It's getting me down now ...

I've been suffering from Sinus pain for quite some time now, mainly the bridge of my nose. I don't get any nasal mucus but I do get constant thick post nasal drip. Always feel lightheaded (not vertigo) and frontal headaches. I am also tired all the time. I have also had two very bad bouts of sinus tooth pain (extremely painful) which I had to take antibiotics for.
I saw an ENT specialist a few months ago, I was in and out of his room in minutes! As I could breathe through my nose, he just told me to do a saline douche for my post nasal drip. Snorting the solution up my nostrils from cupped hands. But I stopped doing this after a few weeks as I thought maybe the salt was more drying. I cannot blow my nose as there is nothing there. I need things to flow as it should, not down the back of my throat. Can anyone relate to any of this? If so what have you done that has helped?
I don't know if there is any connection but it all seemed to start when I had a total hysterectomy a few years ago.
I also don't seem to get any wax in my ears.

Ouch, I can relate to the sinus toothache. It's awful isn't it, I've been getting these every few months and my dentist has been giving me antibiotics for this. The last time if was really bad was free a minor operation I had for some reason in my neck!
I've had sinus issues for years but what really helped the most in terms of understanding was when they put a camera up my nose - they saw a nasal spur impacting on the left side which is where my teeth hurt.
I'm down for nasal surgery but people are mixed about the results.
What my doctor did describe recently after my teeth were particularly bad was amitriptyline, which is supposed to help with facial pain. I have got to say I'm taking codeine less - only once a day rather than three times. Paracetamol doesn't work for me or any other mild painkillers.
It is awful, I would say push your doctor to get the camera up the nose. Validation from the dentist is also a good idea that it's not the teeth.
Both my dentist and doctor sympathise - more so after the camera results because at least there was evidence for the pain!
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I had my first sinus toothache last year. The dentist x rayed my tooth and couldn't find anything wrong with it. I also saw an emergency dentist around the same time and he too couldn't find anything wrong. My dentist prescribed antibiotics and the pain finally subsided.
Now I am taking antibiotics again, my tooth had cracked. My dentist filled it, it's quite deep. As soon as the anesthetic wore off that's when the excruciating pain started again. A burning pain up my nostril and pain felt in several teeth.
But all the while I have this awful post nasal drip and pain on bridge of my nose/headaches.
I was thinking of asking my doctor if I could maybe have a CT scan.
I hope surgery works for you. Do you have a long wait?

Hi, yes I have been on the waiting list for over two years!
Do you think the crack contributed to your toothache? It's so related sinus and teeth sometimes you are not sure which one it is.
I had a root canal treatment once in an upper left molar and I could feel everything!!! It was torture! The dentist couldn't understand it. But after the camera up the nose it made sense to me, they were probably hitting a nerve because of the nasal spur pushing on one. The camera also saw how infected my sinus cavaties are because of the congestion in there. Such a nightmare.
The other thing I was going to say was Google pin point headache, it made sense to me after this.

Wow over 2 years, that's a long time. What part of the country are you from? Assuming your in the UK.
How awful that you could feel everything As you say, a nightmare!
I didn't have toothache before the filling. But you are right it is hard to know whether it is sinus related or not.

Sorry to hear that you have been suffering too :-( Besides antibiotics, what have tried? Also have you had a CT scan or a camera up your nose?

Hi all, I've been suffering with pulsating feeling behind my nose and constantly producing clear sticky mucus that goes down my throat as my nose is dry, I've had a camera up my nose an mri and ct scan, I'm having another ct scan on Wednesday, the ent doc said that there was nothing wrong but I bought the mri and ct scan reports from the hospital for £20 and I have an obstructed maxillary infundibulum but he never mentioned that with me and I have mucosal thickening which is a sign of sinusitis (inflammation). I have constant pressure behind my nose and top teeth and it makes me nauseous. I hope I'll get answers soon as it's affecting my life.

Hi Rhods, I know what you mean about it affecting your life. It's awful isn't it! That's awful too that the ENT specialist didn't mention those findings on your scans either. I wonder why!!!
Are you taking or doing anything for the pain and post nasal drip at the moment? Do you get lightheaded/dizzy at all?
Fingers crossed you will get some answers soon too. Keep us posted.

Wow, and they didn't mention it! Any idea what's obstructing it?

Hi, no I don't get dizziness but I did have a bout of vertigo 2months ago and the pressure is worse when I bend over. I'm not sure what is obstructing it but 11 years ago I was kicked by a horse and I had a ct scan then and they said there was a slight narrowing on one side of the nose but it wasn't a problem but I just thought that after the years passed by that something has built up over time, I have tried different sprays and I've used a steamer to see if anything would improve the symptoms but nothing did. Live in hope 😇

hi, don't know about the earwax or the hysterectomy Cath but the nasal dryness headaches and vertigo yes. I recognise all of that. I was diagnosed 12 years ago with an auto immune disorder and that was responsible for my problem. I can totally recommend that you try using a steroid nasal spray. Don't snigg it up your nose but spray over the inside of your nose where it is dry and sore. It should calm it down. Caused by inflammation this problem. ENT were useless to me. Almost everyone was. It wasn't until I got to see an immunologist I got an answer and a diagnosis. Inflammation doesn't show up on scans etc. I wish doctors would get to grips with this condition. So many people suffering without answers! Very frustrating. x

Hi Margaret, thank you for your reply. I used Flixonese together with Loratadine for a long time but they didn't help at all. I read that coating the inside of each nostril with organic coconut oil helps, so I am trying that. Along with steaming. But there's nothing in my nostrils at all. I can breathe through my nose.
It's just the pain between eyes/bridge of nose and the annoying post nasal drip. (No tooth pain at the moment either) x

Hi I didn't mean you to inhale the flixonase but just coat inside your nose with it. Or beconase as long as it has steroid in it. X
