Is this pain caused by anxiety

I have some bad bouts of anxiety. I am struggling with anxiety about pains I am having I don't have a job or anything to do during the day so all I do is worry about my pains I am having.

The newest edition is pain with swallowing and a pain too the right of my sternum and an upset tummy. It feels as if something is scraping past my esophagus on the inside and then I get chest pain when I get worried.

I had an chest xray done earlier this month because I had chest pain and believed I had lung cancer. I also had a sputum test done because I coughed up some blood after quitting smoking. I am a heavy vaper but stopped vaping today.

I have seen numerous doctors and it seems that all of them is telling me my problems I am having is due to anxiety.

I also get bad muscle tension and spasms and pain in the area of the perceived problem. Like now I have spasms and muscle tension around my sternum at the spot where I perceive pain.

I don't know if anxiety can cause this problems?

Thank you for reading

Hi Amore anxiety causes every one of the symptoms you have described believe me I have had all of these .Sounds like you have plenty of thinking time I work on my own all day and drive myself mad thinking and worrying .Go and see your gp see if he /she can help this is a horrible thing to have .so many people on this site have the exact symptoms as you and it really is so hard to get your head round the fact that anxiety can actually cause this ,all the best to you

Thank you for the reply. It is so erratic yesterday I still had chest pain on the side of my ribs. Today it is gone now I have pain directly on my sternum. It is insane how fast they change.

Yeah anxiety can cause nearly every symptom and sensation you can think of. I've had loads over the years, chest pains, breast pain, tired or weak arms, heavy limbs, pins and needles in various locations, localized aches and pains like throbbing in my toes or fingers, headache's, feeling like I have something stuck or lodged in my throat etc. They only started reducing once I stopped Googling every symptom, went back to therapy and started accepted the diagnosis of it being anxiety related. I also came off Amitriptyline that I was on for a long time and went on Citalopram and whether it's just co-incidence or not, but o feel much better since switching!

I am very glad that I am not the only one experiencing these symptoms. So a way to curb this is stop googling every symptome because the first result is always cancer and I have a massive fear of cancer and think that I have a change of it being cancer.

I guess I have to accept the posibility of it being anxiety although the symptoms doesn't feel like anxiety and there is physical pain when I swallow or when I swallow hard a scratching sensation on the right hand side that might be because of acid reflux.

I guess this can be also because of a fear of having pain when swallowing and getting very anxious before I eat or drink just waiting for the slightest hint of pain. The only thing I can do still is a gastroscopy to set my mind at ease but it is too expensive as I don't have insurance.
