PPS everyone? I've been wearing my toe separators today and they seem to make the pain worse round the bunion area. Is this anyone else's experience? Whilst I want to help my toes mend as straight as possible, I don't want to be causing them extra pain. Any experience grate fully received.. Thanks V 👣👣

Five week anniversary today......................only toe separators and heel walker shoes with feet up about 90% of the time- I've been very good BUT now starting to worry about one foot being straighter than the other!I know that my left foot bunion was a lot worse than the one on the right foot but still I'm fretting about the left foot. Euch- we can all find something to worry about even when there probably isn't anything to be concerned about! Next week will tell all when I see the consultant.

I have managed to get into my hill walking shoes which is good but as I'm not weight bearing have no idea how they will feel after a few hours- maybe not the best look for work...... The toe separators have been fine for me so maybe VJ yours are maybe a bit wide at the moment- when your feet are less swollen they may fit better and not cause discomfort? Mine are a little narrow now as I was given them at two weeks when my feet were a bit more swollen.

    Sleep well all.

I've not got separators- I've got Bauerfeind ValguLoc Bunion Splints- only worn when my feet are elevated- have started a week ago to 'walk' about barefoot- still only 10% of the time though- 90% elevated- am just 4 1/2 weeks post op

Day 3 post op... painful in the morning but controlled well with tabs. Tried to put on that gorgeous black shoe to go on the toilet and I couldn't even out my foot on the floor. But it's still not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Any ideas on how long it will be before o can manage to put any weight on my heel ?

    Hi Elaine

I couldn't put my left foot down for 4-5 days but I could my right so that made it bearable for getting to the loo.

I found high ish doses of Ibuprofen and ice helped to reduce the swelling, and I did take Tramadol for 4 days as I can't tolerate codeine, it makes you feel nauseous but it did the trick, hope you find you cope better tomorrow

Hi Elaine....I hear you loud and clear. I was there just 9 days ago. My foot hurt a lot when pressure on heel for first 3 days....even with the meds. I think a lot of us had similar. I had to use my scooter to get to the WC door and that was only about 7 steps away!. I actually never took my post-op shoe off for a few days even when on the bed cause I had the feeling it would be too difficult to get back on. I sleep on top of the bed with light covering and elevated on a regular pillow on top of a 10" ortho wedge pillow I bought on Amazon. After the first 3 days each day got significantly better. In looking back the initial stage seemed forever, but now I can't believe how much better it all is and how significant the daily improvement is.

Wishing you as much comfort and possible confused

Oh, and another thing. I found quasi side of foot walking helpful those first days. Kind of takes some of the weight off the heel.

Thanks Rena. I gave just been using my crutches and not even putting my foot in the shoe. I just hop on one foot. I can't bear any weight at all as it seems to pull at the front

Day 4 post op. Think I will stop taking the Tramadol today. I don't think I need it I think the Paracetamol and ibuprofen are doing a good job. I still can't put any weight on my foot but im getting more confident with my crutches. Boredom is the pain !

That's good news Elaine , at least you feel you can reduce your painkillers , I'm still taking my paracetamol and ibuprofen , but only twice a day now , I have pain in the arch of my foot ,but managed to walk, or hobble around Tesco last night to help or hinder the shopping trip , it took me well over an hour !

I have a date to get my stitches out its 8 th April , I'm looking forward to having my foot redressed , seems like everyone is doing great ,

That's good news happy face. I'm just getting a bit cheesed off with bring so still. I am do used to pottering about ....lying with my foot up is alien to me. Just gonna have to shut up and get on with it. I am sore on the base of my foot more than the bunion site. That's with the neuroma and the Weils procedure I think. Can't be all bad coz I managed to pain my toe nails around my bandage. Seriously bored :-)

Yeah I know , I'm same as you I never sit still always doing something and yes it's making me a bit stir crazy , I can sit for a couple of hours and then I'm either walking on crutches or hopping everywhere , I'm getting told off by the family all the time ! Frustrating times , do you have to have surgery on your other foot ?

No thank god. I actually only got referred for the pain caused by the neuroma. The Surgeon said I needed excision of neuroma / scarf / weils... but my other foot is fine. If I have to watch anymore daytime TV I am going to scream. Hopefully in another couple of days I can start putting more weight on this damn foot. How many days was is when you could actually put your heel down without pain?

Luckily I have been able to wear the boot from the day I had surgery , the OT came with boot in one hand and crutches in her other and got me up and walking , even had to do stairs just hours after my op , it's uncomfortable at times walking but I can weight bare on my foot as it's built up on heel so my toes are elevated sort of thing , I have to have other foot done as well and my right one is far worse than my left one was , I just hope the weather will be good when I have the next op so at least I can elevate in the garden
