Is this normal

Hi everyone. Ive been on prozac 20mg for four weeks now. I still get diarrhea in the mornings and sometimes throughout the day. Is this normal?. I still get anxiety I'm thinking that causes the diarrhea aswell. Sometimes the anxiety is over the roof. Im about to get my period so I think it makes it worse.

Yes unfortunately those sound like side effects of it.  They can last up to 12 weeks.  My Dr says they will go away eventually.  I took Zoloft for over 5 weeks, and the anxiety got really bad around week 4.  I switched to Prozac a week ago.  It seems like the anxiety is not as bad as on the Zoloft, but I know it does take a long time to go away.  If you can function ok, try to hang in there.  Sometimes the Dr gives Xanax or something like that for a few months while dealing with the anxiety.

I forgot to mention the diarrhea went away for me around week 6.  It is normal for side effects.

Hi Clay , yes as others say theses do sound like normal side effects of this med. I'm 3 weeks in , and anxiety isn't as bad as it was I'm still feeling anxious at some point of the day, and have suffered with diarrhoea often. As others have said this med takes time to work fully . So here's hoping it won't be too long till you start to feel better, that's all I'm hoping for .

Hi Clay,  yes hon what you are experiencing sounds like side effects. I had the same. Although I no longer get a period I know many people on this site who have said they can feel worse during it. Hold on, it will get better. Come and chat here if you need reassurance.

    Big hugs

    Hello Clay,

I'm just in to week 5 and had the worst anxiety that I have ever had a few days back. It's just the way this med goes unfortunately. Things should start looking up in just a few weeks time. I still get the runny tummy too. The side effects are shocking but they will pass and it will all be worth it.

Hi dom. I started feeling nauseous again.

That's about the only side effect I haven't had Clay. Like all of them tho', they will pass. We just have to take one day at a time. That's me being positive but believe me I don't feel so.

Hi stacey. You get nauseous on and off. So do I. How long have you been on prozac. It seems stress trigger's it more.

Yes I was on Zoloft for almost 6 weeks then switched to Prozac a week ago.  I didn’t have the nausea we the Zoloft, but I am getting it with the Prozac.

Yes it gave me nausea aswell I was also on zoloft for many years . then I stopped it. And the doctor put me on prozac

The Dr told me I wouldn’t be starting over with side effects because I was on the Zoloft over 5 weeks.  It was ok until day 5 on the Prozac, now the anxiety, worse depression, insomnia, etc is coming.  I hope it goes away.

I have found the majority of doctors have no true idea of side effects and how long it can take for these meds to settle. I also was told that all I was experiencing was not side effects. Thank god I found this site and the stories of others who were or had gone through the exact same things. I had no side effects with Prozac the first time 29 years ago, or cipralex or Zoloft. This time around I had every side effect. I thought I was going crazy. That I would never make it through this nightmare. That I would never get better, feel normal again. But you will. It's slow but it does work. You are NOT alone in what you are experiencing. There are so many of us that have made it through to the other side. You can too.

      Im here to prove it.
