It has been 9 months since my prostatectomy now what?

Posted , 10 users are following.

It has been 9 months since my prostatectomy and everything is fine except for sexual function. Cialis does not work at all and I have been able to get an erection with injections. I have had successful intercourse once and the rest of the times it was too painful to have sex. Please is there anyone out there with similar frustrations that could share with me what they have done to solve the problem.

Have you tried Levitra yet? I tried Cialis and did not like the side effects and it did nothing for me but one 10ml tablet of Levitra worked and two was very effective. I'm 75 and had H treatment and RT.

    All the best

So did I hear you correctly that you had a prostatectomy and this Levitra works for you?

      Dear Mark

As I said I had hormone treatment and radio therapy.

      Cheers Richard

I'm about the same time frame as you and have had no luck so far. I tried 20mg Cialis twice with no results, but on the advice of someone else on this forum, I asked my doctor about daily-dose Cialis and he said it does work better. I'll pick them up tomorrow and see how they work for me.

My understanding is that if you are in the UK and have had to be treated for prostate cancer then these tablets, injections, pumps are paid for on our NHS.

Wish I was over there, I'm in the states and nothing is free but your freedom, and that's being slowly taken away!!! Lol

Cialis is very pricey so I would imagine that daily dosage Cialis would be even more pricey. You wouldn't believe how expensive it gets

A months worth was $130.00 but I'm hoping my benefits will cover 80%.

I bought a fairly cheap pump to try and although I have not been able to get an erection, it HAS made a difference in size. I'm going to keep using it as often as I can

If the common treatments have failed to work, chances are you are falling into the percentage of men that have lost capacity for an erection by natural means. There are mechanical devices that can be surgically implanted- a competent urology-surgeon should be able to help. Another approach is to link up with a study program/researrch to restore sexual functionality. Whoever did your original surgery should have told you of the risks involved and that over 70% of men who have surgery lose sexual capacity, decreased length, etc. If your in the US, check out Johns Hopkins. Ive had radiation, with brachy plus external + ADT. I can still maintain an erection, and my libido is returning slowly. Ive got no urinary problems.  Best of luck to you.

I would suggest that staying open and honest about everything you are feeling and going through with your partner is the first thing to do. And trying everything possible, pump, pills, shots are all good things to try and talk to your Dr. I know that in my situation I feel like my partner does not want to talk to me about feeling inadequate in his mind but I feel very close to him even when we are not able to make love so I just recommend being open and honest. Good luck

Amy, which one did you and ur partner find the most helpful pill, pimp, or injection??

Injection, however i think if one starts using the pump as soon as they get the ok from their Dr it also is a big help.

Mark I'm dealing with the same issue... been trying the injection, don't like it because my penis does not get the hard that I would like. Cialis does nothing for me. Never tried the pump, have you?? Have tried viagra 100mg, and it helped a little but I'm not sure if it was the blue pill or he girl who I was with. Lol anyway, I need advice and help toooooooo
