Is this really Acid Reflux i'm experiencing?

Hi, for the past 4 months I have been suffering daily severe symptoms with breathlessness, burning and pressure sensation in my back and chest, pressure in my throat which makes me want to cough, burping and most recently tiredness. These don't necessarily occur after food, i have the breathless and pressure feeling all day every day.

I went to a private hospital for tests under my medical insurance as my NHS GP couldn't give me all the tests i wanted for peace of mind as i'm an extreme worrier and after Googling my symptoms i was in tears! So 2 weeks ago i had blood tests, allergy tests, a CT scan on my heart and lungs, a lung function test and an Echocardiogram. I had the results last week which thankfully shows my heart is absolutely fine but i have mildly inflamed airways in my lungs and the doctor advised the most likely cause is Acid Reflux and this is causing the breathless feeling. The doctor has advised i take Lanzoprasole 30mg daily and a steroid asthma inhaler to reduce the inflammation for 3 months.

To be honest, i'm concerned that this isn't caused by acid only because most of the threads i have read on here are from people who only experience symptoms from food. As soon as i get out of bed and start walking around i start to get the pressure feeling in my chest and i've just had enough of it. Does anyone else have symptoms like me? I'm constantly thinking about what i could have wrong or if it is acid, what damage it is doing to me! I know it's only been a couple of days on the medication so shouldn't expect it to work straight away but can anyone tell me of any other self help medications that i could take to make it go away quicker? I'm really at my wits end and it's all i think about.

Thank you

    Hi Everyone,

Sadly I am dealing with this Acid Reflux as well. It hit me out of nowhere in February that started all with a bad cough. Things just increased & got worse. ENT diagnosed me with GERD. Looked into my throat saw it was red & inflamed. He put me on 20 mg Nexium & 150mg Zantac at bed. I wasn't getting any relief, heartburn then started. Throat pain was not going away. I then went to Gastro Dr. She then increases my dosage to now 40 mg Nexium & 300 mg Zantac. I do take a probiotic. I have been on these meds 1 month now & only 1 week on the increased dosage. Still having the throat pain, feeling something caught & heartburn. Should I be feeling relief by now?

I do not understand how all of a sudden I got this & can't eat foods I have eaten all my life. I want to get off these meds. Endoscopy is in a month.

I have been so miserable. I am on a bland diet. No caffeine, no chocolate, no alcohol. Basically eating same thing everyday.

I am constantly researching. I am ready to try Manuka Honey, Licorice Tea, anything for help! I want to also try the bone broth as well.

The throat pain is horrible! Has anyone tried the honey & licorice tea? I feel like I just was thrown onto these meds & no real info on this.

I certainly can see there are a lot of us out there suffering with this! 😞

      Hello,

How is your recovery going? I hope your'e doing better. I am hoping not to have GERD but the symptoms persisted for 6 days straight until I decided to have Pepcid. I was able to breath normal after that. Now I feel the acid going up and down. I am trying to treat it with OTC as I don't have insurance. Also, I am scared to swallow because sometimes I shock. Any suggestions will be great!

Hello, I just found this post and I can relate to the things you're saying. I want to know how did you feel after the medication. I was misdiagnosed in a hospital saying I had panic attacks but the lump on my throat and the shortness of breath never went away until I started researching and taking actions. Afteer having 5 anti-acids I felt slightly better and was able to breath normal. Do you know if this could be acid reflux? I also burp a lot too. Thanks!

    Well Tinkerbell,

I am now breathing almost normal after ingesting my regime, of Chlorophyl in a glass of water 5 times per day, alternating with Dider Vinegar, and 3 capsules of Potassium Citrate 3 times per day, it has taken 3 weeks but at last I can breathe again without gasping.

Starting this past November in started have tightness in my neck again and keep clearing my throat. Doctor switched my meds and it didn't help at all. Was on Omeprazole, then free samples of Dexilant...which did nothing. Now I'm on Pantoprazole, which seems to help but symptoms not completely gone. So tired of feeling queezy in the morning.
