Jobs after a hip replacement

Good morning everyone , I was just wondering where are you working after a total hip replacement ? Does the job includes heavy lifting ? Lots of bending etc ?

I'm looking for a job all the time and I'm still confused about what kind of job I should / shouldn't be doing .. after my story about last job when everyone told me I was doing way too physical job .

Thank you everyone

    hi angelika ,

It really depends - I have seen posts from members who went back to bartending (standing and lifting), being a cassier in a supermarket ( sitting, lifting, twisting), mail carrier, construction etc ...

Do you still have your job and if so, how do you feel about it - how about your supervisors - maybe you can have a less physically demanding routine ?

what would you really like to do, sweetheart - this might be a turning point in your life ...

when is your hip replacement surgery scheduled for?

    big warm hug

    renee

    Hi angelika,

I was a year gone 17th February this year.  I went back to work at 13 weeks. Did phased return for a couple of weeks.  I work in a supermarket, heavy lifting, climing steps all the time etc.  I managed but you have to listen to your body, don't overdo anything, you don't want to pop a hip.  I'm not allowed to squat so I get on my knees for the lower shelves but everything has worked out.  I did feel the hip pulling a few times so stopped doing those jobs until I was stronger. (lifting pallets) I didn't pull heavy pallets either at first and still don't now, if I feel it pulling. The main thing as I have said, is listento your body and you will be fine and don't rush, it can take a year or two for things to heal up properly.

Hi, I went back to work for a few meetings from about 7 weeks, and then I went back properly at 10 weeks. I only work 3 days a week, but it's quite physical at times, I teach 4 and 5 year olds. I've tried to take it gradually and not do things that have made my hip ache.(Like skipping around the hall, sitting on tiny chairs etc.) I wish you all the best with what you decide to do.

Thank you everyone for all your replies to this thread :-) i really appreciate that. I was working earlier in royal mail distribution centre and the job did involve heavy lifting, and pushing and pulling yorks weighting up to 250 kgs, and i was in pain after 10 hours shift. Thats why i had to resign, i was then looking for a job sińce end of december straight after resigning from previous job. Today i got a job offer from a supermarket doing the online shopping orders. I really hope that everything will go well and i can enjoy the job pain free :-) i had to admit that im tired and i feel often upset that im failing at doing some of the tasks.... On the other hand i know i cant complain because my life is much Better now after thr..

Hi angelica, I currently work as an online shopper too and am going for my operation next week. I am worried that I might have to be off work for a long time because it can be quite a physical job at times.

How long ago did you have your surgery? Can you let me know how you get on with the new job as it might give me some idea as to how long I might be off...Congrats on the job hope you enjoy it as mch as I do....Gonna miss my team though

Hi, how did your first day go ?

I have found it ok and my IPH (items per hour) is above average even with a bad hip lol

It was my last day today before the op...Thanks

Good morning , I'm sorry for late reply

I have done 2 shifts so far and luckily I didn't have any pain in my hip :-) of course my legs were sore because it was constant walking as you know , but the hip didn't bother me at all :-)

I really hope it will stay like that

      Good luck x
