badly! I've had all bloods done - all ok! aswell as ct and mri scans - again clear and ecgs all clear. latest doctor mentioned fibro, but I had already wondered that anyway with a few family members that suffer with it. just curious how you got on with it all and got an answer in the end?

      hello,

I thought I was the only one with these issues. Unfortunately I never got an answer. And it did cause severe health anxiety for me as well. I had multiple tests done too, with no answers...except I haven't had an MRI..I got 2 ct scans done though. Doctors also thought fibromyalgia but that doesn't explain the veins and thinning skin I dont think. After a lot of digging I found my symptoms correlated with something called ehlers danlos syndrome. There's many different types of it but I think this site has a forum about it. The only thing is I've read that people with this condition had unexplained symptoms since childhood and I haven't heard much about symptoms being brought on by giving birth...but the symptoms seemed to match perfectly...my primary doctor said she thought it was inflammation but I wasn't satisfied because it was nonspecific. But I've given up on getting an actual diagnosis because i think when you go through all these tests and doctors still dont know, its reassuring to me that it's not what you fear it is. it's still frustrating though.

it is a very frustrating thing to go through you're right, I've self diagnosed myself so many times too because of Google! doctors have now begged me to come off Google because I'm only making myself worse. They are reluctant to do more tests because I've already had so many that have ruled out everything. When this virus goes I'm being referred to a rheumatologist for the fibromyalgia, obviously I can't go now because they'd have to see me personally. But as you say doesn't explain the thinning skin etc.. maybe it's just something that can happen after birth? who knows! 😦

yeah I did that too, looked on Google constantly...it doesn't help because you think the worst and then you second guess what doctors tell you ..its a vicious cycle so I just gave up lol. I still find it strange it all started after giving birth. Do you happen to have scoliosis, which is a curve in your spine? That's something I was diagnosed with at 12 years old and the condition I believe I might have has scoliosis as a common thing. Also where are the veins most visible for you? For me, it's my thighs and feet and parts of the chest. I also had wha ur

I also had what looked like tears on my skin after doing yoga a few times. it's like my skin was stretched from the yoga poses, it was odd

yeah I'm always second guessing the doctors, people who have spent years learning health and then we believe Google lol.... I have never been diagnosed with that no, but it does curve however I believe that's just my posture. my feet veins are visible but it's mainly my hands, fingers and wrists. I know everyone can see theres but mine are awful! I wouldn't say mine was stretched either but does seem to have gone thin, almost like scaly (faintly) and dry. The weirdest part is definitely since giving birth, it's scary.

hi Anna, I don't know if you're going to see this, but i hope you have found some help and a diagnosis by now. I have been dealing with all those symptoms for exactly 18 months and still undiagnosed, all my bloodwork came back ok, ive had MRIs to my cervical spine and brain and everything looks good. I also feel the heaviness on my legs, but in addition to that i also have terrible leg pain, so bad that i am unable to sleep at night, I clearly remember the very first time i brought this up to my gp i went crying to this appointment because the pain was sooo bad. But about 4 months ago i noticed how all my veins in my whole body are showing, but they are even more visible than what they already are at night, by the end of the day my feet look greenish because of all my veins showing, even on my toes, same with hands and fingers. I also have this weird tingling and goosebumps on my left upper arm only, by my shoulder. I am so thankful for my rheumatologist, whom diagnosed me with fibromyalgia, and sent me over to vascular surgeon because of swelling and terrible pain on my whole right arm, and turns out i have thoracic outlet syndrome. When i was sent over to a vein specialist for my visible veins I was told my issue was not venous and said i probably have fibro. Being diagnosed with fibromyalgia is fairly new to me, and all ive been prescribed is gabapentin 600mg, i have some good days but most of my days are spent with pain. I am only 31 and prior to all this nonsense i was pretty active and fit. Now I cant even carry a big pan by the handle without pain, or open my car door without being in pain.
