So its now day 5 post op and i'm off all the pain medication and I can potter around for very short periods but you do have to listen to your own body. If it starts pulsating down in the foot - I'm immediately sitting back down and trying again in an hour or so. It wouldn't put me off having the other side done at anytime in the future. It isn't anyway as bad as I imagined it was going to be. Definitely the right decision.

Isn't it great being over the hump Elaine? Yes, listening to your body and elevating for at least an hour after the foot begins to complain has worked extremely well for me.

I haven't had any pain medication and I feel grand. I can walk ok with the crutches and I managed to get a bath with a carrier bag on my foot....Yipee ! I'm starting to feel great again. It's less than a week since my surgery. So to anyone who is terrified about the pending surgery.... don't be, it's not half as bad as I was expecting. Being bored is definitely the worst bit.

Hi , I'm feeling a little confused . I saw my consultant last week , I had my stitches removed and I asked when I would be able to have the other foot done . He was very vague about answering me his reply was it could be 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or a year , my plan was to have the other one done ASAP , has anyone else had a similar response. I don't know if I have to go back to my GP and get another referral , he wants to see me again in 3 weeks time for X-ray , just wondering if it's worth mentioning my concerns to him .

Been a few days since replying as I gave been away in a caravan recuperating. I would imagine you sshouldn't need a new referral to see the Surgeon. I actually work in the NHS. It does depend on what you were referred initially for. I would ring his secretary up and ask her advice on this. She should be able to help you. I'm now 2 wks post op and feel fabulous. I can walk fine in this Jimmy Choose shoe and if I put a training shoe on the other foot it balances the walking out so I don't bother with crutches around the house. I am totally pain free. It hurts if I put my weight on the big toe but it's only 2 weeks so I would expect that. Tomorrow I go and see my consultant and get this bandage changed. But overall I think I made the right decision. It wouldn't stop me doing all over again on the other side. Even with 4 broken bones. Positive attitude + good family & friend support for the first 3 or 4 days and your half way there.

Hi, I think it's about six weeks off work but I'm not 100% you think you would at least get DHC although they are not brilliant either!
