is this normal..?

Hello everyone, I know I've been posting a bunch on here lately but it seems you all are so understanding and I could really use that right now!

So I've been having chest pain (left side) for a few weeks now and today was my first appointment. I've also had palps, and some shortness of breath. I went in and the doctor told me my heart rate was at 110 bpm. He did and ekg and told me my heart rate was very fast (again) and my bp is slightly above normal. He told me to come back next week for an echo and also to have a monitor put on. I honestly thought this was going to be a one appointment type of thing - like I go in and he tells me whether I'm dying or not. Now I have to wait a whole week for the test and I'm FREAKING out. What do they do in an echo? Why does he need me to do this? What if something comes back wrong? He said it could be stress.. but I'm so scared it's not. sad I'm worried sick. Just wondering about others experience.. is this normal?

Typically anxiety does cause chest pain, I get it all the time and only when I've had anxiety for awhile because your heart does pump faster during an attack. And anxiety does cause your blood pressure to rise and this causes a whole bunch of different things. Do not worry, an echo is nothing bad. It's still like an EKG but the echo will monitor your heart more in depth. It just listening to the sound waves in your heart more. Nothing bad and nothing scary smile they will ask you to breathe in and reposition yourself just to see how your heart is. It is a good test to have if you're worried but you're just having anxiety so don't worry

Thank you! How long have your appointments lasted? And do they cover you? I know, stupid, but idk who my doctor will be and for some reason I'm feeling modest...

Well you will have to take off your shirt and stuff but you will get a gown to cover up. And I think the length varies on the Doctor and patient and what's going on. I don't think it will be too long.

Was you anxious going in today? Mines always 110+ in the doctors get home and it's 70 again, my ekgs always come back normal. The echocardiogram test sees how big the chambers and ventricles are in your heart and sees if they are working properly did he say your ECG was fine or if it was just fast or if it was just fsat?

Yeah I was nervous as hell lol. He said the ECG said my heart beat was fast. I asked him if that was all and he kinda just nodded yes.

Do you have anything to take another one now? I know mine goes fast when I'm anxious, especially being wired up to a machine! If not try take one manually. Mine went to 112 during an ECG then 10 minutes later talking to the nurse it was 70, (this was in A&E!) sometimes during panic attacks mines gone as high as 135-140. Don't worry too much about it. After all worrying will only make you more anxious and it won't even solve anything. smile

Just took it manually and it's at around 80. I just don't know why he still wants me to do an echo..

Would you prefer him to be safe or sorry?

Just a precaution you ask anyone on the anxiety forum and they'll all have had heart tests done. smile

I had the monitor on for 48hrs last week have to wait 2weeks for result ,do not worry about it my heart rate was very high whilst having it fitted  but know it calmed down immediately I left the hospital , I assume your Dr just wants to rule out any other reasons for you feeling the way you do and that is a good thing , I am expecting mine to come back all clear but I will still have the horrible symptoms of anxiety but I will not then worry about my heart .good luck

Yeah I'm looking forward to being done with this - hopefully soon! Good luck to you! Knowing it is only anxiety really is half the battle.

I've been there! My heart rate can easily get to 135bpm when anxious. I was admitted once with 150bpm Dr thought it was an pulmonary embolism but test ruled it out ekg normal. Also had an echo normal. My heart rate is usually above 100bpm at the Drs at home (when I'm not anxious it is usually 76-85) I was terrified for months that I had a heart problem or was about to have a heart attack particualy as my inflammation markers are always higher than normal crp always above 5-10, ( I'm only 33 non smoker, slightly overweight) now I'm a bit more relaxed (about my heart at least I've moved on to other problems now)

Hard not to get nervous at the dr.'s! When I think about how fast my heart is beating, it beats even faster. rolleyes

been said already, but i wouldn't worry at all about 110bpm i had regular reading of 110 - 130 when anxiety was bad, i bet it settles down when your not anxious ,stressed, worried. dont worry if you was a concern your doc would have dealt with it differently.

Good point. Even though it had been said, I'll take all the reassurance I can get! Thank you.
